Welcome to the 2015 Student Water Conference!

Welcome to Stillwater and the 4th Annual Student Water Confer-

ence. It is amazing to think that this is already the fourth time we

have hosted this event, and it continues to get better and better!

Please use this opportunity to learn about the water research of

your future colleagues from across the United States. I challenge

you to learn at least three new things related to water in the next

two days! Also, please take this opportunity to learn more about

Oklahoma State University and our tremendous graduate programs

in water. Tweet about what you are learning using #SWC15.

The conference and travel assistantships are provided through funds

from the Orville L. and Helen L. Buchanan Family Trust through the

Buchanan Chair in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering and

through a USDA-NIFA National Integrated Water Quality Project

(NIWQP). We appreciate their generous support, as none of this

would be possible without their funding!

Thank you for your participation in the conference. And if you are

visiting, welcome to Stillwater, home of the OSU Cowboys!

Welcome Dr. Thomas Coon, Vice-President, Dean, and

Director of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, joined Oklahoma State University in 2014 after serving as the Director of Extension and professor in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State Uni-versity. He has a M.S. and Ph.D. from Universi-ty of California-Davis.

Buchanan Keynote Lecturer J.D. Strong, Executive Director of the Oklaho-

ma Water Resources Board, and previously Oklahoma's Secretary of the Environment, re-ceived a B.S. from Oklahoma State University and started working with OWRB as an environ-mental specialist.

Water Career Perceptions Lecturer Dr. Maria Chu, Assistant Professor, Universi-

ty of Illinois, and previously a Ph.D. student at Oklahoma State University, has worked in both consulting with Waterborne Environmental, Inc., and also held two Post-Doctorate positions at the University of Florida and St. Louis Univer-sity.

In 2008, Oklahoma State University received a gift from the Bu-chanan Family Trust in Los Gatos, CA, to establish the Orville L. and Helen L. Buchanan Chair in Biosystems and Agricultural Engi-neering. The Trust was established by Orville (Lee) Buchanan, a 1947 OSU agronomy graduate, originally from Rush Springs, Ok-lahoma. They gave generously to OSU, providing funds for the Orville and Helen Buchanan Endowed Scholarship Fund and ulti-mately the Orville L. and Helen L. Buchanan Chair in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering.
