The Great San Francisco Earthquake was a seism that hit the city of San Francisco, California, and the bay of Oakland, in mid-April 1906. It was followed by a terrible fire, which killed more people than the earthquake itself.

• The earthquake lasted about one minute, but the effects were even felt in Los Angeles.
