The resort, which is surrounded by the spectacular beauty of magnificent red rock formations, offered guests the opportunity to experience “The Most Beautiful Place in America.” Wednesday morning brought us the annual Best Ball Golf Tournament with six teams competing amongst the splendid beauty of the championship golf course and red rocks! Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place, along with golf “goodie bags,” were provided by our Golf Sponsor, Priority Posting & Publishing. 1st place honors went to the team of Steve Steeps, Jarrod Williams, Jason Sherman & Kevin Cameron! 2nd place by 1 shot went to the team of Dave Schubel, Jeremy Harmon, Yolanda Gardner & Kari Sheehan; and coming in 3rd place was the team of Ginger Lamb, Dave Lamb, Laura Kaminski & Rosa Kelley. Longest Drive for Men/Women was won by Steve Steeps & Sally Chambliss; and Closest to the Pin went to Jeremy Harmon & Brenda Tucson. Congratulations to all of the “winners” and everyone else who participated in our golf tournament! Our Welcome Reception was held Wednesday evening. The bar was hosted by MK Consultants, Inc. with the hors d’oeuvres hosted by the ATA. Many folks had their “Aura” read and had pictures taken in the ATA Photo Booth! Our “thanks” to the Law Offices of David L. Knapper and The Daily Territorial for sponsoring these two fun events! Rhonda Mello created a wonderful photo collage of our 25-year history that brought back many memories of current and prior members and attendees! Our Education Committee, consisting of Rick Chambliss and Kim Lepore, as our Education Chair, put together an excellent line-up of speakers with topics ranging from Mortgage Fraud, Deficiency & Protecting Tenants Act and a review of the Greater Phoenix Market, and the always popular, thought-provoking debate on “What’s New, and What’s News in Trustee Sales.” Senator Michele Reagan braved a semi- “hostile” crowd to discuss the failed SB1451. We all enjoyed a rousing game of “Jeopardy” dealing with “Title Insurance Pitfalls.” All of the speakers were excellent, and we appreciate their volunteering of time and knowledge to share with our attendees. Many thanks to Kim and Rick for their hard work bringing us timely and interesting topics! And, many thanks to Engelman Berger, PC for sponsoring our Speaker Awards. Dinner, Golf Awards and Silent Auction followed the first day’s education sessions. Sports Dreams USA conducted our silent auction again this year and offered many sports & movie memorabilia. The Silent Auction began during the cocktail hour, which was hosted by Auction.com. Golf Awards and door prizes were awarded during dinner, along with a special 25th Anniversary Pilsner to all guests. There was a lucky winner from each table that took home a beautifully crafted centerpiece designed by Rhonda Mello. Door prizes were sponsored by Security Title Agency, which included an iPad, a Kindle Fire and a Nikon camera. A special 25th Anniversary tribute was written and announced by Paul Rhodes, honoring Pam Brittain and Terri (Kaufman) Hollowell, recognizing these ladies as our “founding members” of the Arizona Trustee Association! Following dinner, was the hilariously funny magician/comedian Becky Bee! Many thanks to both Steve Itkin and Steve Vadas for being such good sports allowing us to laugh at their expense! Steve Itkin literally “lost his shirt” and Steve Vadas donned an “Elvis” cape and entertained us all! The evening didn’t end there – many folks went downstairs to the local saloon and sang karaoke into the wee hours of the night! The Convention wrapped on Friday after a great session of speakers and topics, followed by lunch and the “best of the rest” of the Raffle Gifts! president’s messageDear Members:

We may find the year 2012 will be viewed as thecalm before the storm. For the most part, the legislaturedid little mischief with the trustee sale statutes in 2012.However, as we approach 2013, we may be presented withlegislation based upon other states’ efforts aimed at“fixing” the foreclosure crisis. Nevada has followedCalifornia’s model of mandated mediations prior toforeclosures, the net result of which is foreclosures inNevada have ground to a virtual halt. From experience, wedo know that often the cure proposed by the legislature may cause muchgreater woes than the problems the cure is supposed to remedy. Ask theNevada foreclosure companies about that.

2013 may be an interesting year for the ATA.

I have been proud to serve as the Association’s President for the last twoyears. The members of the Board of Directors have been generous in theirtime, insightful about the industry and mostly put up with my sometimesstrange sense of humor.

The 25th annual convention in Sedona was a great success. It is a tribute toBrenda Tucson, Tracey Bayne and the Convention Committee members thatthe events unfolded seamlessly for the rest of us. The members of theConvention Committee are now reaching a professional level from whoseefforts we have all benefited. Kim Lepore did an outstanding job as theEducation Chair to put together a talented and entertaining group of speakers.

While I will end my second year term as the President, I will continue toserve as the Chairman of the Legislative Committee. I thank each of you foryour support during this last year. I welcome your input regarding legislativeconcerns and how to keep the Association relevant to your business.

As they say, you have my number (or e-mail address), so call me.
