The group has creatively married the lyrical sensibilities of Folk and Blues with the guitar lines and rhythms of Palm Wine music, creating a new form of innovative World Roots music that is delighting fans and making critics take notice. “Listening to their music is like taking a tropical vacation,” proclaimed the San Jose Mercury News.

Balancing a fine line between relaxing beats and grooving tempos that make the audience want to dance, Palm Wine music is a West African style of guitar plucking, sometimes accompanied by percussion. The San Francisco-based Palm Wine Boys has performed to much acclaim at the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard; the Wild Iris Festival in Sonoma; and the California WorldFest in Grass Valley, which celebrates music and dance forms from around the globe. Radio appearances on programs such as the Bay Area’s West Coast Live have garnered the troupe more exposure and expanded its fan base.

BIOGRAPHYExpect the unexpected with THE FLYING

KARAMAZOV BROTHERS IN 4 PLAY. The self-proclaimed eccentric “lunatics” spice things up with a zany showcase filled with the astonishing juggling feats, laugh-out-loud comedy, and wild theatrics that have taken them to Broadway, television, and the big screen.

What started as a street act in 1970s San Francisco has grown into a phenomenon that has toured to mass appeal throughout America and Europe. Members of The Flying Karamazov Brothers don’t actually fly in their routines, but everything else does – in sweeping, gravity-defying arcs: swords, apples, torches, fish, windy philosophies, theatrics, and jokes. “Imagine a quartet of master jugglers, multi-instrument musicians, circus clowns, improv comics, esoteric satirists, and playful techno-wizards who tap dance,” said the Los Angeles Times, and it all becomes “magically indescribable.”

The New York Times called the juggling “infectious.” “The flurry of pins that somehow never collide becomes more than a display of hard-earned skill and teamwork. In

portraying a communal effort as sublime play, it evokes the utopian ideal of a group that has achieved a perfect understanding.”

Known for consistently testing the laws of physics, The Flying Karamazov Brothers often invites members of

the audience to contribute items for juggling. The group’s die-hard fans have been known to come prepared with odd items, including a baby carrier, cold cuts, pepperoni pizzas, and huge blocks of ice. Adept with a wide range of conventional instruments, The Flying Karamazov Brothers amplifies the excitement by making its own music, using clubs that are adapted

as percussion strikers to allow the troupe to play drums and marimba-phones without breaking juggling patterns.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers’ wild and physically demanding antics won the ensemble a 1981 OBIE Award for “Outstanding Achievement in the Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway Theatre” and a 2004 “Award of Excellence” from the International Jugglers’ Association. The group has appeared on the television sitcoms Seinfeld and Ellen and in the film The Jewel of the Nile. n

BIOGRAPHYWhen INTERPRETI VENEZIANI made its debut

in 1987, enthusiasm for the company was widespread and immediate, attracting droves of fans and winning the hearts of even the most discriminating critics. The group’s repertoire highlights the mystery and romance of Venice, which is home to Interpreti Veneziani and the birthplace of its inspiration: celebrated violinist-composer Antonio Vivaldi.

With a passionate emphasis in Baroque music, Interpreti Veneziani performs more than 200 concerts a year at Venice’s San Vidal Church, where Vivaldi used to play and

where his spirit and legacy continue to shine. Convinced that no other composer captures Venice quite like Vivaldi, the ensemble has reproduced the city’s romanticism and mysticism and the composer’s musical creations in concert halls around the globe. Performances in Japan, Russia, Australia, the United States, and South America have garnered the group international recognition and acclaim, with critics electrified by the members’ individual talents as well as the ensemble’s collective influence on the Classical music realm. n

BIOGRAPHIES In a rousing evening packed with wall-to-wall Rock

classics and Soul hits from the last 50 years, THE AMERICAN SOUL & ROCK & ROLL CHOIR explores the evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll, tracing its roots back to Soul, Gospel, and R&B. The choir – composed of high-spirited singers and a sizzling Soul rhythm section – takes the biggest Rock hits of past generations and performs these songs with all the energy, frenzy, showmanship, and unity most often associated with Gospel music.

