SECONDARY CROSS
COUNTRY
Three of our secondary
students performed well in the
Riverina Cross Country in
Gundagai on Friday
14 June 2012.
Zachary Love, Hannah Collins
and Corey Whitmore all
qualified for the State Cross
Country event which will be
held in Eastern Creek in July.
Well done to these students.
We are in the last fortnight of term and I must say that it has felt like a term full of all sorts of
events.
We have had visits from Coolamon Central School, Tumut High School, Wagga Wagga High School
and Kooringal High School and our debaters have really acquitted themselves well. Congratulations
to all those involved and to Miss O'Loughlan and Miss Tofa for their background work with these
teams. Thank you also to Mrs Cooper and Mrs Leeson for their adjudication of debates.
We have had a number of students achieve selection for state competition in the last week and
they also need to be congratulated on their efforts as well.
I have had the great pleasure to read reports for students in Kindergarten to Year 10 over the last
fortnight and I have been very pleased to read about the really positive advances being made by the
overwhelming majority of students in our school. The HOW2Learn dispositions are really impacting
across the curriculum and building the capacity of our students and staff.
One of the things that has come up in reading reports, is the importance of students being at school
and in class as often as is possible, and when in class the need to complete all set learning to best of
one's ability.
I would also like to reinforce the notion of deadlines, particularly with reference to excursion
payments. The school doesn't impose such deadlines to create difficulties but to enhance and
improve our organisation. If for some reason you feel you can't meet such a deadline you should
contact me at the school, however, I will reinforce once again no monies will be accepted for extra-
curricula activities after the due date unless a prior arrangement has been made.
I have to inform the community that unfortunately we had insufficient support for our proposed
2014 Japanese trip and therefore we will not proceed at this stage. We will investigate offering
another EOI at a later date.
The “Scoop” is available through our website, the school app and via email and we are a little
concerned about the number that we print. Elsewhere in his edition we are requesting information
from those who still wish to receive a hard copy of “Scoop”. It is our intention to only print copies
of “Scoop” for those who request it directly by returning the relevant slip.
Please enjoy what remains of the term, have a relaxing winter break and we will look forward to
seeing you all again next term.

The capacity to learn is a gift;
The ability to learn is a skill;
The willingness to learn is a choice.
Resourcefulness is when learners are ready, willing and able to choose and use
resources wisely... Know what to do, when they don’t know what to do.
Resourcefulness might look like making connections or asking a friend when playing games or learning about
something tricky.

OFFICE NEWS CHANGE TO STUDENT INFORMATION
Information sheets have been sent out to parents in regards to any changes to address, telephone and
mobile phone numbers, contact details. If your circumstances have changed please alter on the sheet sent
home and we will adjust our records at school.
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND SUBJECT/MATERIAL FEES

is attached with this scoop and also available on our school website.
“SCOOP” GOES ELECTRONIC
The distribution of scoop to parents and community has been examined as part of an on-going process at our
school. Please see the information on the last page of this “Scoop” and return the slip to the office if
necessary.
KINDERGARTEN 2014 INFORMATION SESSION TUESDAY 25 JUNE 2013 An information session and afternoon tea for all parents and children enrolling their child at school in 2014
will be held on Tuesday 25 June 2013 at 4.00 pm. We look forward to discussing the wonderful opportunities
that we can provide for your child at Batlow Technology School.
This week we will be learning about
different foods from New Zealand. In
our kitchen classes, we will be making
Kumara Soup.
Capitalise... Come prepared with
some knowledge you have found out
about New Zealand. Let’s learn from
each other!
ENGLISH NEWS
The last month has been a busy one for the English/Drama department.
Drama students from Years 9 and 10 travelled to Sydney to watch a
performance called “Forget me not” at Belvoir Theatre. Belvoir is situated
in the heart of the city and is one of Australia’s innovative and acclaimed
theatre companies. Belvoir gave the students a tour of the theatre and
students had the opportunity to ask the actors question after the show.
Abbie Melrose competed in the Sydney Morning Herald Public Speaking competition
in Albury. She did a great job with her speech educating her audience about diabetes.
Congratulations to all students who represented themselves, the school and
community with pride.
The senior debating team have completed all their rounds of the
Premier Debating Challenge for 2013. The students did an amazing job
at speaking and rebutting arguments throughout the competition.
Jessica Boxsell, Lilly Kirkby, Sjoukje Vanderland and Erin Cotsios have
been debating together since Year 7 and should be commended for
hard work, dedication and commitment.
