A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-2155 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLES TRAVELING ALONG A CERTAIN PORTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 26 IN CHARLESTON COUNTY MUST BE OPERATED ONLY IN THE FARTHEST LEFT LANE AND TO PROVIDE A PENALTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 13, Chapter 1, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

“Section 56-1-2155. (A) Notwithstanding another provision of law, commercial motor vehicles traveling along the portion of Interstate Highway 26 in Charleston County from its intersection with South Carolina Highway 7 to its intersection with Ashley Phosphate Road must be operated only in the farthest left lane unless they are exiting from the highway or are in need of emergency services.

(B) The Department of Transportation shall erect appropriate signs along this portion of highway to inform motorist of these lane restrictions.

(C) A person who violates this provision is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than one hundred dollars.”

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
