Municipality shortly after the presentation.

After hosting a successful In-ter-Municipal Sports of South Africa (IMSSA Limpopo) games this year, Musina Mu-nicipality received various awards during a special event at the Musina Council Cham-bers.

The awards ceremony was spearheaded by the provincial executive committee of IMSSA Limpopo.

Those who managed to receive awards in the form of trophies are Mayor Mihloti Ramoyada,

Chief Whip Simon Madamalala, Municipal Manager Johnson Matshivha, Cllr Bigboy Ndou and Palakatshela Peta.

The local organizing commit-tee members were awarded certif-icates as a token of appreciation, namely Gift Mulaudzi, Mercy Ndlovu, Lilian Muleya, Pertunia Siko, Kenneth Avhatendi, Ber-nice Managa, Suzan Mukhwa, Newton Manyuma, Nyarai Ngo-beli, Gift Munzhelele, Bon-gani Sithole, Duncan Manyuma, Lesedi Mokoena and Kelekwang

Chisanga. Cllr Madamalala ex-pressed his gratitude to repre-sentatives of IMSSA Limpopo and said the municipality saw the awards as motivation to do more.

"We take programmes that you run as IMSSA Limpopo very seriously as they allow our employees to exercise and stay fit. We believe that the tour-nament allows our employees across the province to foster relations amongst themselves,” Madamalala said.

Well-known musician Bamba shows pupils the Rolling up the Hill exhibit during the exhibition and festival. With him are scientists Livhuwani Masevhe (left) and Khamusi Mutoti (right).

Pupils from schools around the Vhembe district had a rare chance to interact and network with experts and compa-nies involved in the sciences.

The annual event, hosted by the Science Tube Science Exhibition and festival in conjunction with the Department of Higher Education, was held at the Tho-hoyandou Indoor Centre in Limpopo. It's the brainchild of three young scientists: Livhuwani Masevhe,Vincent Mulaudzi and Khamusi Mutoti.

Outlining the purpose of the week-long event, Khamusi Mutoti said the idea came out of the experiences they had as people who came from disadvantaged rural backgrounds.

“It was tough during our time,” he said. “We never had the chance to make career choices as we were not exposed to infor-mation. We just chose whatever came our way and some of us ended up regretting it. We do not want these children to go the same route we went during our student days,” he added.

“We are giving them guidance and we have roped in experts and role players in the field of science. We have also invited companies that would give them first-hand information about the sciences.”

He said they were giving the pupils an opportunity to make an informed decision when it came to deciding on a lifelong career, after interacting with the experts.

Another organizer, Mr Livhuwani Ma-sevhe, said their involvement in Vhembe was bearing fruits.

“We have confirmation from the de-partment of education here in Vhembe, who have indicated that the results have improved since we started in 2010. We are humbled by the response. This is our humble contribution, and we will contin-ue doing so for the sake of our country,” he said.

Pupils who attended the festival said it was an eye-opener.

“We are from a very disadvantaged rural area where access to information is not possible,” said Idani Masimbane (15), a Grade 10 pupil at Bababa Secondary

School at Haluvhimbi.

“We have learnt a lot and we just hope that the information we got from here will assist us in making informed career choices and also apply on time at institu-tions that we would like to attend when the time comes,” Masimbane added.

Three killed in horrific accident on Levubu RoadHardly three weeks after the death of Mpho "Regalo" Gangashe and his mother Tshilidzi, Vhembe lost three more lives in another horrible car accident.

The Ramabulana twins, Tshilidzi Richard and Tshifhiwa Yolanda Ramabulana (34), and their neighbour, Thendo Dagada (30), died in an accident between Louis Trichardt and Levubu on 31 May.

According to the family spokesperson, Pastor Seth Dagada, the victims were on their way from Gauteng to their homes at Tshaulu, when they were allegedly distracted by two cars that were towing each other. "They supposedly swayed to the right to pass the two vehicles and crashed into an oncoming truck. The truck hit them from the side and dragged them for some distance.”

The three died at the scene, at Gondonabada, while the driver, Mr Ramaano Netshivhambe,

Thendo's husband, survived with serious injuries.

At the time of going to press, Netshivhambe was said to be still in a critical condition at the Polokwane MediClinic.

Thendo, who is a royal, was buried on Friday at Guyuni, at their sacred burial site while the Ramabulana twins were buried at Tshaulu on Sat-urday morning.

No municipal services at Mutale Local MunicipalityThe services and working of employees at the troubled Mutale Local Municipality came to a standstill on Thursday last week as workers resolved to picket as a way of forcing the man-agement to implement the salary scale adjust-ment as agreed to by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

They also demand the immediate removal of the municipal manager, Mr Shumani Razwiedani, accusing him of dragging his feet in making the salary adjustment. The employees came to work in the morning as usual, but they downed tools and said they would not go to work unless their salaries were adjusted.

The chairperson of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) at the municipality, Mr Colbert Nempumbuluni, said they were worried

that the management of the municipality was not implementing the new salary adjustment . He added that, according to the new task scale from SALGA, which was adopted by municipalities countrywide in April 2011, municipalities were required to apply the adjustment, which will result in the grading of posts.

“We decided to start picketing and we are still in the process of negotiating with the management on the fi nalizing of the issue, while the workers are still picketing.”

