ANDREAS LINDBERG
After a standout fi rst season that included an East
Coast Conference Championship and a 12-5-2 record,
along with an East Coast Conference Coach of the Year
honor, Andreas Lindberg enters his seccond year with
expectations even higher for his Pioneers.
Last season’s success was a fi ve-win turnaround from
the previous year, and saw the Pioneers advance to the
championship game in the ECC tournament, defeating
Dowling College in penalty kicks to earn the champion-
ship title.
Lindberg was named the 12th coach in program his-
tory in April, 2009.
Lindberg previously served as head coach of the men’s
soccer program at LIU-Southampton from 2002-05. Lind-
berg posted a cumulative 30-14-7 record during his three-
year tenure at Southampton. He led the Colonials to the
New York Collegiate Athletic Conference championship
in 2002 and was a runner-up in the ECAC tournament.
Lindberg also assisted current C.W. Post women’s
head coach, Mark Dawson, with the Southampton wom-
en’s program in leading the Colonials to the second round
of the 2004 NCAA Division II Championships as well as
an ECAC championship.
In addition to his duties as C.W. Post men’s soccer
head coach, Lindberg is currently a head coach at the
Met Oval Developmental Academy, a member of the
USSF Developmental Academy. He has been a member
of the staff since 2007 and is responsible for coaching and
training top-level 15-18 year olds in the tri-state area and
communicating with United States National Team scouts.
Th e Hampton Bays, N.Y. resident is certifi ed by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) with an Advanced National Diploma, and also
serves as the regional site director of the Farmingdale
Future Stars Summer Camps, where he manages and
supervises up to 1,200 kids weekly who participate in the
camps.

2010 men’s soccer
Expectations for the 2010 men’s soccer team are
high, following an inaugural season for head coach An-
dreas Lindberg that saw the Pioneers post a 12-5-2 re-
cord and win an East Coast Conference championship
title after defeating Dowling College in penalty kicks,
6-5. But the Pioneers are hungry for more and will look
to not only repeat last season’s conference success, but
continue to push for an NCAA East Regional bid.
Forwards –
Returning player Betim Bajrami (Helsingborg,
Sweden) led the Pioneers in scoring last season and will
look to repeat that performance this year. A proven
goal scorer, Bajrami can
fi nish well, and the coaching
staff will look for improved
leadership from the forward.
William Lindberg
(Gothenburg, Sweden) is a
newcomer to the Pioneers,
but a very experienced goal
scorer who can set up as
well as fi nish. Th e off ense
will rely on him as he dem-
onstrates a veteran pres-
ence.
Transfer Rumen
Kerekov (Sofi a, Bulgaria) is
another addition to the of-
fense, as he is a good fi nish-
er and has excellent 1-on-1
speed that will challenge
opposing defenders.
Anton Britschgi (Por-
voo, Finland) is a tall athlete
who will be a great target player up front. His heading
skills and his ability to score with both feet give him
good potential to see action.
Two seniors are in their fourth year with the
Pioneers and they will challenge for minutes on the
off ensive end while providing depth at the forward
position. Matt Madarasz (Smithtown, N.Y.) is a great
teammate and a hardworking player who provides good
senior leadership. Emanuel Messina (Lynbrook, N.Y.)
will look to increase his goal count this season with his
speed and toughness up front.
Midfi eld –
Returning at midfi eld for the Pioneers is senior
Kohsro Panah (Lund, Sweden). Lindberg looks for im-
proved physical fi tness from Panah, who battled injuries
during his fi rst two seasons but had a good off season.
Panah’s presence will set the tone in the midfi eld.
At outside midfi eld, the Pioneers return two-time
All-Conference selection David Carlsson (Gothen-
burg, Sweden). Carlsson’s quickness on the outside will
continue to be an asset, along with his off ensive skills
that the Pioneers will rely on to create goals.
Returning player Neil Franco (Staten Island, N.Y.)
is a tall and strong player who will look to increase
his playing time this season. Versatile
Franco could see time at midfi eld or on
defense.
Niclas Dahlin (Kungalv, Swe-
den) returns after playing in all 17
games last season. A left-footed player
with a good shot, Dahlin will continue
to push for time as a goal scoring threat
in the midfi eld. Johan Jintoft (Gothen-
burg, Sweden) also returns after seeing
action last season. Described by Lind-
berg as the fi ttest player on the team,
Jintoft is a great team player with good
vision who will look for minutes.
Th ere will be an infl ux of new
faces in the midfi eld as there are plenty
of athletic players for Lindberg to use
both starting and reserve capacities.
Freshman Karsten Viste (Randaberg,
Norway ) is a hard working utility player
who will see time at both midfi eld and
back. Joakim Ohlson (Lund, Sweden)
is a tall physical freshman who has the ability to play
anywhere central, with his biggest strength being his
heading ability.
Another sizeable freshman is Daniel Hawkins
(Randaberg, Norway), who has good skills with the ball
at his feet and is a solid technical player. Junior trans-
fer Chris King (Hauppauge, N.Y.) will also see time at
midfi eld as he is a competitor who is working back into
game shape after off season surgery. As he returns to
form he will push for increased playing time.
Chris Maye (Brampton, Ontario) is another versa-
tile Pioneer who could play both midfi eld and defense,