The show is a tribute to Soul, Blues, and Gospel music and the genres’ power to unite people from all generations and backgrounds. Icons such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones have all credited Gospel and Soul as their inspiration. The choir reinterprets these classic songs and delivers a cascade of timeless hits.

The touring production’s colorful repertoire has included Billboard’s Top 10 singles Imagine, Higher Love, Spirit in the Sky, and People Get Ready as well as all-time favorites Gotta Serve Somebody, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, Time Has Come Today, and Hold On. All are performed in a funky Rock-Gospel-Soul fusion style.

DAN BECK (Executive Producer), a 35-year music industry veteran, is considered one of the premier creative marketing experts and talent developers in the field. Beck was a key player in the campaigns and careers of music giants Patti LaBelle, Ted Nugent, Boston, The Clash, Michael Jackson, Culture Club, Gloria Estefan, Luther Vandross, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Sade, Charlie Rich, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Larry Gatlin, David Allan Coe, Moby, and Aerosmith.

DARRELL BROWN (Producer and Musical Director) has had great success as a songwriter and producer. He has collaborated with Rascal Flatts, Brooks and Dunn, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Mavis Staples, Dolly Parton, Wilson Phillips, and Smokey Robinson. Most recently Brown co-wrote nine songs with LeAnn Rimes for her Family album, which includes the Grammy-nominated hit single Nothing Better to Do. He also conducted the 100-voice choir for Neil Young’s Grammy-nominated album, Living With War, and was the musical director for a special Gospel presentation created for the NARAS Institute for a Grammy performance in 2008.

DEAN SHEREMET (Choreographer) is a highly

regarded dancer on the stage and screen. He has worked and studied with choreographers such as Vincent Patterson, Marguerite Derricks, Robin Antin, Barry Lather, and the late Bob Talmadge. His television, commercial, and film credits include Six Feet Under (director Kathy Bates), Old Navy’s 2000 national holiday campaign featuring Megan Mullally of Will & Grace (director Matthew Rolston), Nike, Sony, Mad TV, and Not Another Teen Movie. Sheremet has been an important creative force behind LeAnn Rimes’ career through her stage performances and music videos. He choreographed the Grammy-nominated video Nothing Better to Do, which he co-wrote with Rimes and Darrell Brown.

JOANNA COTTEN (Featured Vocalist) has performed at the Ryman Auditorium, Bull Pen Lounge, and in Nashville clubs. After watching her perform, producer Paul Worley signed her to Warner Bros. Records. Cotten has an exclusive songwriting contract with EMI and her songs have been recorded by LeAnn Rimes and Beyoncé. She attended The Juilliard School in New York City on a full scholarship.

CINDY MIZELLE (Featured Vocalist) is best known as an outstanding background vocalist for the late Luther Vandross in the studio and on stage. Her critically acclaimed solo album Cindy Mizelle was released in 1994, and she has contributed her vocal talents to more than 120 albums recorded by Freddie Jackson, Carly Simon, Chaka Kahn, George Benson, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Patti LaBelle, Céline Dion, and Alicia Keys. Mizelle has also toured and recorded with Whitney Houston, the Dave Matthews Band, The Rolling Stones, and Steely Dan.

NEAL COOMER (Featured Vocalist) has spent the past few years as a backup singer for Dolly Parton, Elton John, Sting, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz, Lyle Lovett, and Vanessa Williams. He has performed on Late Night With Conan O’Brien and the Country Music Awards, and frequently sings on Saturday Night Live. Coomer can be heard every week singing the theme song for 30 Rock. He started his career in Nashville, Tennessee, as the lead singer of the duo East to West.

