POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT POLICY – UPDATE

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year, a focus for our school has been to update our Positive

Behaviour Support Policy with support of members from our

School Board. To ensure all members of Holy Spirit Catholic

Primary School are informed and updated, information will be

provided through our weekly newsletter explaining policy and

procedures in place.

We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as

a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom

teachers or members of school leadership for clarification as

required.

Kind Regards,

Paula Sellars

Deputy Principal

Positive Behaviour Update 6:

Reflection Sheet

There may be occasions during learning time, in the playground

or at Out School Hours Care (OSHC) that your child may be

asked to complete a Reflection Sheet. This is an opportunity for

your child to have some quiet time to record in their words what

has occurred.

The Reflection Sheet has three main questions:

What happened?

What would have been a better choice? Who have you upset?

What can I do now to make things right?

A record of this is kept on file at school, and depending on na-

ture of incident may be sent home for parent/carers signature as

well as acknowledgement of receipt.

This reflection sheet may be used when a student is sent to their

Buddy Class for a short break or where the behaviour exhibited

does not align with our Positive Behaviour Support Agreed

Practices.

Next week – Positive Behaviour Support Agreed Practices PUZZLE MASTER #13

THEMES OF MERCY The Year of Mercy that Pope Francis proclaimed last year con-

cludes this November. Mercy is the most fundamental and defin-

ing attribute of God, revealed through God’s actions throughout

the Old Testament and most notably, in the person of Jesus

Christ in the New Testament.

Mercy as Compassion for Ourselves

Mercy as Compassion for Neighbors

Mercy as Compassion for Our World

Mercy as Compassion for Creation

Mercy as Compassion for Our World

We sometimes reduce Christian love to a warm and fuzzy feel-

ing. Certainly, our Christian communities need to be character-

ized by warmth and hospitality. However, Christian love should

not be reduced to superficial displays of affection. It is important

for us to remember that, when Jesus said, “By this everyone will

know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,” (John

13:35) he did so after washing the feet of his disciples—a work

of mercy. When Roman citizens began taking notice of the early

Christian community, saying, “See how they love one anoth-

er!” (as reported by Tertullian, a Christian theologian of the late

second and early third centuries), they were referring to the acts

of selfless love and mercy that Christians were showing for one

another, especially to those in need. Our call to show mercy to

others does not stop at offering charity to those in need but ex-

tends even to our efforts to create a more just society that shows

mercy to all of its members, especially the most vulnerable.

How does Christian love sometimes get reduced to something

superficial?

What are examples of Christians seeking to make society and

its institutions more merciful?

NO SCHOOL Mr Duffy and Mrs Sellars

CONGRATULATIONS! Last week at Parliament House Holy Spirit won the Award for

Outstanding Education and Care Service in Out of School

Hours Care at the NT Education and Care awards.

This award was open to all Out of School Hours Care centres in

the NT of which there are over 50. This is the second year in a

row the school has won this award.

TIMOR TRIP 2016 Over the holiday break, Mrs. Julia Gaio and myself travelled to

Timor Leste along with members from other Catholic schools

across the Northern Territory. The trip was a one week oppor-

tunity to work and teach with local teachers and leaders provid-

ing some professional development in education. We were lucky

to visit a range of Primary and Secondary schools. Mrs Julia is

from Timor Leste and was able to translate between English and

Tetum. All participants from the NT found the experience ex-

tremely rewarding, eye opening and

humbling, with learning going both

ways between the cultures. This expe-

rience was supported and coordinated

by the Diocese of Northern Territory

and the Catholic Education Office.

Students are eagerly preparing for our Holy Spirit Mission Market Day, to be held on Friday, October 28th, from 11am – 12.30pm.

gold coin donation, they may also dress in casual clothes for the day.

This is a fundraiser as part of World Mission Month and an excellent way for students to reach out to others in need. All money

raised will go directly to Catholic Missions, who work with children in over 160 countries worldwide.

Below is a list of the exciting activities that we have in store! We are asking for your help by donating any items that your child’s

class may require on the day.