Mutale’s mayor, Sarah Rammbuda, who spent Monday and Tuesday locked in discussions with the representatives of SAMWU, said they were doing all they could to resolve the matter, so that workers could go back to work as normal. “Despite that fact that our municipality is rurally based

and doesn’t have better assets to address service delivery, we are doing all we can to deliver better services to our people,” said Mayor Rammbuda.

It was reported that the Bale communities in Ward 11 near Ha-Manenzhe had also joined in the municipal picketing. According to them, they are being denied services by the Mutale Municipality and they have resolved to be part of Musina Mu-nicipality when the new demarcation board starts implanting the proposed merger.

In the beginning of this year, Mutale Munici-pality was reported to have sent back about R30 million meant to be used for delivering services to the communities to the National Treasury.

At the time of our going to press, working and service delivery in Mutale were still at a halt as workers were still picketing during the day.

A resident of Makhithi village in the Kutama area, Mr Elijah Liremi, was recently nominated as a finalist for two Edu awards. The winners will be announced during a ceremony at Midrand on 19 June. Liremi is the founder of the Liremi Foundation, an organisastion that helps pupils from the rural area with their studies and also provides them with career guidance. Liremi is nominated in two categories, African Edu and Environmental. According to him, he was surprised when he received an invitation to attend the ceremony as a nominee. He added that he was very thankful to Messrs Norman Kutama and Christopher Mudau, who helped him financially. He said he was a happy man, because he helped many pupils from poor backgrounds around the Kutama area to register at different institutions of higher learning.

Ex-principal focuses on farming, writing and mentoringLiterary icon and prolific poet Mmbengwa Watson Mbula-heni (62) says teachers must continue to work harder and equip pupils with a solid foun-dation of education relevant for their future.

Mbulaheni was speaking for the second time after he had been given a fitting farewell by the Department of Education and his community after 34 years in the teaching profession.

“Teachers need to work harder, so we can have educated children who will continue to take further the aspirations of our country,” he said.

Mbulaheni started his pro-fession as a teacher at Khubvi Primary School in 1981. After six years, he was promoted to principal for Thenzheni Primary School at Thenzheni village.

“When I came to Thenzheni, there was no pupil, chair or classroom,” he remembered. “There was only one mud-brick

shelter which had been built by members of the community. The chief made a call for all parents to bring their children to the newly opened school.”

The determined, principled principal used an old 20-litre plastic bottle for a chair in his office, which was only a spot in one corner of the shelter.

Mbulaheni then sought finan-cial help to build 10 classrooms. He planted a lot of fruit trees in the schoolyard.

Today, even after he had left the school on pension after 28 years of hard, noble work, Then-zheni Primary is an institution of primary education in its own right.

“I will now focus on farm-ing, running my businesses and writing more books,” said Mbu-laheni, who recently published a collection of short stories, Zwa Tshitangani.

His other published works in-clude Mufandilani, Mushengeli,

Lwendo Lwa Mutshinyali, Mu-kosi wa Shango and Mutondi, among others.

A resident of Khubvi, Mbu-laheni remains a literary sage, mentoring young up-and-coming authors in the Tshivenda literary firmament.

In an interview with Limpopo Mirror last year, he mentioned that he made a break into author-ship when Sasabona accepted his poetry manuscript, Mushengeli, in 1989.

“It felt like I could fly to kiss the sky,” he recalled. “My mother couldn’t read, but I showed her the acceptance letter from my publisher and said, ‘See, Mma, I am getting published!’”

The world can only expect to see more and more literary works of high quality.

“Let the children come and drink from my well of knowl-edge, so that they too can become writers who tell our good and sad stories,” he said.

Still no proper house for disabled gogo (73)A 73-year-old disabled gogo of Siloam ward 33 within Makhado Municipality has been living in unbearable condi-tions since 2000 when her three-room mud house collapsed during the floods. Ms Johanah Chauke has been waiting for the RDP house that she was prom-ised but continues to scramble to find a decent roof over her head with her family.

The shack that she shares with her mother, children and grandchildren is so

flimsy it’s possible to see the sky from inside. “The corrugated iron on the roof leaks heavily and we find it very difficult to sleep when it rains. We remain seated until the early hours of the next day be-cause the floor becomes wet. Sometimes we are forced to make fire inside the hut just to keep ourselves warm,” she said.

She registered for an RDP house all the way back in 2004. Soon after, a bricklayer and sub-contractor came to survey her site and ordered her to clean

a place in her yard where the house could be built. “I need a house where I can stay with my family. I have made numerous pleas for assistance, but it seems we have been forgotten by the authorities.” No progress has been made. In fact, she was surprised to hear that her RDP house was given to another man at the same village. She said she thought she was being discriminated against because of her disability. In a similar story, resi-dent Ms Dorah Netshivhadzwaulu, who stays in the same ward in the village of Tshavhalovhedzi, remains in a dilapi-dated one-room house with six family members.

Netshivhadzwaulu said that she was shocked and surprised after hearing that their RDP house had been given to anoth-er family at Makatu village. “I became worried when the municipality omitted my name from the waiting list for low-cost houses,” said Netshivhadzwaulu.

