Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been cauht in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, “Teacher, his woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he bent down and wrote on the ground. And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said , “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” John 8:1-11

From the Desk of Father Bosco Dear Friends, Thomas Alva Edison was not only a famous scientist but also a man of great vision and faith. He was a man who understood the vicissitudes of life and found ways to bring victory from what others might see as defeat. One day in December, 1914, his laboratory where all of his life’s work had been done, containing his notes, equipment and many of the contraptions he had created or was working to create, caught fire and burned to the ground. At the height of the fire,

Edison’s son Charles commented, “My heart ached for my father. He was 67, no longer young, and the work of his life was going up in flames before his very eyes.” The next morning Edison surveyed the damage and commented, “There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.” Three weeks after the fire, Edison delivered the first phonograph. A significant invention literally sprang from the ashes of defeat. The Judeans, St. Paul and the woman in today’s Gospel all knew defeat, but they were able to right their lives and make new beginnings. It’s never too late to start afresh. May God continue to bless all of you with plenty of grace the rest of this Lent.

OUR CALL TO STEWARDSHIP “For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ…” (Philippians 3:8) The first commandment says that we shall not put other gods before the Lord. Detaching ourselves from material possessions and considering them “rubbish” does just that. It strengthens our relationship with Jesus and allows us to live more freely and joyfully.

LENTEN REGULATIONS Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in lent and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to this regulation may eat only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. These minimal penitential practices should not be lightly excused.

Lenten Ecumenical Services March 16—Holy Rosary Church; Living Stations. A light supper will be available at the church basement from 5:30-6:30pm with the Stations beginning at 6:30pm.

Next weekend the Endowment Committee (John & Phyllis Sonsalla, Irma Wiegel, Leon Wolfe, Jim Martin, Bob Larson, Bob Boyle and Bill McDaniel) will be sponsoring the $1 Challenge in support of the Endowment Fund.
