Law Offices of James O. Gaston
The Law Offices of James O. Gaston is a boutique law firm that specializes in personal injury, medical malpractice, motor vehicle crashes, nursing home abuse, wrongful death, and premise liability. A significant number of cases are referred by both attorneys and satisfied clients. Consequently, the firm is highly selective in its representation and focuses on the neediest individuals.
Attorney Gaston has amassed a formidable trial record over the past thirty-three years with some juries awarding even larger sums than requested at the trial. Gaston has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Advocacy since 1990. He sits on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates of the Connecticut Bar Association, and Chaired the Litigation Selection of the CBA. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the CT Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a Life Fellow for the James W. Cooper Fellows Program of the CT Bar Foundation and has written and lectured extensively on trial practices. In addition, he sits on the Board of Governors for the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. “Named SuperLawyer in Connecticut Magazine 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.”

Thank You to the Brave Volunteersof Hook & Ladder!

2 0 1 5Thank you for your interest in and support of the 2015 Newtown Hook and Ladder Firehouse Ride.
Newtown Hook and Ladder Co. #1 is proudly made up of 46 dedicated men and women from our community. Our volunteers respond to a variety of emergency calls including structure fires, brush fires, smoke investigations, commercial and residential fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents and vehicle extractions. We average approximately 600-700 calls per year. Loyalty and compassion to volunteering as first responders makes Hook and Ladder firemen and women widely recognized throughout our district.
Newtown Hook and Ladder is making history as we have finally purchased and broken ground on a new firehouse site. The future home of the fire station will be at 12 Church Hill Road. We thank all the many individuals, companies and supporters who have assisted us in attaining the new land, finalizing the construction plans, and beginning the site work.
The annual Firehouse Ride has become one of our most successful fundraisers. This year’s event is essential to our future financial needs and we are working hard to ensure an amazing turnout. The ride takes place on 9/27 and begins and ends at 71 South Main Street in Newtown, CT. Registration opens at 9:00 AM. The riders depart at 11:00 AM, after a blessing of the bikes. The ride is an escorted 50 mile ride with blocked intersections. Riders return to a pig roast/BBQ with live music, raffle prizes, and an opportunity to meet and greet the members of Newtown Hook and Ladder Company. Also, this year we will dedicate the ride in memory of life member Richard M. Liska, Sr. 100% of all money raised at the Firehouse Ride contributes to the construction of the new firehouse.
We are continually raising funds to offset our final mortgage at the end of construction. We will be kicking off a Mutual Aid fundraising campaign to assist the upfit of the

2 0 1 5historyOuR BeGiNNiNGThe oldest fire company in Newtown had its beginning in 1803, when the town refused to grant a request for $100 for a fire engine. Elijah Nichols was subsequently appointed as “chimney viewer” or fire warden, an office that was provided for at the annual town meeting and for which no pay was given. Since the town would not appropriate the money for an engine, each member of the company was duty bound to provide buckets and ladders of their own. The company held many benefits to raise money and in 1883 a sum of $600 was appropriated for the purchase of a hand-drawn Hook & Ladder truck from the Holloway Company of Baltimore, In September of that year, a State Charter was granted to the “Newtown Hook & Ladder Company”, and the company has been in service ever since.

THe FiRemAN’S PRAYeRWhen I am called to duty, God
Wherever flames may rageGive me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little childBefore it is too late
Or save an older person fromThe horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert andHear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficientlyTo put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling andTo give the best in me
To guard my every neighborAnd protect their property.
And if according to your willI have to lose my life
Please bless with your protecting handMy children and my wife.