The DA’s councillor, Mr Albert Muf-hala, who visited both families, spoke with them and made a report that he will submit to the municipality. “These families need urgent help from the mu-nicipality,” Mafhala said. “They should have received an RDP house a long time ago – their poverty is so apparent that every hardworking, caring ward council-

lor must see it.” “Cllr Maggie Mathalise knows about our situ-ation, but she has not done anything about it,” said Ndivhuwo Chauke, the daughter of Johanah Chauke. Cllr Maggie Mathalise said she was not aware of the Chauke and Netshivhadzwaulu families’ tough bat-tles against poverty and poor living con-ditions.

She said she would also investigate what had happened to the three unsuccessful ap-plications.

The spokesperson for Coghsta, Selomo Mutupa, said they were going to inves-tigate why the two families’ applications seemed to have been overlooked.

Pastor Nemavhola to be buried

Three in court for robberyThree male suspects in their early 20s recently appeared in the Tshil-wavhusiku Magistrate’s Court in connection a robbery that took place in the Sinthu-mule area.

The three are accused of threatening a woman with a knife and rob-bing her of her driver’s licence, money, shoes, and handbag. “The in-cident happened in the night and the suspects took advantage of the lady and robbed her,” said police spokes-person Sgt Thilivhali Maloa. The police acted

quickly and arrested the three sus-pects. They all reside at Tshiozwi and are scheduled to appear again in court on 17 June. They remain in custody.

The community in and around the Kutama area is in mourning after one of their oldest community members passed away.

Pastor Johannes Ratshitanga Nemavhola (105) of Kutama died on Sunday after a long illness at his home. Ms Florence Mpharalala, daughter of the late pastor, described Nemavhola as a man who had a strong passion for development in the community.

“His death is a sad loss for the family and community at large. We have lost a father-ly figure, a great man who had a vi-sion to transform the community in different places. During his tenure, he spearheaded a number of de-velopmental proj-ects, which were worth emulating by other commu-nity members.”

O n e o f t h e community mem-bers, Mr Gilbert Muofhe, said that Nemavhola was a distinguished per-son who strived for the develop-ment of his com-munity until his

last day on earth. He said Nemavhola was a father, a

mentor, an icon of hope, a role model and a true leader.

“He was a visionary, a manager, an organizer and a trustworthy human being whose desire to serve his com-munity motivated him to work hard. As an individual who had the interests of his community at heart, Nemavhola had initiated countless developmental initiatives around Vhembe,” he said.

He will be buried on Sunday at Tshikwarani at 06:30.

Ten new toilets for Khokhonyane Primary

“Millions of children exposed to abuse and neglect”

Pupils of Khokhonyane Prima-ry were over the moon when a Lepelle Northern Water official recently presented their school with two modern ablution blocks with 10 toilets, worth R650 000.

In 2013, parents closed the school for three months, saying their children were in danger because of the dilapidated school buildings and toilets. In fact, pupils were relieving themselves in the bushes. The government eventually provided the school

with 10 mobile classsrooms, but the toilet situation remained dangerous.

Acting CEO of Lepelle North-ern Water Mr Phineus Legodi said the new toilets would help empower the community. He urged pupils and staff to respect the new toilets and guard against vandalization.

Acting principal of the school Ms Mashudu Phadziri could not hide her happiness. “What you have done for our children is a big relief. You eased a big bur-

den for us and may God richly bless you, so that you continue helping us and our children,” she said. “We are extremely grateful to Lepelle Northern Water for donating the toilets, which not only benefits the school but also the community.”

Thovhele Vho-Vele Kutama also thanked the sponsors. “We are very happy to have a compa-ny that understands our language as leaders that we cannot do things alone for all our people,” he said.

Guests and children release green and white balloons into the air as a way of condemning child abuse and celebrating child protection week.

Some of the jubilant children who attended the child protection event at Musina.

“The protection of our children’s rights is one of our priorities. That is the main reason why we are gathered here today to ensure that those rights are known and understood by everyone. It is our duty as a community to sit down and evaluate our child protection plans and to try and come up with ways to protect our vulnerable children at all times.”

These were the words of Cllr Nkele Milanzi of the Musina Municipal Council when addressing hundreds of children and representatives of com-munity structures during the child protection week awareness campaign at the Skoonplaas Stadium in Musina on Saturday.

She said that millions of children were exposed to abuse, violence and neglect each and every day in every part of the country, while some people sat around and folded their arms.

“A your-child-is-my-child-and-my-child-is-your-child mindset can help in protecting our chil-

dren from all those who do not value the safety of our future leaders. Children have the right

to feel safe and have a feeling of belonging, but most importantly, to receive care from their loved ones and the community members at large. We should aim for the safety and well-be-ing of all children, regardless of colour, background and nationality.”

She said parents played an im-portant role in child protection and empahisised that it was their respon-sibility to ensure that the safety of their children was looked after, but the chain doid not end there as schools and communities were responsible for creating a safe environment.

“It is our responsibility to build a healthy and safe environment for our children, so that they can fully learn, grow and fulfill their dreams. Let’s all stand together against any form of child abuse.”

She urged the members to report any form of abuse.

“Together we can mold our future

leaders by observing and protecting their rights jealously.”

Representing Save the Children (an NGO which deals with children’s issues), Makgapo Eric Mahlo said that children in South Africa lived in a society with a constitution that had the highest regard for their rights and dignity.

“We should all stand up to make sure that children’s rights are protect-ed on a daily basis.”

