One day she decided to bring the ducks some pop-corn. This time when she walked toward them, they allswam away. They wouldn’t come out of the water. Shethrew the popcorn at them, but they didn’t even eat it.She was very disappointed.

A few days later, the ECKist came back to the pondwith some whole-grain bread. Two large geese weresitting by the water. But when she approached them withthe bread, they f lew into the pond and swam away fromher. Nobody wanted her food.

As she was walking away, a thought struck her. Otherpeople were giving the ducks and geese love in the formof food, love reduced down to a material substance. Theducks and geese had simply wanted a purer love, whichshe had been giving them by singing HU.

She learned a lesson from this. Birds and animalsneed love as much as we humans do. She could give it toall life through the love song to God, the HU.

HU represents the enormous love the Creator has forIts creation.

The Song ThatMakes God Happy

An ECK parablefrom Stories to Help You See God in Your Life,

ECK Parables, Book 4, p. 125

by Sri Harold Klemp

A woman and her six-year-old daughter liked to do aspiritual exercise each night before the little girl went tosleep. They sat on the bed together and sang HU.

Sometimes the little girl would break into randomsinging or chattering about this or that. And the motherwondered, Does my child really understand what HU isall about?

One night the little girl turned to her mother andsaid, “I know why we sing HU.”

Surprised, the mother asked, “Why?”“Because it’s the song that makes God happy,” the

child said. “It brings up all His joys. It’s the song of thespirit of life.”

Children speak from their hearts. Perhaps the termi-nology doesn’t always follow what we’d find in the ECKbooks. We speak of God, the Sugmad, as It rather than heor she. It is above the qualities of negative and positive. But in our human language we actually can’t even beginto approach the concept of God, except to talk about Itsqualities of love.

All that we can possibly do with the word HU is singit and give it reverence. It represents the love of God forSoul, and we are Soul. HU represents the enormous lovethe Creator has for Its creation.