JOANNA JANET (Featured Vocalist), a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been living in Nashville, Tennessee, and working in the music industry for more than 10 years. As a solo vocalist, she has recorded for Dreamworks

and Warner Bros. Records. Janet is one of Nashville’s most sought-after background vocalists. She is currently writing songs and singing demos for many of the top songwriters in Country music.

TY HERNDON’s (Choir Member) single Right About Now from his recent album was co-written with Darrell Brown and Michael Peterson. His first two albums went Gold and included the No. One Country singles What Mattered Most and Living in a Moment. Representatives from the television show Star Search saw Herndon perform at Opryland USA and he became a male-vocalist winner on the series.

SOPHIE BELLEVUE (Choir Member) sings backup for developing Gospel singers such as Nia Allen, Calvin Nowell, and Joint Heirs. In addition, Bellevue has performed session work for Michael McDonald, Rascal Flatts, and CeCe Winans. Currently she is performing with the community choir Out For Souls.

ELIZABETH WHITE (Choir Member) was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated from the creative and performing arts school Watkins Overton High School and Middle Tennessee State University. White currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and sings with several local and nationally known singers.

RICHARD “KYLE” HICKS (Choir Member) was born and raised in Warner Robins, Georgia. After graduating from high school in 2005, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his music career. Hicks is a drummer and singer at Crossroad Community Church and sings background vocals for Joint Heirs and the R&B group The Light.

CEDRIC P. SESLEY (Choir Member) was a member of the Grammy-winning O’Landa Draper & The Associates for 10 years. He also has worked with BeBe & CeCe Win-ans, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Billy Joel, Amy Grant, Michael McDonald, Michael Jackson, Kelli Price, Rascal Flatts, and The Clark Sisters. Sesley is the founder and director of Nashville’s newest community choir, Out For Souls. n

BIOGRAPHYIts winning style, artistic passion, and musical virtuosity

helped QUARTETTO GELATO win the coveted 1996 title of NPR Performance Today’s “Debut Artist of the Year” Award. Critics embraced the ensemble, with The New York Times hailing, “Quartetto Gelato’s performances have a warm, endearing vitality.” The Los Angeles Times noted: “Dry humor and occasional clowning are part of the quartet’s arsenal, yet first it meets the requisite virtues of skilled music-making. Its pleasure-giving is consistent.” Quartetto Gelato enchants audiences with a repertoire that spans Classical, Opera, Tango, Gypsy, and Folk music.

Quartetto Gelato consists of tenor-violinist-mandolin player Peter DeSotto, accordionist-pianist and bandoneon expert Alexander Sevastian, clarinetist Kornel Wolak, and cellist Carina Reeves. The Washington Post applauded the

group’s resounding ability to connect with fans. “Larger audiences are inevitable not only because the quartet’s members are fine musicians but also because they have learned to mix entertainment and music.”

The ensemble’s recordings include its debut album Quartetto Gelato; Neapolitan Cafe; Aria Fresca; Rustic Chivalry; Quartetto Gelato Travels the Orient Express, which celebrated the original journey of the famous train and spotlights music from London to Istanbul; and its recent Favourite Flavours.

The ensemble continues to expand its fan base globally with a series of successful tours in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Mexico. Movie lovers have heard Quartetto Gelato’s music in the 1994 romantic comedy Only You and the 2005 independent film Looking for Angelina. n

JOHN KANDER and FRED EBB’s (Music, Book, and Lyrics) Broad-way credits include Flora, the Red Menace; Cabaret (Tony Award); The Happy Time; Zorba; 70, Girls, 70; Chicago; The Act; Woman of the Year (Tony Award for “Best Score”); The Rink; Kiss of the Spider Woman (Tony Award for “Best Score”); Steel Pier; and Curtains. BOB FOSSE (Book) is the first director in history to win Oscar, Tony, and Emmy awards in 1973 for the film Cabaret, the musical Pippin, and the television special Liza With a Z. He won the first of eight Tony Awards as choreographer for The Pajama Game followed by directing and choreographing Redhead, Little Me, Sweet Charity (stage and film), Chicago, and Dancin’. Fosse’s other choreographic credits include Damn Yankees, New Girl in Town, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Big Deal. His film credits include My Sister Eileen, The Pajama Game, and Damn Yankees. Fosse was also the director for Lenny (Oscar nomina-tion), All That Jazz (Oscar nomination), and Star 80.