Among the speakers who gave messages of support during the event were representatives from the Legal Aid Board, Thuthuzela Care Centre, SAPS, Lawyers for Human Rights, Department of Social Development and the International Organization for Migration.

Green and white balloons were released into the air as a way of con-demning child abuse and celebrating child protection week.

Tshimbilu wins fi re awareness contestNearly 150 pupils in the Dzondo Circuit of Education competed in the fi nals of the Fire Awareness Campaign competition at Entabeni Plantation on Friday.

The campaign is hosted annually by the Makhado Fire Protection Association and several stake-holders.

Pupils competed in poetry, drama, creative writ-ing, reading, poster drawing, speech and metal art. They were awarded prizes in the form of branded school bags, juice bottles, dictionaries, and story books. “The pupils also received participatory medals and certifi cates with distinctive colours and sizes according to their judged positions,” said Mr Tshilidzi Mavhungu, project co-ordinator (Komatiland Forests).

The fi re awareness campaign was attended by almost 20 000 scholars and 525 teachers from 42 schools in the Dzondo circuit at school level. Only

the cream of the crop reached the fi nals on Friday.“We have engaged in fi re awareness projects for

the communities,” Mavhungu said. “We educate communities around our plantations about the dangers of veld and forest fi res and structural fi res.”

Although the projects are titled fi re awareness projects, they also combine it with environmental awareness and forest and nature conservation, where they teach communities about littering and the dangers caused by other illegal activities, such as hunting in the forests, bee hunting, and cutting down of trees.

“Our future plans are to offer more and bigger prizes such as bursaries to excelling pupils, and that will obviously depend on the availability of funds from our sponsors or any other organisations that will be willing to assist with funding.”

The purpose of this programme and competition is to educate learners about the dangers of fi res and to provide learners with knowledge and basic fi refi ghting skills.

“We also aim to educate and invest knowledge and skills of basic fi refi ghting in the local commu-nities,” Mavhungu said.

“It is only with that knowledge that we can save our lives, houses, livestock, veld and forests, jobs and many other things from the catastrophe which is caused by fi res. We have so far managed to develop and strengthen our relationship with local communities.”

During the competition, Tshimbiluni Primary School’s drama was named the overall winner. “We work very hard as teachers and learners,” said Ms Munyadziwa Maagi, an educator. “We also thank all parents for supporting us and entrusting their children to us to parent them at school.”

Tshimbilu Primary School were named the best as they won the drama competition.

In our photograph are Ms Phenny Phukubye (Work on Fire), Murendeni Ravele (pupil, from Tshimbilu Primary School’s drama), and Mr Norman Khosa.

Welcome donation for Farisani Crèche

Blind homeless woman to get a house

The Limpopo Voluntary Group Scheme Board, in conjunction with Old Mutual’s Thohoy-andou branch, invested more than R 80 000 towards the purchasing of much-needed goods for children.

Chairs for the young children, a water tank, fridge, computer, printer and trampoline were some of the items presented by the board to the Farisani Community Crèche in Folovhodwe-Tshikhu-dini village on Saturday. Farisani is a Tshivenda word which means “handle it together”.

“We are situated in a deep rural community and Folovhod-we-Tshikhudini village is hin-dered by poverty and unemploy-

ment. The generous donation is warmly welcomed as our kids used to sit on the floor of our one-roomed building,” said the principal of the crèche, Ms Olga Mulabisani. She said the crèche was started in 2007, taking care of children when their parents were looking for odd jobs at the Nwanedi farm near Musina. They are now taking care of about 35 youngsters.

She said that they were thank-ful to the Good Samaritans who never looked down to help them with much-needed items. “God has answered our prayers. We need to take care of our children as they are future leaders,” Mu-labisani added.

The secretary of the Limpopo Voluntary Group Scheme Board and its secretary, Mr Bongise Shimange, said that the board funded crèches and pre-schools as they were the foundation phase of education. “We also funded the previously disadvantaged impoverished communities at Folovhodwe-Tshikhudini. Our board also aimed to alleviate poverty by funding the educa-tional needs of poor children and communities,” said Shimange.

Mr Godfrey Nemavhola, Old Mutual’s Group Scheme Man-ager for the Thohoyandou area, said that ploughing back into the communities was one of the com-pany’s social responsibilities.

Housing continues to be one of major challenges or problems in rural areas, where even some elderly still live in shaky mud shelters while they witness RDP houses being built for their neighbours.

The Economic Freedom Fight-ers (EFF) had learnt about the painful living conditions of a 64-year-old blind lady, Vho-Flo-rah Munyai, who has since left her mud roundavel. She stays with her unemployed son in his one room.

Munyai stays at Mamuhohi

village in Nzhelele. “I have been applying for an RDP house ever since I can remember,” she said. “At one stage they said they couldn’t build me a house be-cause I was living in a house with six rooms.” The six-room house, she said, is the shaky and beat-en-up mud structures scattered in her yard. The EFF’s regional secretary, Mr Patrick Mashau, said that the EFF had come across the woman’s house when they were doing door-to-door visits in the area. He said her living conditions and displacement

were causing her grievous pain.“She told us that she has been

living in such painful condition since 1989,” said Mashau. “This granny has never enjoyed the fruits of freedom and democracy. The old age grant she gets goes to food and medication and nothing is left.”

