FUTURARC�GREEN�LEADERSHIP�AWARD�2011��

The�FuturArc�Green�Leadership�Award�(formerly�known�as�the�BCI�Green�Design�Award)�

recognises�the�team�behind�a�completed�project:�the�developer,�consultants�and�contractors,�

who�have�collectively�pushed�the�limits�and�definition�of�what�a�Green�building�is�in�Asia�and�

Australia.�

The�competition�seeks�to�award�teams�that�have�demonstrated�the�best�in�innovation�and�

environmental�stewardship�in�architecture.�

Dr�Nirmal�Kishnani,�this�year’s�jury�chair,�elaborates,�“The�FuturArc�Green�Leadership�Award�is�

given�to�completed�projects�that�espouse�principles�of�sustainability�that�are�both�innovative�

and�contextually�sensitive.�It�offers�the�building�industry�a�showcase�of�viewpoints—converging�

roadmaps�to�the�larger�goals�of�ecological�design—as�represented�by�the�journey�taken�by�

each�project�team�that�turned�its�ideas�into�reality.�Last�year’s�winners—when�it�was�known�as�

the�BCI�Green�Design�Award—were�a�spectrum�of�project�types�and�approaches�from�a�holiday�

resort�in�Bali�to�public�housing�in�Hong�Kong.�This�year�the�jury�expects�no�less�ambition,�

perhaps�greater�diversity,�as�the�award,�now�in�its�third�year,�garners�a�following�in�the�

region.”�

Eligibility��

The�project—defined�as�new,�restored,�rehabilitated�or�converted—must�be�completed�

between�1�January�2007�and�31�December�2010,�and�must�be�located�within�Asia�or�Australia.��

Entries�are�invited�in�five�categories:�

1. Residential�Architecture�–�Individual�Houses�

2. Residential�Architecture�–�Multiple�Houses�

3. Commercial�Architecture�

4. Institutional�Architecture�

5. Interior�Architecture�

The�competition�is�open�from�now�till�30�November�2010.��

Winners�will�be�notified�by�the�end�of�March�2011�to�receive�their�trophies�and�prizes�at�the�

annual�BCI�Asia�Awards�ceremonies�held�in�May�2011�in�seven�cities;��Hong�Kong,�Indonesia,�

Malaysia,�Philippines,�Singapore,�Thailand�and�Vietnam.��

All�entrants�are�required�to�register�and�submit�their�entries�online�via�the�competition�

About�the�Jury�Panel��Nirmal�Kishnani,�PhD,�is�Chief�Editor�of�the�FuturArc�Journal.�He�is�an�advocate,�educator�and�

practitioner� in� the� field� of� Green� building� design,� presently� with� the� Department� of�

Architecture�at�the�National�University�of�Singapore�where�he�holds�the�appointment�of�Senior�

Lecturer�and�Programme�Director�of� the�Master�of�Science� in� Integrated�Sustainable�Design.�

He�has�lectured�and�written�widely�on�the�subject�of�Green�design�process.�Since�2002�–�when�

he�founded�one�of�the�first�dedicated�Green�design�consultancy�operating�in�and�out�of�Asia�–�

he� has� consulted� on/for� many� projects� and� organisations� in� the� region� including� the� Asian�

Development�Bank�and�United�Nations�Environment�Programme.�Dr�Kishnani� sits�on� several�

advisory� panels� in� Southeast� Asia,� active� in� the� development� of� policy� instruments� and�

capacity�building�in�the�Green�building�industry.�Dr.�Kishnani�is�also�Jury�Chair�of�FuturArc�Prize�

2011�and�a�juror�for�the�Emerson�Cup.�

Deo�Prasad,�PhD,�is�Professor�and�the�Director�of�the�Sustainable�Development�Program�at�the�

University�of�New�South�Wales.�He�has�worked�on�milestone�projects�including�Australia’s�first�

solar� village,� scientific� validation� of� computer� simulation� tools� for� energy� performance�

prediction� of� buildings� and� related� green� building� assessment� tools,� advanced� performance�

simulation�of�buildings�using�complex�modelling�software�and�the�Green�Olympics�projects.�He�

has�won�an�Australian�National�Research�Innovation�Award,�the�NSW�Government�2004�Green�

Globe� Award� and� the� Australian� Institute� of� Architects� 2006� National� Award� for� research,�

design�and�education�in�sustainability.�

Kevin�Hydes�is�the�CEO�of�Integral�Group,�a�Global�Building�Engineering�firm�with�an�industry�

leading�seven�LEED�Platinum�completed�projects�focused�on�DEEP�GREEN�solutions.�He�served�

as�Chair�of�the�USGBC�from�2005�2006,�Chair�of�WGBC�from�2007�2008�and�is�a�founder�and�

director�of�CanadaGBC.�Hailing� from�Leeds� in� the�UK,�Kevin�has� focused�on�green�design� for�

the� past� 15� years.� His� vision� led� to� the� first� LEED�Gold� certified� project� in� Canada,� the� first�

LEED�EB�Gold�certified�project� in�North�America,�and�the�successful�completion�of�dozens�of�

projects�worldwide.�He�is�an�Honorary�Member�of�the�Royal�Architectural�Institute�of�Canada�

and� the� Architectural� Institute� of� British� Columbia,� and� an� adjunct� professor� at� McGill�

University� School� of� Architecture.� He� is� an� advisor� to� both� the� Clinton� Carbon� Positive�

Communities�program�and�One�Planet� Living.�He� is� a�member�of� the�Singapore�government�

international�Panel�of�Advisors.�
