The Italian furniture market follows its very own ideas and rules. Italian

design is elegant and timeless – while simultaneously reflecting a high

capacity to innovate and a love of experimentation. It is not without

good reason that new furniture trends are continually being set in Italy.

When it comes to turning their high aspirations into reality, Italian

furniture manufacturers need the partnership of strong suppliers who

understand their needs, offer the right products and are able to work

with them to develop new solutions.

Over the years, GRASS has become a strong partner for the Italian

market. With its new sales subsidiary in Pordenone, GRASS is expanding

its competencies and has increased its proximity to the heart of Italian

furniture design. Top-quality hinge, flap, drawer, slide and corner ca-

binet systems from GRASS are an elementary component of any piece

of furniture, enhancing its added value and enabling product differen-

tiation. At SICAM, the company will be presenting its broad spectrum of

Unlimited scope for design plus top functionality

thanks to the new hinge generation Tiomos

“The Italian furniture designer is versatile and likes to experiment. So a

wide range of materials are used, for example, when designing kitchen

fronts. Irrespective of size, weight and materials, we have the right

hinge for every piece of furniture. Thanks to its unique kinematics,

Tiomos can be used to achieve the kind of overlay and reveal dimen-

sions which the manufacturer could previously only obtain with several

different hinge versions. Another advantage is being able to adjust the

damper to suit the weight of the door. One of the major features of our

product series is the fact that integrated damping is not available for

just a few types but for the complete product range. This has met with a

very enthusiastic response which is reflected in the growing demand,”

explains Marco Müller, Chairman of GRASS Italia.

Tiomos is not a further development of an existing hinge but a com-

pletely new conception – which has definitely got what it takes and is

currently the best possible movement solution worldwide for furniture

doors. One of the outstanding features of Tiomos is the way in which the

steplessly adjustable Soft-close damper is totally concealed inside the

hinge arm. For cabinet doors with an opening angle of 20° and above,

Tiomos provides an even and absolutely smooth closing movement,

irrespective of size and weight. The novel kinematics provides the basis

for extremely easy door opening and also enables unprecedented

alignment with minimum gaps. The manufacturer has different Tiomos

versions to choose from. A new addition is the hinge for thick doors, in

keeping with the trend towards heavy, genuine wood fronts.

In response to the rising demand, GRASS will be expanding capacity

with the addition of another two Tiomos production lines by the end of

2012. “We’re absolutely spot on with Tiomos. In the countries where

Tiomos has already been launched we have seen rising demand ever

since. That speaks for itself. We’re delighted that we shall be able to

expand our production capacity by the end of the year. That means

being able to service more enquiries without significant waiting times,”

reports Ronald Weber, Chairman of the Board at GRASS.

Growing desire for top-quality movement systems

in living rooms and bedrooms also evident

Up to now, GRASS has worked primarily with kitchen and bathroom

manufacturers in Italy. In future, the company will be increasing the

focus on the living room and bedroom segments. “A high level of move-

ment comfort and optimal use of the available space are becoming in-

creasingly important in living room and bedroom applications in Italy.

That means a growing emphasis on top-quality movement systems for

the furniture in these areas,” explains Giuseppe Paccagnella, General

Manager of GRASS Italia.

Needless to say, Tiomos will not be the only product for the Italian

market on show at SICAM. Others will include the corner cabinet so-

lution Quaturis S, which is very popular in Italy, and the double-wall

drawer systems which are also bestsellers thanks to the wide range of

options. “There are no compromises in the premium furniture segment.
