What We Should All Know About PovertyEvery Monday in June 6:30-8:00 p.m. Larry Coulter teachingAs a church, we are heavily invested in ministry to the poor. It is the work to which Christ has called us. Starting tomorrow, the What Every Church Member Should Know About Poverty class will begin to stretch our thinking as we wrestle with the tough questions of “helping”. We will use the workbook of the same name, by Bill Ehlig and Ruby Payne, to guide our discussion. If you are trying to live out Christ’s call to be a light to the world this class will poke the hard questions and provide answers. I hope you will join us in the William Cannon library.

Our Next Refugee Family is On the WayWe will be sponsoring a new refugee family of seven, arriving in Austin from Egypt on June 10th. (Their country of origin is yet unknown but is likely Syria or Sudan.) All of the children in the family are boys, and we are told that the family speaks some English. We are in the midst of collecting furniture and household goods, and we still need the following:

• Dining room table and chairs• Dressers • End tables • Twin beds • Twin sheet sets• Maps• Desk items such as calendars• Gift cards to Wal-Mart or HEB

We will request clothing as soon as we know the children’s ages, but if you have boys and are

cleaning out closets and drawers right now, please check with us before you take that load to Goodwill! In addition to collecting items, we need folks to

• Help haul items to the apartment • Set-up the apartment,• Buy groceries, (you will be reimbursed)• Buy household goods, toiletries, etc.

(you will be reimbursed)• Meet them at the airport and drive to

the apartment that night…will need two or three parties to assist with this

The next day and the next couple of weeks will present a variety of transportation needs for appointments and visits to get established. On-going needs will be mentoring, driving

occasionally, etc.Contact Cathy Beard. 512-589-5634, [email protected].
