Hi Everyone, A s I write this last newsleer piece for term two, I am aware that today is the winter solsce, so happy about that because now we are on the uphill run to summer. It has been a really, busy term and you will all be receiving progress reports for your child at the end of next week, as well as the much loved goal books. Please remember that the goal books are designed to be shared as a story-book with your child. They are a reflecon of their learning journey and a reminder to them about their learning goals. We will be providing you with the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress at SSG meengs early in term three. At this me we will also be asking for input into reviewed goals and where appropriate to formulate independence goals, to be achieved at home. Parents are oſten very surprised as to how much their child can do for themselves when they come to SSG meengs. We have a strategic plan goal to promote independence and with a home/school partnership you can help us achieve this goal. We have a senior school camp seng off to Forest Edge in August and I commend the camps program to the senior students’ families. Camps provide students with a wonderful opportunity to experience and cope with change, to develop their independence skills and to have a great deal of fun trying new/different acvies with their friends outside of a school seng. Our teachers, therapists and ES staff put their hearts and souls into providing these worthwhile educaonal programs for our students. Please support them by sending your child to camp. If cost is an issue I would remind you that we have payment plans and other opons, you just need to call me to discuss these opons. I hope your holidays are happy and safe and that you manage to stay warm and dry. See you in term 3. Hi Everyone,

A s I write this last newsletter piece for term two, I am aware that today is the winter solstice, so happy about

that because now we are on the uphill run to summer.

It has been a really, busy term and you will all be receiving progress reports for your child at the end of next

week, as well as the much loved goal books. Please remember that the goal books are designed to be shared as a

story-book with your child. They are a reflection of their learning journey and a reminder to them about their learning

goals.

We will be providing you with the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress at SSG meetings early in term

three. At this time we will also be asking for input into reviewed goals and where appropriate to formulate

independence goals, to be achieved at home. Parents are often very surprised as to how much their child can do for

themselves when they come to SSG meetings. We have a strategic plan goal to promote independence and with a

home/school partnership you can help us achieve this goal.

We have a senior school camp setting off to Forest Edge in August and I commend the camps program to the

senior students’ families.

Camps provide students with a wonderful opportunity to experience and cope with change, to develop their

independence skills and to have a great deal of fun trying new/different activities

with their friends outside of a school setting.

Our teachers, therapists and ES staff put their hearts and souls into

providing these worthwhile educational programs for our students. Please

support them by sending your child to camp. If cost is an issue I would remind

you that we have payment plans and other options, you just need to call me to

discuss these options.

I hope your holidays are happy and safe and that you manage to stay

warm and dry.

See you in term 3.

Cheers Sue

M usic Therapy uses music to develop life skills in our students at

Dandy Valley. The focus is on developing skills that enable students

to engage with others, communicate effectively and act independently in

their world. Music is very motivating to most of our students and is a fun

way of learning. We have many eager participants in music therapy

programs designed to meet the needs of each individual student.

Yukuan is on leave this year so Kate is our music therapist for 2017.

Here are some happy faces from students in their music therapy sessions.

WHAT IS STEPPING STONES

TRIPLE P?

Why would I attend this

parenting program?

F or parents of children with a disability,

everyday issues come with extra challenges. But now, the Stepping Stones Triple P

parenting program is here to give parents the support they need.

From mealtime tantrums to supermarket meltdowns, from bedtime dramas to

outright disobedience, Stepping Stones Triple P helps parents sort through the issues that

affect families of children with disabilities.

Stepping Stones gives parents the skills they need to raise happy and confident

children, manage misbehaviour and developmental issues, and prevent problems from

happening in the first place.

Stepping Stones is like a toolbox of great ideas. Parents choose the tools they need

for their own situation- allowing them to create better relationships with their children,

solve problems and become a more confident parent.

Also, Stepping Stones gives parents just the right amount of help they need.

Stepping Stones is part of the Triple P– Positive Parenting Program, which is one of the

few parenting programs with evidence to show it works. Research shows Stepping Stones

reduces child behaviour problems and lowers parent stress levels- so that everyone can

enjoy life more.

Dandenong Valley SDS is offering all EEP & Junior School parents

the opportunity to attend this FREE PROGRAM

Tuesday Mornings in Term 3.

This is our third year offering the program to our parents. We would love you to join us.

Please get in touch with Kate Jemison or Fiona Donald at Dandenong Valley SDS if you
