Welcome Back
It was pleasing to see everyone back at school
last week looking so fit and refreshed. I would
like to extend a warm welcome to the new
students, and their families that have enrolled
at Sadleir.
Staffing News
This term we welcome back Mrs Ma from
maternity leave. She will be with us two days a
week (Wednesday and Thursday) in the
Learning and Support position. Mrs Murray
will continue in this role each Monday and
Tuesday.
As well, this Friday will be Mrs Foldes last day
at Sadleir. She has been offered, and
subsequently accepted, a new position in rural
NSW. I thank Mrs Foldes for her work at
Sadleir and wish her all the best at her new
school.
Selective High School 2015
Information on selective high school
placement in 2015 has now arrived at school.
Year 5 parents with children considering this
option are asked to contact the school
immediately. While the department prefers
the online application process, parents who do
not have internet access may submit a paper
application. All applications must be
completed by Friday 18 November.
The selective high school test will be held on
Thursday 13 March, 2014.
Wooglemai Camp
I am pleased to report that the Year 3 & 4
camp at Wooglemai Environmental Education
Centre near Oakdale was again a great
success. Everyone seemed to have a great
time and they were all kept busy participating
in activities including archery, bushwalking,
bike riding, the high ropes course, initiative
games and spot lighting.
Thank you to Ms Foldes for her outstanding
organisation and to Mr Scully and Miss D’Costa
for their never ending support and hard work.
I am quite sure that like most of the children,
all the teachers will have slept very well last
night.
NAPLAN
Results for students in Year 3 and Year 5 who
sat the NAPLAN test in May were sent home
today. Please contact the school if you did not
receive this information or if you have any
queries.
Preschool 2014
Preschool enrolments for 2013 are now being

2014, and you intend to start them in
Kindergarten in 2015, please come and pick up
an application form.
Kindergarten Orientation
Our Kindergarten Orientation program for
students commencing in 2014 will be held on
the following dates this term:
Thursday 14 November
Thursday 21 November
Thursday 28 November
Letters, including an invitation and further
details have been sent home this week.
If your child will be starting Kindergarten next
year, and has not already enrolled, please
contact the school as soon as possible to
ensure they are included in this important
program.
If you have any questions regarding
Kindergarten in 2014 please do not hesitate to
call the school on 9607 8201.
Quadrant Lane
Liverpool Council has now finished improving
the facilities near the back gate in Quadrant
Lane. The new footpaths and layback will
make the area not only safer for everyone but
easier to access for those with prams and
strollers.
Stewart House
Spring is here so now is a good time to clean
out your wardrobes and cupboards and gather
together all the old clothes which you no
longer have need for and donate them to
Stewart House.
Stewart House has a proud history providing
short term respite care for public school
students in need of a break from their current
circumstance. Through the generosity of
schools, teachers, individuals, organisations
and corporations, Stewart House has been
able to cater for over 150,000 children since it
opened in 1931.
Stewart House is a not for profit organisation
and is the official charity of the Department of
Education and Communities. Last year the
clothing appeal raised in excess of $30,000.
A Stewart House bag was sent home last week
with your child. Clothing donations must be
returned by Thursday 24 October.
School Swimming Scheme
The School Swimming Scheme is not far away
and places are filling fast. For 10 consecutive
days students can receive expert tuition from
qualified instructors at the Michael Wenden
Centre, Miller. If your child is in Year 2 or
above, and they are not a confident swimmer,
I strongly recommend this program to you.

Performing Arts Assembly
Every year our dance and choir groups
represent Sadleir Public School at the Western
Liverpool Festival of Performing Arts. Their
talent and success is commendable and we
will be celebrating their achievements at an
upcoming assembly. On Thursday 24th
October 2013 we welcome all parents,
caregivers and friends to the Sadleir
Performing Arts Assembly, beginning at
2:15pm. The assembly will be held in the
school hall and will showcase performances by
the Junior and Senior Dance Groups and the
2013 Choir.
Bandana Day
The Senior SRC will be selling bandanas at
lunchtime and afternoon tea in Week 3(Oct 21
to 24) to raise money for CanTeen.
CanTeen is the only organisation of its kind
supporting 12-24 year olds who are living with
cancer. Through a wide range of free
programs, services and resources, CanTeen
encourages young people to share their
experiences, make great friends and of course,
have fun!
Bandanas are $4.00 and pens are $3.00. All
funds raised will support these vital services
offered by CanTeen.

Students in KP are doing lots of ‘hands on’ work in Literacy
and Numeracy. Here are some of the things they have been
working on recently.