He added said that the EFF was going to take the responsibility of building a proper house for Munyai. “Our branch leadership is busy with preparations for quotations of all materials needed for the project,” he said. “We are

not yet the government, but we will not fold our arms and pretend that we are not affected by the government’s negli-gence regarding service delivery.”

The EFF said that they were also build-ing a house for anoth-er indigent resident of Shayandima, Mr Mbu-laheni Mudau. “We will continue to assist com-munity members who are neglected by the government,” he said.

Ward 32’s Cllr Ra-chel Malange was not available for comment.

Sports hero “Rhuu” laid to restA well-known sports adminis-trator in Vhembe, Mr Edward Ramasuvha, has urged the youth to emulate and follow in the footsteps of the late star footballer and boxer Reuben Mudziwa.

Mudziwa (53) of Dzwerani outside Thohoyandou worked for the local SARS office and was popularly known as Rhuu in sporting circles.

He was one of the finest sportsman to have emerged from

We just wish our youth could emulate what he did and give themselves targets like he did,” he said. His broth-er, Lawrence, said Mudziwa’s death had left a big void in their family. “We have lost a leader, a unifier who always wanted to see the family together. He will

be sorely missed.” Mudziwa attended school

at Dzwerani, Lwamondo and later studied at Techniven. He worked as a taxi driver and in a panelbeating shop before mov-ing on to SASSA and SARS.

The international boxing coach and owner of Moon Rov-ers, Mr Edward Rama-suvha, said Mudziwa had left footprints that the youth in South Africa could follow in order to succeed. “I mentored him and he

“Put prayer first” - Mufamadi

“Embrace your opportunities with open arms”

Nurses at Tshilidzini Hospital outside Thohoyandou were told to put prayer first in whatever they do “to ward off evil spirits that bring fatalities to their wards”.

This was during the recent Tshilid-zini Hospital Nurses’ Day of Prayer held at the hospital’s recreational hall a fortnight ago.

Tshilidzini Hospital CEO Mpho Mufamadi said it had become cus-tomary at their hospital to observe a day of prayer, especially for the nursing staff. “Nurses today are no longer motivated,” Mufamadi said. “Many have chosen the career not out of passion but just to get a salary at the end of the month.”

“They have many challenges which cause them not to perform at their best and these compromise service to our patients,” he added.

In motivating the nurses, Apostle (Doctor) Hlengane Joseph Maluleke of the First Born Christian Centre in Malamulele said the nursing profes-

sion would remain with challenges if the nurses did not submit themselves to God and pray all the time.

“Prayer is not an option for you but a must. As nurses, you will sometimes come across challenges. Look up to God, pray with authority, be an advocate and do not be intimidated,” he said.

Guest speaker Ms Elizabeth Mbam-bu, who is the deputy manager at the Giyani Nursing College campus, urged nurses to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and work from the bottom of their hearts.

“When you treat a patient, see the face of your mother and a relative and not a person you do not know,” she said. Mbambu urged nurses to continue improving themselves aca-demically in order to keep abreast of current trends.

A candle-lighting ceremony to remember those who have passed away, in addition to a nurse’s pledge of service, was conducted.

The Living Gospel World Mission president, Dr Maswole Ragimana, has urged congregants at Dididi outside Thohoyandou to make hay while the sun shines.

He recently told a packed Dididi branch that the gates of blessings were open and that they should embrace the opportunity with open arms. There are more than 200 branches of the church in- and outside South Africa.

This was during the Dididi branch’s three-year celebrations, which coincided with the ageing man of God’s 77th birthday.

Ragimana said it was evident that what the branch had achieved in that short space of time could not be attributed to men but to the blessings of God. “When we released Pastor Samuel Mad-zebe to this area, we did not know what to expect, but we are very happy to be witnesses of what you have achieved.

“We have travelled to many areas and some of the churches are full of overgrown bushes with no proper structures but you, over these three years, have managed to build such a beautiful church structure with air conditioners that is tiled and has a beautiful ceiling and a borehole that will serve the community when there is no water.

“These are blessings from above and please make use of the opportunity while it still avails itself. You the members, please support the vision of your pastor,” he said.

said they had God and the support from the community to thank for the three years they had been in existence in the area.

“We have managed to build a better church to worship God, and we have also managed to feed the hungry and we are making a meaningful contri-bution to this community. We are very thankful to our headquarters at Tshilivho, who were of great help to

us since we started the work of God here,” said Madzebe.

He said they had also changed many lives in the village with 85 baptized for the service of God.

“We have an able church board and prayer warriors who fast once a month from Friday to Sunday and these are the people that are making God’s work move at such a great speed,” he said.

Debut album for Robert MuediRobert Muedi of Tshidzivhe has just re-leased his debut album, Calvary.

The album, which is marketed and distributed by Ndiene Music, comprises 12 thrilling songs which include hits like Calvary, Ri a livhuwa, Duvha Lok-ovhela and Ipfi La Mudzimu.

The album is doing well commercially and has already started receiving huge airplay on community, re-gional and national radio stations. “I am very hap-py and proud of the way in which my album is being received by my fans out there. This is a true re-flection that my music is mature and a p p e a l s to all age g r o u p s , ” Muedi said.

He grew up lis-tening to famous musi-cians likes Vuyo Mokoe-na, Robson Rambuwani, Roxley Masevhe and many more, and he said he drew inspiration from them.