and although he is also working back into playing shape
after off season injuries, he will provide important
depth at center midfi eld or defense.
Defense –
Leading the way on defense will be last year’s East
Coast Conference Tournament MVP, sophomore Leron
Haywood (Rosedale, N.Y.). Haywood is a consistent
and solid defender who is strong in the air and provides
a gritty presence on defense.
Along with Haywood, returner Chris Leaver
(London, England) will serve
as an anchor of the backfi eld.
Leaver was selected as a co-
captain after a great off season
that saw him display excellent
leadership and maturity. He
has great communication
skills and good vision, which
will be key as he holds down
the central defense.
Also returning to his po-
sition as a starting defender
is third-year player David
Borysewicz (Bay Shore,
N.Y.). A hard worker and an
intense player, Borysewicz is
a two-year starter who has
plenty of experience that will
benefi t him this season.
Challenging for a start-
ing back position will be
freshman Eirik Bjoernoe
(Randaberg, Norway), a solid
left-footed defender. His
good physical shape and his excellent crossing ability
will put him in contention for the left back spot, and his
off ensive skills could spark the Pioneers as well, as he is
an aggressive player who loves to play forward.
Th ree junior transfers will look to contribute
defensively during their fi rst year in green and gold.
Tobias Christensen (Munkedal, Sweden) is a solid
technical player with good fi eld vision who will provide
veteran leadership. Matthew Gontowicz (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) is a tough, hard-nosed defender who will push for
playing time. A standout tackler, Gontowicz is a sturdy
defender who will add excellent depth. Chris Tempera
(Sayville, N.Y.) is a tall and physical defender who will
push for minutes as well.
Goalkeepers –
Two players will vie for the starting spot, as return-
ing player Ed Shone (Liverpool, England) looks to gain
the edge over freshman Marco Jorgensen (Copenha-
gen, Denmark). Shone has stepped up into a bigger role
this season after a solid off season. Selected as a co-cap-
tain, he is a vocal leader on the fi eld and has good feet
and secure hands. Jorgensen will issue a stiff challenge
to Shone as he is an athletic
player with great size and good
shot stopping ability.
“With few seniors, we will
need leadership from younger
players,” says Lindberg. Th e
schedule will not make it easy
on the young Pioneers. With a
grueling mix of non-conference
games and early East Coast
Conference tests, Lindberg
believes his could be one of
the toughest schedules in the
region. However, it will be one
that will get the team ready for
ECC games against traditionally
powerful Dowling and Bridge-
port, along with local rivals
NYIT and Molloy.
C.W. Post will certainly
be tested early as it travels
north to take on Southern New
Hampshire, traditional power-
house Franklin Pierce, and Merrimack within the fi rst
four games of the season.
In a matchup of last year’s ECC fi nalists, the
Pioneers will take on Dowling on Saturday, Sept. 9 at
home, while also hosting Bridgeport in a Saturday home
contest, on Sept. 2.

A seasoned administrator, Dr. Forestell served as vice president of the Pacifi c Whale Foundation
in Hawaii, as dean of undergraduate programs at Southampton College of Long Island University,
and as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at C.W. Post.
As provost, Dr. Forestell leads one of the New York metropolitan area’s most respected private

continuing education students. He is responsible for campus operations, program development,
admissions and recruitment, retention, fi nancial aid, athletics, student aff airs, public safety, and

achieving academic and career success. A champion of experiential learning, he coordinates study abroad and fi eld research op-
portunities for students, and teaches classes in whale and dolphin behavior.
Dr. Forestell graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Canada with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philoso-
phy in 1972 and a master’s degree in experimental psychology in 1976. He earned a Ph.D. in comparative psychology from the
University of Hawaii in 1988. He is the author of several peer-reviewed science articles and four books, including “Humpbacks of
Hawai’i: Th e Long Journey Back.”
Paul H. Forestell - Provost, C.W. Post
Dr. David J. Steinberg, the ninth president of Long Island University, has served the institution
since 1985. Th e son of the late Rabbi Milton Steinberg of Manhattan’s Park Avenue Synagogue, he
was born in New York City and was educated at Phillips Academy at Andover, Malvern College in
England and Harvard College, from which he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
After a Fulbright year at the University of the Philippines and a year at Columbia University on
a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, he returned to Harvard, where he earned an M.A. in East Asian
studies in 1963, and a Ph.D. in history in 1964. Dr. Steinberg also has received several honorary
degrees.
He began his teaching career in the Department of History at the University of Michigan, where
he rose to the rank of full professor. In 1973, he joined the administration of Brandeis University as
executive assistant to the president, becoming vice president and university secretary in 1977.
Th e author of numerous books and articles on Southeast Asia and, in particular, Philippine history, Dr. Steinberg has taught,
lectured and written about this important area of the world for a third of a century. His fi rst book, “Philippine Collaboration in
World War II,” won the University Press Award in 1969. “Th e Philippines: A Singular and a Plural Place,” now in its third edi-
tion, was described by U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Nicholas Platt as “the best single-volume guide to understanding the
Philippines, past and present.” He also edited and co-authored both editions of “In Search of Southeast Asia,” one of the major
textbooks on the area. Dr. Steinberg recently collaborated with top scholars from around the world to co-author “Th e Emergence
of Modern Southeast Asia,” a new and multifaceted history of this complex region. In addition, he is a co-author of “Religion and
Religiosity in the Philippines and Indonesia: Essays on State, Society and Public Creeds,” which was published in 2005.
Dr. Steinberg was a member of the international observer team that monitored the Philippine presidential elections when
Corazon Aquino defeated Ferdinand Marcos. He has written numerous op-ed pieces and has been a consultant to UN agencies,
the United States government, the Ford Foundation and others.
He and his wife, Joan, a chanteuse and real estate executive, reside in McGrath House on the C.W. Post Campus. Th e couple
has two Cavalier King Charles spaniels, whom they sometimes bring to football games on campus. His greatest personal accom-
plishment: raising his two superb sons, Noah and Jonah. His greatest pleasure: watching his grandchildren grow.