WALTER BOBBIE (Director) recently directed Christopher Durang’s The Marriage of Bette and Boo at Roundabout Theatre Company; David Ives’s New Jerusalem at Classic Stage Company; and No, No, Nannette at City Center’s Encores! He has won Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards for Chicago, which has become the longest running revival

in Broadway history. Bobbie’s other Broadway credits include High Fidelity, Sweet Charity, Twentieth Century, Footloose, and A Grand Night for Singing. He has also directed for the New York Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan Theatre Club, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Sundance, the O’Neill Center, and Goodspeed Opera House. His Irving Berlin’s White Christmas: The Musical has become a holiday favorite in the United States and England. Bobbie served as artistic director of City Center’s Encores! and continues as an artistic associate. He is on the executive board of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

ANN REINKING (Choreographer) won a Tony Award for “Best Choreography” for Chicago in 1997, as well as Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Astaire, and New York Drama Critics’ awards. Her other credits include director and co-choreographer for Fosse (1998 Tony Award for “Best Musical”) and Tony nominations for her leading performances in Dancin’ and Goodtime Charlie. She is the recipient of Theatre World, Clarence Derwent, and Outer Critics Circle awards for Maggie in Over Here! Reinking’s film credits include Movie, Movie; All That Jazz; Annie; and Micki and Maude. He has directed Chicago in 16 countries in more than 12 languages. His latest productions include Walking with Dinosaurs: The Arena Spectacular and Bette Midler’s The Showgirl Must Go On. Faris lives in New York with his daughter Emily and dedicates his work to his late wife Anna, who lost her long struggle with breast cancer.

GARY CHRYST (Choreography Re-creation) has staged choreog-raphy for Chicago around the world. He has also choreographed Petrouchka for American Ballet Theatre, and has danced on Broadway in Guys and Dolls, Dancin’, and A Chorus Line. He has a notable career as a Classical dancer with the Joffrey Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theatre III.

DON YORK’s (Music Director) Broadway credits include Sweet Charity, Little Me, Can-Can, Marriage of Figaro, 5-6-7-8 Dance!, I Love My Wife, and Clams on the Half Shell. His national tours include The Produc-ers; Fosse; Beauty and the Beast; Hello, Dolly!; The Ann-Margret Show; and Bette Midler-Live At Last. York has also been music director for Paul Taylor, New York City Ballet, Mark Morris, Miami City Ballet, the Milwaukee Ballet, and Ballet National de Marseille. He has worked on recordings with Bette Midler, Maureen McGovern, Judy Collins, Daryl Hall, and John Oates.

DAVID THOMPSON’s (Script Adaptation) projects include the libretto for Steel Pier (1997 Tony Award nomination); co-conceiving And the World Goes ’Round (Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards); and new librettos for the Off-Broadway and London revivals of Flora the Red Menace and 70, Girls, 70. He co-created PBS’ Great Performances Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall and wrote the documentary Razzle Dazzle.

ROB FISHER (Supervising Music Director) is the original conductor and music director for Chicago and its Grammy award-winning cast album, and supervisor for Chicago companies worldwide. Fisher has been the music director and conductor for Tony award-winning City Center’s Encores! series since its inception in 1994. His other credits include Garrison Keillor’s radio broadcasts, concerts at Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, PBS, the White House, a guest symphony conductor, and more than 20 recordings. Fisher’s Broadway tour credits include The Threepenny Opera starring Sting, Me and My Girl, A History of the American Film, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, Little Johnny Jones, and Big River.