“Recording the album was not easy,” said Muedi. Despite having plenty of songs readily available, he had to fund the project himself. In order to enhance his writing and composition skills, he took piano lessons. “My ca-reer I started as a dancer and backing vocalist for several artists and groups around Vhembe.” He started to

work with the disabled Selina Musobi and after each

performance, “im-pressed fans asked

me to record my own album. I

fi nally bowed to the pres-

sure and recorded this one. I there-fore en-courage y o u n g

people who want to ven-

ture into the music industry to seek an edu-

cation fi rst. They will also have something to fall back on if their music careers are not doing well.”

Tshivenda tradional music lovers were treated to royalty when music legend Thiathu Edward Netshikweta launched his fourth album, titled Muthu Wanga Wa Afrika, at Thohoy-andou shopping complex on Saturday.

An English teacher at Ladza-ni Primary School in Mutale, Netshikweta gave a brilliant, timeless and evocative perfor-mance while shoppers cheered jubilantly throughout the four-hour music extravaganza.

Through this album, Netshik-weta says, he aims to consolidate the powerful and ever-growing resonance of Tshivenda tradi-tional music. Maninja, as he is affectionately called by his fans, said the album was a gift to all his loyal fans who continued to

support him through thick and thin. “I wanted to take a rest, but pressure from my fans forced me to go back to the studio to record this album. The album is a tribute to all my fans who have been supporting me for the past 10 years in the music industry. I will continue to give them good music because they are the ones who made me what I am,” he said. The seven-track album includes hit tracks such Muthu Wanga Wa Afrika, Kho-nani Ya Vhukuma, Lunyunyu A Lwo Ngo Thanya, O Shanduka, Vhadededzi Vhanzhivhanzi, Mishumo Yo Fhambana and U Guda A Hu Fheli.

On the track Muthu Wanga Wa Afrika, Netshikweta sings about how badly xenophobia affects Africans. “I was deeply

hurt by the recent spate of xen-ophobic attacks on foreign na-tionals, and I felt duty bound to warn people about this barbaric practice. We should all love one another, regardless of where we come from.”

Netshikweta says he is work-ing on his investment plan to plough back his musical knowl-edge to the youth. “I will engage in a talent search and conduct music workshops around Lim-popo during the school holidays. My immediate dream is to es-tablish a recording company that will help to unearth, mould and give an opportunity to rural youths to realize their music potential.”

For CDs, bookings and public performances, Netshikweta can be phone on 079 0331 862.

Huge concern about uncollected refuse

Pupils warmed up as winter approaches

The residents of Madombidzha Zone IB, at the new stands near Maluta Secondary School along the Magau road, have raised concerns about the uncollected refuse at the local refuse control site.

According to a community leader, Vho-Simon Matambule, the Makhado Municipality has failed to collect refuse for the past eighteen months and this kind of negligence has affected the local residents.

“They put the refuse control station in place some two years ago, with two big rubbish containers, but they did not come to collect the refuse,” he said. “The rubbish containers are spilling over onto the ground and the refuse is making its way onto the road. I personally tried to report the matter to the municipal officials who I thought were responsible for refuse collection. Each time I spoke with them, they would give me empty promises.”

Matambule said that the residents were worried about the venomous snakes which slithered in the

The community leader, Vho-Simon Matambule, says the Makhado Municipality has been failing to collect refuse for months.

The Public Servants Associa-tion (PSA) in Vhembe endeared itself to the community of Tshi-kambe outside Thohoyandou, when its members donated 400 jerseys to pupils at Tshikambe Primary School.

When a delegation, led by the provincial liaison officer, Ms Pauline Moloto, and provincial chairperson Mr Mmbangise-ni Rakhangana arrived at the school, they were warmly wel-comed by the village traditional leader, happy pupils and the principal and her staff.

In handing over the jerseys to the kids, Moloto said the donation was part of their social

responsibility as a union. “We are not forced by any-

body and we are not trying to score anything, but we have the interest of children at heart. Winter is approaching and we have seen children with tattered jerseys and some with no jerseys at all,” she said.

She said they were aware of the harsh life in the rural areas, where most of the parents were unemployed or, if employed, they worked for minimum wages. ‘We felt we should do something for these kids. They are the future of this country and we should encourage them in matters of education,” she said.

The organization’s chairper-

son, Mr Mbangiseni Rakhanga, said the donation was an annual event.

“We have donated to many worthy causes and we assigned our shopstewards to identify areas where there is a need and we make the neccessary inter-ventions.”

The principal of the school, Ms Gladys Rokho, and traditional leader Chief Kutama Mphaphuli were both in unison to say the jer-seys would make a big diffrence.

“Many of the parents here do not work and jerseys are a luxury they cannot afford. In winter, many of our pupils catch flu, but this year will be different,” they said.

refuse scattered on the ground. “I know those snakes are dangerous – snakes such as cobras - and it’s not safe to live near such a refuse site,” he lamented. “Why is the municipality not

attending to this problem?”More residents complained about the ubiquitous

flies which swarm into their houses from the refuse control site.

“We try using insecticides to kill and repell flies, but it is useless because they come again in large numbers,” Matambule said.

The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi, agreed that it was the munici-pality’s responsibility to collect the refuse. “Our employees are currently there, making sure that the situation is under control and our truck will collect the refuse soon,” he said on Tuesday. “The truck will collect the refuse every Sunday, starting from this oncoming Sunday.”

