One son Caden was me-di-flighted to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment and the other son was taken by land ambulance, accord-ing to a family Facebook posting.

The Facebook posting by the boys’ mother said Jason may or may not have a bro-ken left wrist.

“By the time we got him to leave the boys’ side to get checked out, the swelling was too much to see for sure (if there were breaks). He is very sore and will be more sore as the day goes on.”

Mrs. Gundlach expressed thanks in her posting to Loyal and Kingfisher Fire Departments for their assis-tance at the scene.

Peggy Sue Inge, age 87, of Okarche, Oklahoma went to her heavenly home on April 23, 2016.

She was born on November 25, 1928, in Prague, Oklahoma. Peg was raised in the historic Paseo District of Oklahoma City.

She graduated high school at Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1946 and went on to attend Oklahoma A & M.

She married Richard Dean Inge. During his military career they lived in many military posts throughout the United States. Peg’s favorite places were Germany and Alaska.

Peg moved from Atchison, KS, to Okarche in 1997. She volunteered as a cook at St. John’s Lutheran School for about 10 years. She loved finding special recipes and treats for the children and they all loved her!

She is survived by one daughter, Diana Luber, and husband Terry, of Okarche, OK; two sons, Ronnie Inge and wife Evelyn of Morrison, TN; and David Inge of Okarche, OK; one sister Annabelle Taylor of Clinton, OK; two granddaughters, one grandson, seven great- grandsons; one great- granddaughter, one damn cat, Missy, and her “porch party” gang.

One of her greatest loves was having family and friends over for “tasting” and “front porch” parties. Peg loved to feed and watch her birds, but her greatest love was reading books.

The family would like to thank St. Catherine’s Assisted Living Center, Russell Murray Hospice, her doctors and nurses, and a special thank you to Linda Sewell for always being the one to work her special magic with her care-giving.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Center of Family Love Group Homes.

Services will be held Thursday, April 28, at 10 a.m. at Okarche Baptist Church, under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service, with interment to follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Okarche.

By Mike BrakeA recent SoonerPoll

survey asked three interesting questions about higher education in Oklahoma.

The Chancellor of Higher Ed makes more than $411,000 a year. Is this too much? Eighty percent said it was.

Could our public colleges and universities be run more efficiently? Eighty-two percent said they either strongly or somewhat agree they could.

Should professors be paid by how much they teach, or how many hours they dedicate to non-teaching activities? Seventy-nine percent said teachers should earn their pay by teaching.

Contrast those public views with the whining and poor-mouthing that flows from higher education leaders every year. In 2014, University of Oklahoma President David Boren complained that “I just don’t know how our schools and universities will survive.” He should read OCPA’s 2014 report on how money is spent at our two flagship universities, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.

Across the nation, higher education staffing per student declined by 10 percent between 1999 and 2011. In Oklahoma, staffing per student rose by five percent. Clearly we have not been spending our higher education dollars efficiently.

Worst of all, that study found that large numbers of well-paid faculty members at both universities were spending little or no time in the classroom. So great is this disparity that at first glance most observers would say, “That can’t be true!” But it is.

At OSU, the busiest 20 percent of faculty members were teaching 54.49 percent of credit hours. Simply put, the busiest one-fifth of the faculty teaches more credit hours than the other four-fifths combined.

At OU, the average student credit hour teaching load for a faculty member is 143. That’s less than 50 students being taught by a typical faculty member per year, or 24 per semester. The busiest 20 percent of faculty members teach 60 percent of total enrollment. About 500 of OU’s 2,018 faculty members teach more than half of all classes.

"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

—Ephesians 4:26-27Thoughts on

Today's Verse...Pent up anger is an

explosion waiting to happen. Sooner or later, the pent up frustration will explode, either in our own life or into the life of someone else. Jesus taught us to forgive and to reconcile (Matthew 18). Anger must be dealt with. Otherwise the devil will use it to abuse us as well as others in our lives. Don't give him a foothold in your life. If you give him an inch (2.54 cm), he'll take a mile (1.61 km)!

My Prayer...Father in heaven, thank

you for the ability to get angry at the things that anger you. Please help me channel that emotion in ways that are productive and help me to be repulsed at evil. Please stir my heart to reconciliation, especially when that anger is against one of your children. By the power of your Holy Spirit, help me to forgive as you have forgiven me. In the name of Jesus, my Lord, I pray. Amen.

