SGA would like to thank all students and

News You Can Use/Cougar Report Maryland Public Schools in First Place for the 5th Year in a Row!!!

By Mr. Joseph

In an article titled “Quality Counts 2013 Edu-cation Rankings Come In: Maryland First, South Dakota Last,” it declared that Maryland outranked all others for the fifth year in a row by scoring a B-plus. According to the article, they were able to arrive at this ranking by tak-ing into account almost every possible meas-urement in American education, from school finance to environment to grades to equity. They also took a look at "Chance for Success," an index that takes into account the connec-tions between school and positive life out-comes, looking at toddlers, kids, and adults. The index found that states that performed well did so because there were opportunities for a solid foundation for learning during the early years. However, the article also went on to say that “measures that capture participa-tion and performance in formal schooling re-main the driving force behind state rankings.”

“Words are Power” by the One who Wanders but is Never Lost!!!

Hello! Many people may know who I am and lots of you may not. However, most of you would know me without my alias. The topic, I would like to discuss is words. Some of you may be wondering, how such a little topic can create an article? I am not talking about words so much as a word itself, but about the power they have over people. Most of you may be thinking I am crazy, but the thing is we are all crazy in our own way at times.

“Words are Power” continued

A way words can be used to garner response from your peers is to give five people a com-pliment and see if you get a reaction whether it be good or bad. Try to see, try to know, and try to understand the power of words!

The SGA sponsored Winter Talent Showcase & Dance was a blast! Students in attendance had a great time and the live entertainment provided by Lee students was excellent. The entertainers sang, rapped, and danced to the latest tunes. Mr. Turner hosted the festivities and as usual Mr. J was on the wheels. Special thanks go out to the Lee staff that chaperoned and AVID for provid-ing the concession stand at this event.

CyberSafety

The Internet is a fabulous resource for education, enter-tainment, and more. But the Internet is not regulated or controlled by any one entity. So parents and schools have a responsibility to educate children about its safe and ap-propriate use.

It is imperative that parents and students report unsafe incidents to law enforcement so that offenders can be ap-prehended and prosecuted.
