Page 2: 2011-2012 Annual Report

We value the ever-expanding web of personal connections that link students, parents, faculty, alumni, volunteers and community partners – because institutions transcend generations and must extend beyond their physical boundaries if they are to be an integral part of their communities.

We are a learning community, not perfect, but taking advantage of opportunities that come our way. As we look to the future, we see Island School positioned for success:

• A six-year accreditation from the Hawai`i Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools

National Association for the Education of Young Children, validates the strength of our programs.

• A stable and active Board of Directors provides strong and progressive leadership.

• Members of the faculty possess a genuine love of learning

instruction.

• Flexible administration allows for rich educational programs

sland School changes lives.

ence of

and each day brings with it new educational adventures.

As you review our 2011-2012 Annual Report, we believe you will

make Island School unique, and ways that you contribute to our collective success.

We are a community of people who care – about our youth, about our island home, about striving to achieve excellence in deed and character.

Our academic programs are thoughtfully constructed, based on Dr. Howard Gardener’s theory of multiple intelligences. These are constantly reviewed and updated according to the needs of our students as they face challenges of an increasingly complicated world.

Experiences in athletics and the arts, hands-on learning projects such as robotics and school gardens, community service, and social activities complement the academic program.

and activities and attracts a broad range of talent.

• Generous alumni, parents, donors and friends invest in the potential of our students and programs with bright hope.

We celebrate the growth of our students, our school, and our community with humility and gratitude. Mahalo Nui Loa,

Pictured above is the proposed Science, Math and Robotics Complex. It has classrooms with updated laboratory equipment, seminar rooms, a workshop and an attached arena for robotics tournaments and other events. Fundraising is currently underway.

Also, Voyager Solar will be up and running soon, with the capacity to produce 200kW of electricty per hour—enough to power the campus and sell some excess to Kaua`i Island Utility Cooperative.

An Evening in ParisIsland School’s 33rd Annual Gala Auction whisked attendees away to the City of Lights for an evening of fine food, wine, and spectacular live, silent and dessert auctions. The ambience included live musicians, our very own Penny Nichols as a street artist, French character entertainers and a brilliant evening sky. The event raised $180,000 to support tuition aid for families in need.
