Let’s go to the beach!!
Summer has come!! Ibaraki Prefecture faces the Pacific ocean, so you can go sea-bathing light-heartedly. This time, we will introduce some points that you should be careful when you go for sea-bathing and some beaches nearby Mito city. !!Caution!! ① You should warm-up before entering the water. In the water, we use the muscle which we usually don’t, so you need to get your body used to the water. ② Do not enter the prohibited area. There is a place where is deep and the flow of the wave is fast. ③ The water of the sea is colder than body temperature, so your body gets cold when you are in the water for long time. Take an enough rest and keep your body warm. Beaches ・阿

Sumo is Japanese traditional wrestling. Two sumo wrestlers (力士r i k i s h i
) fight inside of the circular ring called “土俵
d o h y o
” until the one is pushed out of the ring or any part of the one’s body other than sole of the feet touches the ground. The professional Sumo tournaments called “本場所
Hon-basho
” are held 6 times in a year and each tournament runs 15 days. The ranking of wrestlers(“番付
Banzuke
”) is decided according to their performance in most recent 本場所
Hon-basho
. The highest division of 番付
Banzuke
consisting of 42 wrestlers is called “幕内Maku-uchi
”. The wrestlers who have done a good performance are promoted to “三役
San-yaku
(関脇Sekiwake
&小結Komusubi
)”. The 関脇
Sekiwake
wrestlers who win the tournament or take the second place is promoted to “大関
O z e k i
”. And the 大関O z e k i
who wins the tournament twice in succession is promoted to “横綱
Yokozuna
”. 横綱Yokozuna
is a very special title. Any ranks other than 横綱Yokozuna
may be demoted to lower ranks if they lose much in the tournaments, but 横綱
Yokozuna
is expected to retire if he doesn’t achieve good results. Today, there are many professional sumo wrestlers from foreign countries. 3 横綱
Yokozuna
and 1 大関O z e k i
are from Mongol, and there are European and African wrestlers in 幕内
Maku-uchi
as well. 本場所
H o n - b a s h o
will be held in Tokyo in January, May and September and are good chances to watch the bouts.
