From the President

To all the supporters and recipients of the Douglas County Car Care Program:

The Douglas County Car Care Program (DCCCP) is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprof-

it serving Douglas County Minnesota. The mission of DCCCP is “Promoting Inde-

pendence by Providing Car Care.”

From the beginning, DCCCP has donated 161 cars and repaired 276 client vehicles.

Koep’s Korner and staff evaluated 680 cars in the process. Because of the program,

437 families were able to get a job, get to work, make their medical appointments

and/or care for their families.

The program would not be possible without the financial support of the community,

the services provided by the local automotive community, the vehicle donors, fund-

raising supporters, the great work performed by the volunteers and the program coor-

dination by the staff.

This year we were blessed with a two-year grant from the Otto Bremer Trust, a grant

from the Douglas Machine Foundation, and an anonymous gift of $20,000. We be-

gan a three-year fundraising campaign, as part of the leadership-succession planning

for DCCCP; we received pledges and contributions of $28,665 in the first year. Also

thanks for the many new and sustaining contributions in any amount.

Thanks to Koep’s Korner for accepting the donated vehicles, evaluating and repair-

ing them, and providing emergency repairs or evaluations when needed. Thanks also

to Alexandria Motors, Diamond Buick GMC, and Juettner Motors for evaluating

vehicles for our Car Care Saturdays, and then providing shop and technical support

for our volunteers. Thanks also to the many shops and services that provided sup-

port that are identified in this report.

Thank you to the sixteen restaurants that provided excellent food for the Second An-

nual Taste of Douglas County. Approximately 500 supporters enjoyed the outstand-

ing entrees that were prepared and served.

Special thanks to the Alexandria Area High School DECA, CAPS students who de-veloped a fundraising walk-a-thon titled “We’ll walk so they can drive.” This was the first of what may become another annual event.

Finally, thanks to fellow Board Members and staff for your support in making this

program possible… so we can move people from welfare to work, one car at a time.

Motors , Diamond Buick and Juettner

Motors alternately host Car Care Saturdays.

The host shop provides staff to evaluate

cars for repairs, orders the parts (provided

by NAPA Central MN at their cost),

provide shop space and specialty tools, and

assist the Saturday volunteers in the car

repair.

Emergency repairs are completed on an

as-needed basis, and funding is available

for the additional cost of labor for the

repairs.

Our Partners Partners make the Car Care Program work. Koep’s Korner provides the drop off site for donated vehicles

and does the evaluations to determine if the car is viable for donation, and then normally completes those

repairs. All three franchised dealers, Juettner Motors, Alexandria Motors and Diamond Buick, host the Car

Care Saturdays, providing the evaluations of the cars to be repaired, the technical support , volunteers and

space for our volunteers to do the repairs. Alex/Viking Towing as well as Shutters, provide free towing

services. NAPA Central MN provides parts at their cost and Auto Value provides parts at a reduced price.

Woody’s Car Wash provides $100 a month to be used for the ten gallons we put in each donated car or a car

wash when needed. Mike’s In & Out provides a free oil change and inspection for each donated car. Free

repairs are also provided by Precision Auto, Shutters, Tiremaxx, Interstate Auto Glass and others when

asked.

We’ll Walk So They Can Drive A DECA CAPS fundraiser

Spencer Hockert, Keaton Kvale and McKayla Petrie, senior members of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and students at Alexandria Area High School, are involved in the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS). As a project, the students selected to work with the Douglas County Car Care Program and develop a fundraising activity

The students decided to create a “We’ll Walk So They Can Drive” Walk-a-Thon. The students started by getting sponsors to pay for the silk screened t-shirts to be worn when they went out to seek pledges for the walkers; and to be worn by those who pledged and walked at the event. The t-shirt sponsors included Pehrson Construc-tion, Consulting Solutions, Prospero Institute, Carl Kvale with Edina Realty, and Mosquito Joe.

The students raised $3,165 and their hope is that this will become an annual event for students, serving the community.

Leadership Transition Funding Campaign 2016

The Douglas County Car Care Program (DCCCP) is now starting its fifth year. As a result, the foun-

dations that helped get the program started are now expecting the community to play a bigger role in

maintaining the program.

As the founder and current executive director plans to retire in two years, it is imperative that DCCCP

develop a local financial support plan. To make that work, the Board is asking the community for

help.

To establish a funding plan that includes support for the next three years so the program can continue,

The Board is asking for a three year commitment, so we can continue to move people from welfare to

work, one car at a time.
