Fairview Community Garden Meeting Minutes

General Updates

-

The FCA has approved the community garden as a sub-committee

3. Updates of each sub-group/committee tasks

Admin

-

Katie has started writing the terms of reference and group description for the application. There are

a few things we need to decide as a group such as structure of the group (who is a member, who is

responsible for making decisions) and a protocol for decision making.

Action: Katie will come up with a list of options for each for next meeting.

Communication and Outreach

-

We need a central storage station for working documentsAction: Jano can set this up as part of

the community garden website

-

We should look into setting up a page on the FCA website that is general information and links to the

independent website.

Action: Jano will set up and manage the site but likely doesnt have time to create the copy.

Action: Janocreating education plan based on and to influence design.-

Action: Katiecheck with CalHort on example education plan.

Action: Stacey and Jano to contact other gardens for template.

Action: Vanessato write article for Fairview in Focus.

Location and Design

Adrian has created a matrix of location options with rating for essential and nice-to-have criteria.

o Top three are: Flavelle, School site and South end of Flint.

o Flavelle is well developed for other uses so might be out

o School site and Flint are then the top two

o Is there opportunity to piggyback construction of playground with garden if Flint?

o

Flint is more exposed which might raise costs to build a wind break.

o

Action: Adrian will check on water and ownership for Flint and School. If both plausible then

we will put forward to the board and city.

Action: Katiewill contact Acadia garden to see if they can attend next meeting re: advice on

application, location and design.

Action: Vanessa to pass by Flint and School site past the board

Action: Allbased on info on school site have a site selected by next meeting

Next meeting have initial brainstorming session for design

Fundraising and Finance

Staceyneed a concept design for grants.

Lottery money from FCA

Started line items for budget.

No other needs until we have concept design.

Future meeting dates (change March?)

As several decisions will be made next month, it was decided to change the date of the next meeting

from Feb 5th

to Feb 4th

to accommodate Vanessas work schedule. Vanessa to include date change inFairview in Focus.
