Trail Life USA is about building relationships. • Relationships between Trailmen as they develop and strengthen friendships while working

together to accomplish their goals;

• Relationships between Christian male mentors and Trailmen as the men model what it means to walk worthy as godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens;

• Relationships within the family, growing together in faith as they enjoy, together, all that membership in Trail Life USA has to offer; and most important,

• The relationship between a young man and Jesus Christ as the Trailman steps out in faith, maturing every year.

The program and advancements of Trail Life USA exist to support these relationships. With four distinct levels, our program is designed to support positive male relationships, spiritual growth, and servant service through a fun outdoor-based program in an age-appropriate way.

Starting with the Woodlands Trail for grades K-5, boys gain knowledge about outdoor skills, citizenship, character, friendship, and faith through fun activities and skill instruction with caring Christian adults leading the way.

Navigators, grades 6-8, gain understanding of their values and beliefs under the guidance of godly male role models through being responsible in outdoor adventures and in their home and school life. They explore areas of interest and earn Trail Badges for advancement.

Boys in grades 9-12, in our Adventurer level, mature in wisdom and faith by progressing through more difficult challenges and leadership activities with Christian men walking alongside them. They plan outdoor events, large projects, and hold leadership positions in the Troop.

Lastly, Guidon (still in development for ages 18-25) provides positive peer support in the life phase as they walk with considerable challenges to their faith.

It is our hope that the program be used as a tool for fostering growth and relationships in the young men of Trail Life USA for years to come. And while the program may change and evolve as we move forward, our mission will not. We will always strive to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.

We hope you find this catalog helpful in providing insight into the various elements and their use.

Woodlands TrailThe Woodlands Trail is for boys in Kindergarten through 5th grade and is divided into three Patrol Levels: Fox (K-1st grade), Hawk (2-3rd grade), and Mountain Lion (4-5th grade). The boys earn “leaves” for participating in activities with their patrol. There are seven designated Branches (areas of study) in which boys earn leaves: Heritage, Hobbies, Life Skills, Outdoor Activities, Pioneering Skills, Science and Technology, and Values. The same seven Branches are earned within all three age groups (Fox, Hawk, and Mountain Lion). Branch completion is tracked on Leaf Tracking Cards. Awards are placed on the official Troop Uniform. The ordering of most awards is tied to the online Advancement program.

Item #2010 – Lanyard (Pack of 10)The Trail Life USA Lanyard/Sleeve is an actual part of the uniform and should be worn at all Troop gatherings when it is safe to wear. It provides a level of safety (as it serves to identify Registered Adults and Leaders) and serves in advancement tracking. This set of 10 Official Member Lanyard/Sleeve combos is used for all levels of Trailmen, from Woodlands Trail to all Registered Adults and leaders. It carries Woodlands Trail Leaf Cards and other awards, as well as Navigator and Adventurer ID and certification cards for swimming, Warrior Games, etc. For members over 18, it carries their ID cards, which include their member active dates and Child Safety Youth Protection Training certifications and more. It is essential for your Troop in providing a safe environment for Troop meetings.
