Securing your future… Ready, Set, Change! 4
A word from our President
Welcome to the 10th Annual Best of the West Relocation Summit! It is hard to believe that the Arizona Relocation Alliance (ARA) began as a small group just a decade ago. We are thrilled to see you all here and grateful that you continue to support the organization! Whether you are a member, a regular attendee, or joining us for the first time today… you are the reason the ARA exists. Our goal as an organization is to ‘Provide you with an inside track to global mobility!’ We are committed to working for you and with you ~ together we can make the ARA great!
Over the past few years there have been ups and downs, in fact we have moved sideways, across, and back again. As the companies that we once knew disappeared before our eyes, we were shocked. As the faces around us changed, we wondered who was next. And as the responsibilities piled on, we worked tirelessly to get things done. The worst is over and the result is a completely new business climate.
This year’s relocation summit, Securing your future….Ready, Set, Change, is geared towards sharing insight so that we can plan ahead and secure our future. Today’s speakers are here to aide you with ideas and tools to help you stay ahead of the game. We are delighted to have Peggy Smith from the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council back as our keynote speaker to give us her unique perspective on The State of Greater Phoenix Economic Outlook. Peggy is a tremendous asset to WERC® and we are honored that she is such a big part of today’s event. Our all-star lineup also includes Susan Schneider; fresh off her Presidency at WERC®, here to help us stretch beyond ourselves to overcome challenges with her practical and effective advice. We are also pleased to bring back our intuitive security panel. The panelists from The World Protection Group, Intel, and Freeport McMoRan spoke at our general meeting last September and left us all wanting more. Their knowledge, awareness, and wit had us all at the edge of our seats for the entire session and encore.
We would like to take just a moment to thank our sponsors who have made today’s event possible. Their support of the relocation summit and generosity over the years has helped make the ARA what it is today. They continuously rally around us and we are honored that many of them are here with us today. Please take a moment to thank them as you see them at today’s event. I would also like to thank our board members. We are a volunteer organization and what you see today wouldn’t be possible without several late nights, missed dinners, and tireless emails and phone calls. I am privileged to work side by side with some of the best relocation minds in our industry and honored to be their President. As our industry changes, so do the topics, issues, and goals of our organization and we are always looking for good people. We dare you to join us, help us improve, and let us know how we can support you in your personal and professional development.
As Mr. Joe Demier once said, “Every day is a bonus”, so we thank you for spending your “bonus” time with us! We hope this conference challenges your mind, broadens your horizons, and leaves you coming back for more! Sincerely,
Mickey Matteson Mickey Matteson, CRP | President, Arizona Relocation Alliance Director of Business Development | Emigra Ogletree Worldwide

Susan Schneider, SCRP, GMS President – Plus Relocation
Ms. Schneider is the President of Plus Relocation Services, Inc., a mobility management company that provides relocation and assignment management services to clients, including Fortune 100 and 500 companies. She has been with PLUS for over 20-years, holding a variety of positions in the company from front line service delivery, to VP of Sales and Account Management, to her current role as President, which she has held since 2006. In her term as President, PLUS has thrived through even the most challenging economic conditions, notwithstanding the real estate market.
Over the past three years the company has experienced record growth, employing over 130 people in the United States with a majority located in their corporate headquarters in Minneapolis. With a focus on becoming a global organization, PLUS opened their first non-US office in London in 2011 and will open an office in Hong Kong in January of 2013.
Schneider currently serves as Chairman of the Worldwide ERC® Board of Directors, where she has held several officer positions, including Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. She has also served as a speaker and an author for the organization. Worldwide ERC® has 10,000 members worldwide and is focused on assisting corporations who support a mobile workforce.
A philanthropist at heart, Schneider is driven to give back to the community. In 2011, she identified a unique opportunity to leverage her involvement in Worldwide ERC® to help those in need. With an upcoming industry conference being held in Las Vegas, home to one of the highest rates of female trafficking, Schneider took a risk and used her client entertainment budget to purchase products for hygiene kits for homeless youth. She reached out to suppliers, competitors, clients and prospects, not for money, but for their time and their helping hands. In less than two hours they completed 2,011 hygiene kits, which were delivered directly to some of the worst neighborhoods in the city. The event was such a success that it is now part of each conference PLUS attends, in fact her team completed 10,000 kits for homeless youth in Washington D.C. this fall.
With a passion for writing, Schneider authors a weekly blog, “Wednesdays with Susan,” that tackles personal and professional topics. These thought provoking topics, combined with her raw, comical approach have led to a speaking series and a book under the organization she founded, STICK IT! to Leadership. Her blog can be found at:
Schneider holds a BA degree in Communication and Sociology from Luther College. She and her husband Mark reside in Plymouth, MN with their two children, Jack and Ellen.
