Pepperl+Fuchs loop-powered isolators consist of current repeaters/drivers and converters. Repeatersand drivers transfer unaltered signals from safe areas to hazardous areas or vice versa. Converterschange signals from one unit to an appropriate measuring signal such as the0/4-20 mA or 0/1-5 V. P+F offers converters for RTDs, thermocouples, current and resistance. Sinceisolators in this section are loop-powered, use the specifications listed in the technical data to verifythat proper voltage is available to the field devices.

I

KFD0-SCS-Ex1.55

The KFD0-SCS-Ex1.55 universal moduledoes not require auxiliary power for the iso-lation of a 4-20 mA signal. It is loop pow-ered and has a noticeably lower power losscompared to active isolator modules. Themodule isolates 4-20 mA signals for trans-mitters and positioners and is bidirectionallyHART compatible. The HART transmittersand HART positioners can be configured inthe safe area as well as in the hazardousarea.

The low 5 V voltage drop also allows fortransmitter applications with unstable powersources in the range of 20-30 VDC. Pleasenote that the voltage drop across the resis-tor in the active measurement circuit mustbe included when calculating the availablefield voltage (Terminals 1+ and 2)

Lead breakage monitoring is possible bymeans of the reaction of the field current sig-nal to the safe area, which means the con-trol system has to monitor for an underscaleor overscale condition.

The module can also be used for control-ling solenoid valves and discrete outputs, such as LEDs based on the internal voltagelimits (safe area). Terminals 8- and 9+ in thiscase are driven with a 24 V signal.