Matambule said that the residents would be happier if the municipality kept their promise of service delivery.

“We will watch the site and see if they are doing the work which they must do,” he said.

Members of the PSA, staff, the school management, the traditional leader and the happy children pose during the handing over of the jerseys.

Peace Makers let Arsenal off the hook

Narrow 1-0 victory for Benny’s Care

Magezi FC are the champions of the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League. This despite the fact that they lost their final league match.

They lost 0-2 to Dynamos at the Giyani Stadium last Saturday. The team finished their league programme with 71 points, seven ahead of Bellevue Winners Park. They are now waiting to try their luck in the promotional play-offs that will be played later this month. They were crowned the Limpopo champions last season, but they could not make the grade in the promotional play-offs.

Blue Rocks and Modimolle Aces will be campaigning in the lower division, come next season.

They finished the league pro-gramme in the last two positions respectively.

Joe Express, who tasted the luxury of leading the pack at the beginning of the season, finished their league programme in the 11th spot. In their last match, they lost 0-2 to Great North in Seshego.

Mosesetjane All Stars es-caped relegation by a whisker, following their 2-1 victory over

Modimolle Aces. Aces have been relegated to the SAB League after the defeat.

Giyani Hotspurs were the hardest hit. They were brutally walloped 0-6 by Bellevue Win-ners Park at the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen. Bilika All Stars finished the season on a high note when they beat A1 Ter-rors 2-0 at the Giyani Stadium.

Lephalale Young Killers lost 0-2 to The Dolphins at the El-dorado Stadium in Polokwane. Mighty FC donated points to Winners Park at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The South African feather-weight title is at stake during an exciting professional box-ing tournament at the Giyani Community Hall next Satur-day evening (20 June).

The South African feath-erweight champion, Oscar Chauke, is challenged by the Limpopo provincial champion, Prince Ndlovu. The two fighters are both from Malamulele and their bout is scheduled over 12 rounds.

The opening bout will be between two local boys, Pfari-so Neluvhalani and Godfrey

Nemukongwe. This will be in the featherweight division and is scheduled over four rounds.

In an international feather-weight bout, the former South African champion, Sydney Maluleke, and Tawanda Chig-wiza from Harare in Zimbawe will meet over eight rounds. Chigwiza is the Zimbabwean champion.

In the only female contest of the evening, Bukiwe Nonina, a local star, will meet Diana Ma-kumbe in their bantamweight division fight over eight rounds. Makumbe hails from Harare.

In the main supporting bout, the Limpopo super-middle-weight champion, Benson Hob-yane from Malamulele, and Jo-hannes Peterson from Gauteng meet over eight rounds. This match up is likely not to go be-yond the fifth round, especially if Hobyane does what he did to his last three opponents.

The organisers are Hlangan-isa Sports Promotion, in con-junction with the Greater Giyani Municipality. The entrance fee will be R30 (juveniles), R50 (adults) and R100 for ringside seats.

Benny’s Care beat rivals Tshiozwi Dynamos 1-0 in a local MMK Administrators League match at Tshiozwi on Sunday.

Benny’s started at a fast pace, with the mid-fielders on fire and distributing telling passes to the strikers. They threatened to score in the early minutes when Zano Muleba forced his way through the defence of Dynamos before passing to Dem-be Nepfumembe. His at-tempt missed the target by inches. Dynamos re-alised that Benny’s were all over them and aban-doned their positions and packed themselves at the far back.

Yende Munyadziwa of Benny’s scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute. He un-leashed a powerful shot from outside the box that beat the keeper of Dynamos, Vhuthuhawe Netshiomvani.

The second half saw Dynamos pressing hard in search of the equalis-er. Murendeni Tshidada

of Dynamos dribbled pas three defenders in a row but shot wide when left with only the keeper to beat.

Matodzi Maruli and Muhangwi Mukosi of Dyna-mos were cautioned with yellow cards for different infringements. Benny’s brought on Zwashu Malaka and Gerald Molokomme for Karabo Malebana and Dembe Nepfumembe respectively.

Matodzi Maruli of Dynamos flies through the air in pursuit of the ball.

Khubvi Peace Makers were booted out of the MTG and PIB Soccer Challenge by Arsenal FC, who beat them 5-4 in their semifinal match at the Makwarela Stadium last Sunday.

Arsenal demonstrated their rough skills in the opening minutes of the game, but the referee calmed the situation by flashing two yellow cards within a short space of time. Their defenders, Tony Mudzungwane and Rinae Goma, were booked for dangerous tackles in the fourth and eighth minute respectively. Arsenal lost shape in the middle of the

park shortly after the two yellow cards.Madambi Badzhi of Peace Makers was brought

down within the box in the 24th minute, and the referee was prompted to award a penalty. The keeper of Peace Makers, Zwivhuya Mbengeni, took it upon himself to try his luck from the white spot. He showed the keeper the wrong way to give his side a 1-0 half-time lead.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute. Their veteran defender, Tony Mudzung-wane, was given his marching orders following

a second bookable offence. Mudzungwane tackled Enock Mukwevho from behind.

