Any wood or coal fire produces creosote, especially in an airtightheating system. The use of unseasoned or resinous wood createsfurther creosote buildup. Normally, these deposits are flammablesticky tar-like substances and, if left unchecked, creosote depositscan drastically reduce the efficiency of a heating unit or cause adangerous chimney fire.

Use of one of Rutland’s creosote control products will change thecreosote into a brushable ash. Deposits fall to the bottom of the

chimney for easy removal. Be sure to check elbows often forblockage as creosote begins to loosen.

Use of our products does not eliminate the need for a regularprofessional chimney cleaning. For best results, and maximumsafety, we recommend a professional chimney cleaning along withpreventive maintenance program using one of our creosotecontrol products.
