Keynote Speakers

Donalyn Miller

Donalyn Miller is a sixth grade language arts teacher at Trinity Meadows Intermediate School in Keller, Texas. In her popular book, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child, Donalyn reflects on her journey to become a reading teacher and shares how she inspires and motivates her students to read 40 or more books a year. Donalyn currently writes a blog, “The Book Whisperer,” for Education Week Teacher and a monthly column for Scholastic Book Fairs’ Principal to Principal e-newsletter.

Dr. Michael Eisenberg

Mike Eisenberg is widely known in library, information, and education circles. He co-founded (with Peter Milbury) LM_NET, the school library media electronic community, and is co-author (with Bob Berkowitz) of the Big6™, the most widely used approach to information and technology literacy skills instruction in the world. Mike is a passionate advocate for the importance of teacher-librarians and school library information and technology programs in learning. Mike is a prolific author (9 books and dozens of articles) and has worked with thousands of students—pre-K through higher education—as well as people in business, government, and communities to improve their information and technology skills.

Chris Crutcher

Chris Crutcher is the author of 14 books -- eleven novels, two short story collections and an autobiography. His signature blend of tragedy and comedy have made him a favorite with teen and adult readers. He is also one of the most frequently banned authors in North America -- a fact he considers an accomplishment, rather than a drawback. A popular Voices from the Middle columnist for several years, Crutcher has been awarded the NCTE's National Intellectual Freedom Award, the ALAN Award, the ALA's Margaret A. Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award, the CLA's St. Katharine Drexel Award and Writer magazine's Writers Who Make a Difference Award. He makes his home in Spokane, Washington.

Big 6™ by the Month: Comprehensive & Essential Information Literacy Programs Now! – Dr. Mike Eisenberg

Big6 by the Month is a new approach to delivering comprehensive and accountable information and technology literacy learning. Big6 by the Month is a systematic way to envision, plan, and deliver information literacy programs that are valued as essential in every school.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to revise your current information literacy program so that it reaches all students in your school by being clearly defined, predictable, measured, and reported.
