Transcript of 2015 Newsletter Week 5 Term 4(2)
Kia ora,
It was lovely to see so many parents yesterday at
our school athletics day. I thought it was a great day
and was really proud of all our students for giving it
their best. Thanks to all the parents who helped out
on events and with cooking the kai.
The Board and I had hoped to be able to announce
certain decisions about organisation for 2016
yesterday, but at this stage we are just awaiting
certain decisions and situations to be clarified. Due
to the numbers of children at different age groups
we may see a change in classroom structure to what
we currently have. It is our intention to put the
resources we have to the best use, taking into
account the feedback we have received from you,
the community.
Speaking of the community survey, thank you for
your responses. Simon Main (on behalf of the
Board) has written a letter to you all thanking you
for your feedback. As Principal, I also thank you
and it is clear there were some trends in the
comments. As such, the staff and I will review and
improve the way we report to parents next year.
Personally I will work on my communication, in
particular trying to give people as much notification
of events etc.
As far as events go, next week is our school ‘Bike
Week.’ In talking with many parents it became
apparent that for some children they have limited
places and opportunities to ride their bikes. Next
week we intend to run games and activities in break
and lunchtimes for students on their bikes. Friday
will see us travel to the fantastic bike park in
Cambridge. Long term I would love to build up a
collection of school bikes (a little like we have
started to build a collection of school rollerblades).
These would be a great resources to have on site to
help encourage students to be fit and active.
Have a great weekend
Terry

Next week is Bike Week. If parents bring their children’s bikes to
school we can safely store them for the week. Children need a
helmet. The goal of the week is to build confidence for some riders,
knowledge of how to look after your bike, and of course to have
fun.
Each lunchtime we will have a different focus.
Monday—bike maintenance and safety
Tuesday—bike control at slow speed—slow race /slalom etc
Wednesday—tricks, bike games etc
Thursday—house bike relay competition
Friday—whole school trip to Cambridge to the Gallagher Bike
Skills park
*we tried to get the Sport Waikato bike expert in for this week, but
he was unavailable. They will be here at school the following Fri-
day, with their challenge obstacles for kids.
Friday’s trip—We will assemble at school before 9 in time for a 9
O'clock departure to Cambridge. The plan is to spend some time at
the bike park, before the more confident students will ride the Te
Awa bike trail to Cambridge (3.2km). We will lunch in Cambridge
in the park (meeting the parents with less confident riders there and
then proceed to the Cambridge pools for a swim.
Entry to the pool is $2.50 per child and $4 for swimming adults.
Parents are welcome to bring their own bikes (in fact it would be
helpful to have 3-4 on bikes with me to ride through to Cambridge).
Karl Aitchison is lending me his big trailer and I have another 5foot
trailer with a cage if someone want to tow that. That should be
enough to transport the bikes.
HELP-if you have any old bikes (going or not) that you no longer
want, please donate them to the school. Over the next couple of
years I would like to build up a collection of bikes for the school

Athletics was a successful day. It
was not raining or sunny, so it was
just right. Not much people got
hurt - only a couple so that was
good. We had high jump, long
jump, shot put, discus and some
running races.
Eva gets used to being at school.
She starts next year
Noah gives the discus a big heave
Holly trying hard at the long jump.
Summer giving it her best at the
high jump.
Ivy-jean ready for a big throw
Torehape working on their ‘discus’ throws
with the quoits
Owen did some amazing jumping on the day
Running races were hotly contested
Official results will be in next weeks
newsletter.
