Study Strategies for Japanese• What strategies or techniques have helped

you most when studying a foreign language?

• What strategy, if any, do you use when studying a foreign language that you might not when studying another subject??

Page 23: Welcome to Japanese Lab!. Lab Instructor Instructor:Hamed Nouri (Sensei, Nuri-sensei)

Study Strategies for JapaneseStudy everyday!

Even just 10 minutes can help you retain the language.Don’t cram too much in at once

Bursts of 15-30 minutes is better than one 3 hour study sessionUse the language as much as possible

Participate in class, come to lab, practice with others, and make Japanese friends!Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

Mistakes can become valuable tools for learning a language.Talk to yourself ( seriously)

When you’re studying, say things out loud.Review, review, review

Language is kind of like math. It builds on itself. Don’t forget previous material!!Don’t focus on one thing too much

Language includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Practice ALL of these.
