IntroductionOur first tournament, in July 2008, started our Florida Keys Open (FKO) history with some notable names in the spearfishing community in the Keys. Each year, participation has surpassed the previous year and the home base of the shooters has expanded to other areas in Florida and throughout the United States. In 2010 year, a 75.8 pound Black Grouper was the highlight of the tournament with over 65 fish weighted in. Last year, we had the most shooters ever in our tournament with more fish speared than ever. Another highlight...we had more lady shooters than ever before.

Here is what we at Capt. Hook’s is doing to bring shooters and customers for this event.

1. Our approach is to maximize exposure by holding the FKO tournament when customers are concentrated in the Florida Keys. July is our busiest month. This year the tournament will be in the same week as the 4th of July which should be in bigger crowds.

2. We have added a socially responsible element to our having fun in the ocean. We support responsible use of the ocean and the American Cancer Society. Our tournament shooters have demonstrated a love of the ocean and this sport and while we have been having fun, we have provided over $10,000 to the American Cancer Society.

3. We have made the entry cost to participate in the FKO very reasonable. The success of the tournament and the commitment to the American Cancer Society donation are directly proportional to the participants in the tournaments.

4. Prizes and prize money rivals many of the more established tournaments and there are plenty of categories to compete in, so the excitement is spread around.

5. We have included a significant web presence to the tournament for greater access and utility for our participants and sponsors.

6. Capt. Hook’s is not interested in any gain from the tournament except for the recognition of putting on a great tournament. All Captain Hook’s labor associated with the tournament is donated or paid for by Captain Hook’s and not through the entry fees or any sponsor contributions.

Sponsorship OpportunitiesTop Sponsors

Top Sponsors are those sponsors that have committed to at least $1,000 dollars or that value in prizes. Throughout the rest of this Sponsors Package, we will describe the advantages Top Sponsors have in the promotion of their products and services and the recognition in the support of this tournament. The Top Sponsors will get the most recognition throughout the tournament.

Tournament Shirt

Our tournament shirt will be a long sleeve T-Shirt that all participants and sponsors will want to wear. Each year we have had a new design that has enhanced the appeal for the tournament to the shooters. The designs have been contributed by some very fine artists in the marine environment such as Joe Suroviec, Carey Chen and SaltLife.

Publications

There will be a tournament poster, and flyers, as well.

The Tournament Poster is 11 x 17 inch and is distributed to all of the local business that are associate with the tackle shops, fishing, recreation, travel and vacation industries throughout the Keys, Florida and to our mailing list. The size of the poster is chosen so it can be displayed on the front doors of retailers, hotels, convenience stores, etc. All Top Sponsors will be listed on the tournament flyer.

The Tournament Flyer is 8 1/2 x 11 inch and is distributed to all of the local business that are associate with the tackle shops, fishing, recreation, travel and vacation industries throughout the Keys, Florida and to our mailing list. The size of the flyer is chosen so it can be distributed to any and all customers that come into an establishment. All Top Sponsors will be listed on the tournament flyer.

Tournament Post Cards will be displayed at the same locations in a series of distribution to keep the tournament in the forefront of everyone’s mind. The flyers are placed in each customer bag at the time of their purchase so the word is spread even more. The Top Sponsors will be identified on the post cards and the post cards will be updated as more Top Sponsors commit.

Banners

Capt. Hook’s has two roof top locations where the top two sponsors can position 4 foot by 8 foot banners during the tournament, to be seen by approximately 25,000 cars daily that pass within viewing on US 1, Overseas Highway. This area is also visible to all of the boat traffic on Vaca Cut and all of the patrons to Capt. Hook’s by boat.

Several other areas are to be used for banners such as the ceremony presentation, balcony frontage, and the Dive Wall.

Many of these locations are identified by the white squares on the above picture of the back deck of Captain Hook’s.

Top Sponsors will get first choice on the best banner locations.

PELAGIC was one of our Top Sponsors last year. Their banner was displayed above the Captain’s Meeting’s prize table and sponsor’s brochure area. Several prizes were raffled at the Captain’s Meeting.

Past top sponsors include Cressi, Mares, Salt-Life, Riffe, First State Bank of the Florida Keys, and Hammerhead Spearguns.

Tournament Bag

The Tournament Bag is given to each individual registered in the tournament. Top Sponsors can place promotional materials or items in the bag for the shooters. The Tournament Bag will have the rules & regulations, tournament T-Shirt in the requested size, necessary tickets for the events and food.

Radio Announcements and General Announcements

The top sponsors will be announced by Capt. Scott Hopp with Capt. Hook’s and details about the tournament during the “FishMonster” radio show. Our tournament director, Captain James Simcic will MC this event.

The Top Sponsors will be mentioned on VHF marine radio during the hourly updates on the fish weighed in.

Website

A brand new FKO Tournament Website has been constructed for the tournament with a domain name of www.floridakeysopen.com. It will consist of five pages:

•Tournament Overview and Events Summary•Rules & Regulations•Sponsors Page•Registration•Photos

The website presence will be approximately one year or until the next annual tournament update is provided on the website. Top sponsors will get a premium listing with logo, better positioning and description paragraph. All sponsors will get a linked listing to their web address.

Additional Web Presence

Captain Hook’s Website that gets over 5000 new visitors per month. There is a link from the Captain Hook’s site to the Florida Keys Open Tournament site giving you even more exposure.

SpearfishingMarathon.com is another website we have under construction. We are continually adding articles and information on that site about spearfishing in the Florida Keys and Marathon area. It is also linked through Captain Hook’s website.

Facebook©, a social networking site, will be used to contact potential shooters as well. A Facebook© Event will be established for all Tournaments, so Facebook© users that indicate their interests are these events can visit to learn the details. Sponsors can be added to the Facebook© site at the sponsors request. An email address of info@captainhooks.com handles the email traffic for tournament.

Our Top Sponsors, if they are present, will be given the opportunity to present the top awards of the tournament.

Retail Space

Retailing space will be made available at no charge for all Top Sponsors for the three days of the tournament. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know your customer, especially those customers that are enthusiastic enough to participate in a tournament. If there is enough response then Captain Hook’s will run an ad in the Marathon Weekly with the names of the Top Sponsors that will be displaying their equipment.

In closing, we want this tournament and all of the Florida Keys Open events to be fun events and we will do everything in our power to make that happen. But there is a more serious goal that we as a family have for this tournament. Cancer has had a large impact on our family. Several of our family members have died much too young from cancer and just a little over a year ago, our mother died from cancer. Capt. Hook’s will donate all of the profits from this tournament. With your help, I believe we can have a great tournament for many years to come and my hope is that we will have to change our donation to another worthy cause because cancer has been eradicated.