DAVE $AYS: withDave Ramsey

Dear Dave,I know when it comes

to investing you like mutu-al funds and paid-for real estate. What do you think about using condomini-ums as investment proper-ties instead of single-family homes?

- JasonDear Jason,

I don’t really have a prob-lem with condos as paid-for invest-m e n t s . I own a couple of them my-self. When i t comes to making this kind of invest-ment for t h e f i r s t time, how-e v e r , I would advise that you keep a few things in mind.

Based on equal price and equal neighborhood, the average single-family home will probably increase more in value over the years. Now, a nice, well-placed condo will obviously go up in value faster than a traditional house in a lesser neighborhood. So speaking in an overall sense, they’re not bad investments if you do your homework.

You have to think about what you’re getting into and also take into consideration a number of variables. What are the HOA dues or condo fees going to be? Is the condo association being managed well? That and the neigh-borhood are the two biggest concerns I have when buy-ing a condo. A lot of condo associations are very poorly managed. And if they don’t provide proper maintenance or keep a certain percentage of the complex owner-occu-pied versus rental, the condo association or complex can lose the ability to get normal permanent financing. If they can’t get FHA, VA or conven-tional financing, the values are going to drop like a rock — because you’ve only got cash buyers and investment buyers at that point.

Research on these kinds of things doesn’t take an awful lot of work. Just call the management company, and the realtor who’s involved if it’s listed, and ask for the documentation. Most of the time this sort of stuff is pub-lic information, so it’s not hard to access. Some other questions you might ask are: What are the reserves for the roof? What are the reserves for paint and the parking lot? Are they collecting enough to pay their bills, and are they actually paying their bills?

Then you start looking at things from a buyer’s per-spective. Would I want to live in here and have my wife and children here? Would a normal, reasonable person want to live here? If the an-swers are yes, then you’ve probably got a good, solid condo complex.

— Dave

Kay’s hands were around Mallory’s neck at one point.

Maddox testified McKay eventually emerged from the cell and told the other inmates that Mallory had hanged himself.

Maddox, a former para-medic, testified he went into the cell to check Malllory’s vital signs and he was dead, lying face down with his neck tied to the prison bars with what appeared to be the hem or collar of a T-shirt.

Maddox testified he had seen McKay tearing up a T-shirt earlier in the day.

William Frankovich, a law librarian at the state prison in Lexington, testified at the hearing that McKay ad-mitted to him that he killed Mallory and tried to make it look like a suicide.

Frankovich testified that McKay told him that he had been drugging Mallory with prescription drugs and he hoped to cause him to over-dose.

McKay told Frankovich that he had fought with Mal-lory earlier in the day and that Mallory’s death was an accident that got out of hand and he just meant to choke Mallory out and not kill him, according to Frankovich’s testimony.

McKay is scheduled for formal arraignment May 12.

Kingfisher County Assis-tant District Attorney Eric Epplin and Garfield County ADA Paul Hesse represented the state at Monday’s hear-ing, while McKay was rep-resented by court-appointed attorney Blayne Allsup.

The Oklahoma State De-partment of Health is observ-ing the celebration of Nation-al Infant Immunization Week this week.

Hundreds of communi-ties across the U.S. will unite with countries around the world to highlight the suc-cess of vaccines in protecting the health of children, fami-lies and communities.

National Infant Immuni-zation Week is a reminder that each vaccine given to a child has an impact on

a much larger scale, with benefits extending to the community, state, country and the entire world.

Each dose of vaccine has the potential to save the lives of children now and those of future generations here and abroad. As more diseases are eradicated by vaccines, all children born will be automatically protected and these diseases will no longer be a threat.

By countries working together, smallpox was erad-icated from the world with a vaccine and public health officials are close to wiping out polio.

The last U.S. polio epidem-ic dates back to 1952 when more than 21,000 Americans were paralyzed by the polio virus, many permanently.

In 2015, there were only 96 cases of polio in the world, and the disease could be entirely gone within the next few years.

The World Health Orga-

Walter Hux

nization estimates that since 1988, 1.5 million lives have been saved and 13 million people are able to walk today because of the public health push to eradicate polio.

Although many diseases are rare in the U.S., they are still common in many parts of the world and can be brought to the U.S. by indi-viduals traveling from other countries.

Vaccines are available for all children through the federal Vaccines for Children program or through private health insurance.

All county health depart-ments, along with many private health care providers in Oklahoma, participate in the Vaccines for Children program.

For more information about childhood vacci-nations, contact the local County Health Department or visit the OSDH website at: https://www.ok.gov/health/.