JOHN MONACO (Musical Coordinator) is a musical theater veteran. He has been music coordinator for more than 100 Broadway musicals and has performed in more than 40 Broadway shows. Monaco has had the privilege of working with Richard Rodgers, John Kander, Jule Styne, Elmer Bernstein, Harvey Schmidt, Philip Springer, George Forrest, Robert Wright, Janusz Stoklos, and Steve Margoshes.

DAVID BRIAN BROWN’s (Wig and Hair Design) Broadway credits include Aida, The Rainmaker, The Iceman Cometh, Annie Get Your Gun, Little Me, Side Show, 1776, The Herbal Bed, Steel Pier, King David, Big, Sunset Boulevard, Artist Descending a Staircase, and the Whistle Down the Wind world premiere. DUNCAN STEWART (Casting Director) is the director of casting for the National Artists Management Company for Broadway and interna-tional touring companies of Chicago and other projects for producers Barry and Fran Weissler. Previously he worked with Alaine Alldaffer in casting for Playwrights Horizons, Huntington Theatre Company, Long Wharf Theatre, Coconut Grove Playhouse (Sonia Flew with Lucie Arnaz), and the pilot for Knights of Prosperity with Mick Jagger. Stewart’s recent Off-Broadway credits include Busy World is Hushed with Jill Clayburgh.

ARTHUR SICCARDI, THEATRICAL SERVICES INC. JILL B. GOUNDER (Stage Manager) has been a member of Actors’ Equity Association for 28 years and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employee for 14 years. She has been a part of tours and Broadway for Evita, 42nd Street, Cats, Into The Woods, Bye Bye Birdie, Grease, Dreamgirls, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Footloose, Saturday Night Fever, Aida, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Big River, Legends!, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and the Little House on the Prairie premiere.

JOSEPH FLETCHER’s (Assistant Stage Manager) previous com-panies include Walnut Street Theatre, Cirque du Soleil, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Orlando Opera, and Orlando Shakespeare Festival. His favorite credits include Chicago, Falsettos, The Pillowman, Candide, and China the Whole Enchilada. Fletcher received his bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Central Florida. BARRY and FRAN WEISSLER (Producers) have been producers for 40 years. They are the recipients of five Tony Awards for Othello, their Broadway debut starring James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer; Fiddler on the Roof with Topol; Gypsy with Tyne Daly; Annie Get Your Gun with Bernadette Peters and Reba McEntire; and Chicago, which also won the

Entertainment Inc. production, delights audiences with exciting performances of hits from the ’50s and ’60s from the band Little Anthony & The Imperials, the Rock group Jay & The Americans, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Johnny Tillotson.

LITTLE ANTHONY & THE IMPERIALS is known for its Doo-Wop and R&B sound and its ability to stay current with music’s changing tides while remaining true to its signature honey-smooth style. The group topped music charts with catchy tunes such as Goin’ Out of My Head, Hurt So Bad, and one of the most enduring love ballads of all time: the Top 10 hit Tears on My Pillow. Little Anthony & The Imperials, which received the 1993 Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s Pioneer Award, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. The band’s current lineup consists of three original members − lead singer Jerome “Little Anthony” Gourdine, singer-songwriter Clarence Collins, and

songwriter Ernest Wright − and singer-choreographer Harold Jenkins.

JAY & THE AMERICANS dominated the Billboard charts with She Cried, Only in America, Come a Little Bit Closer, and Cara Mia. The group’s version of This Magic Moment, originally recorded by The Drifters, was a Top 10 hit. The band was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002. The current lineup for Jay & The Americans includes original members Sandy Deanne and Howie Kane, who are accompanied by Marty Sanders and Jay Reincke.

Singer-songwriter JOHNNY TILLOTSON achieved great crossover success among Pop and Country fans with Poetry in Motion and Without You. His Grammy-nominated singles It Keeps Right On A Hurtin’ and Heartaches by the Number and the Top 10 hit Talk Back Trembling Lips secured his standing in music history, prompting Billboard magazine to name him one of the “Top 100 Recording Artists of the Rock Era.” n
