Fun FactDid You Know?

Okanagan Lake is approximately 110 km long, running north to south through the Okanagan

Valley. Kelowna is located on the eastern shore, boasting over 30 beautiful beaches –

even our main street ends at the lake! To find detailed information to help you

pick your beach, go to page 28.

The W.R. Bennett Bridge opened in May 2008, replacing

the original Okanagan Lake Bridge, built in 1958. It is the only vehicular crossing over Okanagan Lake and the only

floating bridge in Canada.

In the heart of BC's Okanagan Valley, across the

lake from Kelowna, is Westbank First Nation.

In 2003, the Okanagan peoples of Westbank

realized their dream of becoming a true nation

with the signing of a self-government agree-

ment. Now, everywhere, the signs reflect the

reality that Westbank is a First Nation's govern-

ment overseeing its own affairs.

Visit Westbank First Nation and you will find

modern day shopping in a big box retail en-

vironment along with neighbourhoods of all

sizes which are home to 9,000 aboriginal and

non-aboriginal residents. Subtle cultural re-

minders can be seen all around the bustling

communities with Okanagan language on many

local street signs, and First Nation art and sym-

bols incorporated into signage and buildings

throughout the area.Ñ

The Kelowna area boasts more than 17 courses that range from easy-going to ego-shattering. Discover more at www.golfkelowna.com

Ò Averaging over 2,000 hours of sun every year, Kelowna offers one of the longest, driest golf seasons in Canada. Golf from early spring well into the gorgeous fall season!

Ò Vineyards, orchards, semi-desert terrain, rolling hills, and expansive lakes make the golf courses throughout Kelowna some of the most picturesque in the country.

Ò Many clubhouses also offer après golf dining experiences that range from casual to gourmet.

Ò Notable course designer names include Jack Nicklaus, Les Furber, Fred Couples, Graham Cooke, Greg Norman, and Thomas McBroom.

Ò Most golf courses are in close proximity to one another – easy to play two courses a day.

Okanagan Lake: hot summer days + refreshing water = endless fun.

Ò Okanagan Lake is 110 km long and curves its way through the Okanagan Valley from north to south.

Ò The graceful W.R. Bennett Bridge connects downtown Kelowna to the west side of the lake and is Canada's only floating bridge.

Ò Kelowna and area has more than 30 beaches – many with playgrounds, picnic areas, concessions, and restroom facilities. See page 28 to pick your fun spot.

Ò Enjoy the lake from a stand up paddleboard (SUP), houseboat, ski boat, charter, sailboat, jet ski, flyboard, pedal boat, kayak, or canoe. See page 27 for possibiities.

Ò The lake is welcoming and refreshing, but it also has its mysteries – tombs and hidden coves. Hike the Paul's Tomb trail near Knox Mountain and snorkel in the crystal clear water of the quiet, secluded bays.

Vacation rentalsPhoto Credit: Shawn Talbot

accommodationsWith 4500+ rooms available, Kelowna fulfills every vacation need.

Ò No matter how opulent our lakeside resorts, kids are always welcome – some even offer fun day camps.

Ò For an intimate getaway, try one of the many bed and breakfasts in the area including those offering downtown convenience, lakefront splendour, and countryside serenity.

Ò Looking for affordable, casual accommodation – choose from one of Kelowna's three hostels.

Ò For something rustic, rent a cabin just beyond the city where you can hike, fish, or do nothing at all but get back to nature.

Ò Pitch your tent or pull your RV/trailer into one of our campgrounds or provincial parks, but don't forget to book ahead as they fill up quickly.
