The Great San Francisco Earthquake was a seism that hit the city of San Francisco, California, and the bay of Oakland, in mid-April 1906. It was followed by a terrible fire, which killed more people than the earthquake itself.

• The earthquake lasted about one minute, but the effects were even felt in Los Angeles.
• And because of some mistakes of the firefighters, more than 30 different fires started all over the city.

• More than 3,000 people died, and about 250,000 others lost their houses.
THE REBUILDING San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, bigger and
more spacious, and only nine years later the International Exposition was celebrated.
