APOTHECARIES' WINGSchloß Schönbrunn, 1130 ViennaThursday, 13th September starts at 12:30 p.m.Friday, 14th September starts at 08:45 a.m.

The so-called Apothecaries’ Wing (Apo-thekertrakt) of Schönbrunn Palace was built in the course of the conversion from a hunting lodge to a residential palace shortly after the mid-18th century. These extensions of the palace com-plex as a summer residence for Maria Theresia also included the constructi-on of the outbuildings towards Meidling (now the 12th district) and Hietzing (now the 13th district), to grant the supply of the entire royal household.

Several floorplans of Schönbrunn from the 1760/70 show the ground level Apo-thecaries’ Wing up to the Cedrat House and the Orangery, which in its physical expression is largely identical to the

present building – except for the interior space structure.

Accordingly to the plans of the 19th cen-tury, in this wing, among others, were housed the Guards and the Locksmith’s Shop, the courts are designated as Locksmith and Guard Court; following the Cedrat House that opens to the Orangery Garden, stables were located, probably for the Mounted Guards.

The so-called Guards’ Wing (Gardetrakt) at the palace entrance northeast before the Court of Honour in 1906 was ex-panded into a modern accommodation for the Guards, including a kitchen and sanitary facilities in the basement. The

Imperial Court Administration used the vacant wing in addition to the lease for restaurants also for the accommodation of the Court Pharmacy that previously was located in the Guards’ Wing.

Generally, the Court Pharmacy should not only serve the imperial family but also guarantee the free delivery of drugs for the court employees. The operation of the pharmacy in Schönbrunn was main-tained even after the monarchy until 1976 in the eponymous Apothecaries’ Wing which forms the eastern end of the Meid-ling outhouses.

EVENING EVENT

During the Baroque age the Orangery not only housed rare and exotic plants, but also played an important role in courtly festivities. Erected after the mid- eighteenth-century, the Orangery was used under Joseph II as the setting for numerous receptions, feasts and theatre performances. It was here that the famous musical cont-est was fought between Wolfgang A. Mo-zart and Antonio Salieri and it was here that the Congress of Vienna danced. The plants in the Orangery and the Orangery Garden, designed as an ornamental as well as a kitchen garden, played a lea-ding part in the scenario of these events. Keeping to this tradition, the Orangery

provides today an imposing setting for events. The room, 700m² in size, its appearance elegant and yet reticent, is ideal for staging an event in a style that is both traditionally imperial as well as modern – regardless of whether it is a dinner, a lecture or an exhibition. As a guest, you can enjoy the atmo-sphere and be impressed by the direct connection between the Orangery Gar-den and the banqueting hall. Furthermo-re, the gravel forecourt to the Orangery can be transformed into an elegant inter-val zone.

ABOUT SCHÖNBRUNN PALACESchönbrunn Palace is located in the 13th

district of Vienna, Hietzing. The name Schönbrunn (“meaning beautiful spring“) has its roots in a remark from Emperor Matthias, who discovered a spring in this area in 1612 and is said to have exclai-med “What a beautiful spring” (“Welch’ schöner Brunn”). Thereupon the palace was built between 1638 and 1643 as a re-sidence for Empress Eleonora Gonzaga. The Schönbrunn Palace and its garden in its present form were built and remo-delled starting from 1743 during the reign of Empress Maria Theresia. The baroque palace finally became the summer resi-dence of the Austrian Imperial House.

KEYNOTE

10:00 - 10:30 a.m.Programme Overview: What awaits you on the Second Day of the 19th BOC Strategic Partner Meeting

Robert Strobl (Senior Management Consultant), BOC Group

With the start of the second day of the conference, you will receive a brief summary of the topics presented so far and an outlook on what to expect at the 19th BOC Strategic Partner Meeting. Exciting presentations will be complemented by parallel tool demos and a panel discussion.

09:15 - 10:00 a.m.How does Digitalisation influence our Environment?

o. Univ. Prof. Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing. Dimitris Karagiannis (Head of Research Group), University of Vienna, Research Group Knowledge Engineering & OMiLAB

Technological advances in the area of Internet of Things, like additive manufacturing, blockchain, and the evolution of connectivity into a generic platform and pervasive environment enable a new way to create, provide and consume products and digital services. Digitalised deployment models offer time-and location-independent access to services for a worldwide group of users.

Digitalised models are designed for round-the-clock availability and rely on loosely coupled ecosystems assuming that their supporting IT-architecture matches. Connectivity created in this way allows the sharing of knowledge, which can then be quickly transformed using these digital technologies in a single step manufacturing process at low costs. Subsequently digital services can be piled on the product and enable a new and innovative operational model. All of the above is expected to take place in the digital transformation process. Is it really feasible this way?

Michael Baldauf (Head of Efficiency and Process Management), Raiffeisenverband Salzburg eGenChristophe Makni (Head of Process Management), Basler KantonalbankRobert Strobl (Senior Management Consultant), BOC Group

Agile concepts and methods have been successfully used in software development for several years. Agile software development is characterised by self-organised teams and it tries to get along with little bureaucratic effort and rules. In this open forum, experts from our customer base and the BOC Group will discuss whether "agility" and "process management" conflict with each other and what an integration might look like.

Michael Baldauf (Head of Efficiency and Process Management), Raiffeisenverband Salzburg eGen

This lecture deals with the experience of the Raiffeisenverband Salzburg in the process of change from a “classic hierarchy” to more “agility”. Referring to that, the success factors will be explained and the speaker will give some insight on the sort of things that could go wrong. The lecture will highlight the fact that there is no contradiction between “structure” and “agility”.

12:40 - 01:25 p.m.Austrian Medicines Verification System – We make it safe! National organisation in the European context, project, process-oriented Quality Management, IT system and rollout

Andreas Achrainer (Managing Director), AMVS – Austrian Medicines Verification System GmbHCathrin Wimmer (Quality Manager), AMVS – Austrian Medicines Verification System GmbH

AMVS GmbH (Austrian Medicines Verification System GmbH) operates a data storage and retrieval system which stores all prescription medicines that are marketed in Austria. Together with all EU member states, the EEA and Switzerland, this data storage is connected to a central EU hub. Each medicine package can be identified by a unique code. This is to ensure that no counterfeit medicines can be smuggled into the legal supply chain. This lecture explains this EU-wide introductory project and addresses the aspects of process and quality management in conjunction with the underlying IT infrastructure.
