Writing an injured teammate’s number on your shoes.

A quick huddle before a free throw.

Wristbands.

Running suicides together for every missed free throw.

Setting a pick you’ll feel for a week.

Acknowledging a great pass.

The stale smell of bad road food.

Pre-game chants in the locker room.

Nicknames that your fans don’t even know.

Senior night.

Early morning practice.

Calling an ally-oop with the nod of your head.

Summer league.

Cards on the bus.

Backside help on defense.

An encouraging word during a timeout

A taunt from the bench.

A victory dance.

JUST DO IT.

The mission of Montverde Academy is to increase Knowledge and to develop Character through a nurturing and diverse Community.

Athletics is an extension of the classroom. To be successful as a player, it requires motivation, self discipline and an abundance of character. At Montverde Academy, we do not measure our success by the wins and losses, but in how our athletes represent the Academy and themselves in their sportsmanship and in their commitment to perform at their very best. Provided that these two important characteristics are in balance, a losing season can very much be a winning one.

Of equal interest, our athletes are students first and athletes second. As a college preparatory school, our expectations demand that our athletes must first master the challenge of being a good student and a good citizen within the school community. The measure of that accomplishment is again not found in wins and losses but when a student has earned an invitation to attend one of the nation’s most competitive colleges or universities.

While we are blessed with a basketball program that has achieved much local and national attention, it would be irresponsible of me as an educator and as a Head of School to allow this to define our existence. Founded in 1912, Montverde Academy has been preparing young people to achieve great success in a variety of careers; today is not an exception. I am equally as proud of our students who are accomplished artists, musicians, debaters, actors and academicians.

The diversity of our student athletes is representative of our school community. Over fifty percent of our boarding population represents students from thirty-two different countries that have traveled to the United States to prepare themselves for an opportunity to attend the nation’s most competitive colleges and universities. Having them here is an education in and of itself for this school community.

On behalf of the entire school community, I welcome you to Montverde Academy!

Sincerely,

Kasey C. KesselringHeadmaster

“There are many people who come and go in our lives but just a few touch us in a way that changes us forever, making us better by knowing them.” I was a member of Montverde Academy Basketball Team for two wonderful years, those years were life changing moments, where I grew so much as a student-athlete. Where I began trying to be a better man, a better player, and most importantly a better student. I have been blessed to have one of the best teachers of the game of basketball, who through the game of basketball taught me the values of life. One of my most memorable quotes will ever be “Son, always remember to stay humble and hungry! All the sacrifices and hard work will pay off!” Words are not enough to express my gratitude to Coach Sutton, for those valuable lessons which helped me and will continue to help me beyond my basketball career. He taught me values such as respect for my own life, hard work, perseverance, respect for others, trust, loyalty, character and the list could definitely go on. Success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt, and you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems afar, so stick to the fight (the good fight of faith) when you are hardest hit, it is when things go wrong that you must not quit! And remember we do not have bad days in our life! We have great days when everything goes exactly like we plan and good days when things don’t go the way we want them to go. Remember to always stay positive and that will make the difference. ~ Franck Ndongo

Playing for Coach Sutton definitely prepared me for college, not only basketball but as a student and as a man. Through basketball he has taught me many life lessons that I will never forget. Coach is more than a coach to his players he is a father to some, a friend to others, but to me he was a mentor. Playing for coach was one of the best decisions I could have ever made, I really owe a lot to him. ~ LD Williams

Playing for Coach Sutton was a learning process of how to be responsible and taking my academics seriously. He explained to me how important it was for me to be successful in class FIRST and also how important it is to give 100% efforts on the court. Right now in college my life is easier because of Coach Sutton’s program. I’m always the first in class and in the court after 3 years I learned to be a leader not a follower. Finally, I am so thankful for everything that I learned from the best high school coach in the country! ~ Jean Michel Yotio #34 GO KNIGHTS! UCF

Playing for Coach Sutton at MVA for 2 years taught me great things about basketball, such as teamwork, staying positive all the time, basketball discipline, skills and many more things. Those lesson made a huge impact on me not only on the basketball court, but in life as well. ~ Vytautas Valiulis
