TODAY’S LEDs OFFER MANY BENEFITS

LED LIGHTING 101The innovation of LEDs has made itself felt worldwide in a wide array of products, from professional film lighting to illuminating Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel to helping Harley-Davidson® riders navigate the night. LEDs are changing the way the world looks at things.

WHAT IS AN LED? A light-emitting diode, or LED, is a type of solid-state lighting that uses semiconductors and electroluminescence to create light. The LED as we know it has been around for more than 50 years. The recent development of white LEDs has brought them into wider use as a replacement for other white light sources.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON® LEDs When it comes to Harley-Davidson® lighting products, the LED’s higher light output allows riders to see farther and lets other vehicles see their bikes sooner. The LED’s longevity gives you many years of superior lighting quality compared to incandescent lighting. In addition, LEDs create a striking appearance with modern projector lenses or reflector optics. The bright white light of LED headlamps and the vivid, instant-on function of turn signals and tail lights create the look of a high-end luxury vehicle.

Instant response LEDs require no warm-up time

Greater durability LEDs have no breakable glass or filaments

Energy efficiency LEDs use at least 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs

Longevity and low maintenance LEDs last 35 to 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs

Directional light LEDs can direct light where it is needed far more precisely than incandescent or fluorescent light sources

Smaller size LEDs are compact

Lower environmental impact LEDs contain no mercury, which means they have a much smaller environmental impact than incandescent bulbs

LEDs ILLUMINATE YOUR VISUAL FIELDThere are two technical terms used to describe the advantages of LEDs:

1. Punch – how far down the road or the distance ahead of you that light illuminates.

2. Spread – how far from ditch to ditch or how much of the ditches are lit up.

LEDs have a tremendous amount of both punch and spread so they are brighter and whiter, and they shine farther and wider.

BENEFITS OF H-D® LED PRODUCTSThere are a lot of ways you can customize your motorcycle with lighting products offered through Harley-Davidson, whether it’s forward or rear lighting, turn signals, or accent lights to add style to your ride… but one of the most important and “stand-out” items is your headlight.

uAn LED headlight is the fastest and easiest way to attain superior, state-of-the-art visibility for nighttime rides

uBrighter and whiter in color, the LED headlight provides a superior light pattern over standard incandescent lamps, even under the harshest and most challenging conditions

uExtremely durable LED headlights are designed for long life on the road

uDaymaker™ Headlamps cast a wide light from curb to curb (spread), with the brightest point where riders need it most

uThe natural daylight lamp color of Daymaker™ Headlamps is easy on your eyes and is tuned to enhance and amplify the reflective character of highway signs and lane markers

Every H-D® LED headlight available has these advantages, but there are two distinctions in how Harley-Davidson executes LED headlights. One is called a “reflector” LED headlight and the other is a “projector” (also known as “solid optic”) LED headlight.

REFLECTOR:

uThe reflector style has one or two LEDs that point backward

uThe light hits the metal reflector and reflects the light back forward

uIt’s a very traditional looking headlight; in fact, it has a similar look and style to that of the halogen light

SPOTLIGHTPROJECTOR:

uThe projector LED headlight has numerous lenses in it; you can see four or five lenses in each design

uBehind each one of these lenses is an individual LED, so there are actually four or five LEDs in a projector headlight

uThe LEDs shine forward through the lenses, which focuses the light onto the road ahead

uIt’s a more modern looking headlamp

There are performance, price and style differences between the reflector and projector. The style difference is personal preference, but if riders are looking for the best of the best, that would be the projector-style headlight.

NEW 7" DAYMAKER™ PROJECTOR LED HEADLAMPuFeatures a single top-mount low-beam projector lens, a large bottom-mount high-beam projector lens and two NEW D-shaped fill-light lenses

uLED lamps include a NEW subtle, rear-lit Bar & Shield™ logo that glows when the ignition is in the “accessory” switch position

uImproved optics in two areas:

•High beam performance to help riders see farther down the road

•Additional comfort light above the horizon line to help riders see better going into a turn at night for increased confidence when cornering in the dark

uThe solid-state LEDs are designed for long life and low energy draw. Installation of the shock- and vibration-resistant lamp assembly is quick and easy with a plug-in connection to the factory headlamp wiring

uAvailable in Black or Chrome

uThe LED lamps are DOT and ECE compliant for all markets

SPOTLIGHTADVANTAGES OF LED REAR LIGHTING Similar to forward lighting, when you put LEDs in the back of the bike they provide a brighter light. You get more light output and you’re seen better by the vehicles behind you. LEDs are also extremely durable lights, which is especially beneficial on the back of a motorcycle where there is a lot of road input. Consequently, an LED won’t wear or burn out as a traditional incandescent bulb would.

LAYBACK LED TAIL LAMP uEngineered for high visibility and extreme durability with a laidback style upgrade compared to the Original Equipment tail lamp

uShaped to mirror the contour of the rear fender and features an array of fast-acting red lamps arranged in a grid pattern

uThe bright running lamp outshines traditional incandescent lamps and grabs attention when the brakes are activated

uAvailable in a Red or Smoked Lens, this complete tail lamp assembly includes all necessary components for a straight forward install

uNow available in two world configurations:

•NEW International (ECE-compliant) version

•Domestic version

NEW BULLET TURN SIGNAL INSERT KIT & LENSES uFeatures a single, bright, fast-acting amber or red LED lamp sealed in a waterproof housing

uThe multi-faceted reflector amplifies the light, and the focused lens spreads the light across the lamp’s surface

uDrop-in lamp assembly replaces the bulb and reflector in the stock bullet turn signal housing for a simple on-bike installation

uInstallation does not require a control box or load equalizer for correct operation

uAmber inserts are DOT/ECE compliant; red inserts are DOT compliant

uCustomize the look with a choice of outer lens covers: Amber, Smoked, Clear and Red (sold separately)