Peace Makers committed suicide by playing defensive football in the last 20 minutes of the game. It came as no surprise when they conceded a penalty in the 74th minute. Rudzani Mathabi as brought down within the penalty box, and it was a clear penalty for Arsenal. Khuliso Masethe scored from the penalty spot to bring the full-time score to 1-1.

The winner was determined through penalty shootout as a result. Peace Makers managed to convert only three of their chances, while Arsenal scored four.

Arsenal will meet Munan-gwe United Brothers in the final at the Makhuvha Stadium next Tuesday, June 16.

Stanley Luvha of Arsenal kicks the ball after beating Madambi Badzhi of Peace Makers.

Maebane Young Eagles survived relegation when they hammered Tshiozwi Anchors 7-0 in their MMK Administrators League match at the Tshiozwi grounds on Sunday.

Eagles displayed entertaining football. Anchors were only good at the far back and their midfielders hesitated for too long and did not release the ball on time for the goal poachers. They put their de-

fence under tremendous pressure.

Anchors initiated some promising moves from the centre of the pitch, but could not pierce the defence of Young Eagles. Eagles broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Aron Mashula forced his way through the defence of Anchors and scored an easy goal from close range. Mulalo Thovhei was on target in the 35th minute to make it 2-0. Although one of their key midfielders, Andries Masingi, was reprimanded with a card in the 36th minute, An-chors did not lose their fighting spirit.

Eagles continued to pressure their opponents by creating promising moves from the cen-tre of the pitch. Aron Mashula tried his luck from outside the pen-alty box with a volley. The Anchors keeper, Fhetani Fhetani, could only watch the ball hit the back of the net, to bring the half-time score to 3-0.

Anchors missed two clear chances in the last stanza. Stimela Mudau made a huge blunder when he shot wide from close range after receiv-ing a good pass from Takalani Sadiki in the 64th minute. Mulalo Thovhei finished off a rebound after Chungu

Revelation Church of Pfananani presents house to family

Group wants litter-free Vhembe

A family of six in Mulima will now live like other families after the Revelation Church of Pfananani came to their rescue, offering them a four-room house last Saturday.

The Mulima family of six, who have been shar-ing living and sleeping conditions in a dilapidated shack with no proper floor since the floods of 2000, will have shelter soon.

The pastor of Revelation church, Pastor Falaya Famadi, said that one of the church members had visited the family, spoken with them and made a report which he would submit to the church. “This family needs urgent help in terms of accommoda-tion,” Famadi said. He said the church was aware that there were still people who were living in dilapidated houses.

He said that the church cared about people who had lost hope in life, “but as the church, we sit down and look at what we can do to help the people who are in need.”

According to Ms Francina Mulima, the mother of five, she doesn’t understand the reason why all services should by pass them in the village. Muli-ma says that her family has survived by selling firewood and she never thought that she would

own a house one day. She thanked the church members who recognized her need. The roof of the dilapidated shack is so flimsy it is possible to see the sky from inside the hut. During

the rainy season, the hut is filled with water which enters through the roof. “Now we fear that if the rains come again and find us still living here, the roof will fall on us and kill all of us.”

A group of residents who are con-cerned by ubiquitous littering and uncollected refuse has formed an organisation which will deal with the very issue around Vhembe.

The chairperson of Ndondeni Envi-ronmental, Mr Pieter Singo, says that they are a non-profit organisation. The organisation pursues activities that create environmental conscious-ness in the district.

“The goal of the organisation is for the establishment of an integrat-ed waste-management system that benefits the local community and the environment through job creation, cleaning, recycling, producing crafts from waste, composting and food production from organic waste,” Singo said. “We want to believe that all this will lead to a cleaner and healthier environment for us all.”

He said that they had started the organisation after realising that the district was experiencing a problem of littering and uncollected refuse. “The local municipalities do not collect refuse mixed with sand, rocks, steel or garden waste,” he pointed out. “This leaves the community with no other option than to dump such waste on open grounds and street sides. Such acts result in illegal dumping sites that cause diseases and other health prob-lems.”

He elaborated by say-ing that it was their task as an organisation to conduct house-to-house environmental educa-

tion awareness in communities. “This is where we are going to educate our community to gather such mentioned waste in one place next to their re-spective yards at least once a week, so that it will be easy to collect,” he said. “The community will also be made aware of the importance of sorting waste. This is the point where our trucks will collect the waste and offload it at the legal landfill site.”

Singo said that the organisation also aimed to create jobs for unem-ployed people around Musina. “The key point regarding this aspect is to make sure that we are able to raise enough funds,” he said. “The project is expected to last as many years as possible. The environment must be healthy and clean as long as the planet exists. In all our activities, the target-ed population group is the majority of unemployed youths, women and the disabled people.”

Those who are interested in Ndon-deni Environmental can contact Singo at 078 039 4291.

The chairperson of Ndondeni Environmental, Mr Pieter Singo, has a bigger dream for a litter-free Vhembe.

Community fed-up with delay in electricity contract

A concerned community member, Mr Justice Madzivhandila.

The hope of residents of Njhakan-jhaka of receiving electricity from the Makhado Municipality is fading away. What was expected to be a three-month-long project that began in April 2014 is still unfinished.

When Limpopo Mirror visited the area, it was found that poles had been planted with wiring cable attached, and houses are equipped with me-ter boxes, but no one is receiving electricity.

Community spokesperson Mr Os-

car Mudau said the community and different structures had supported the project because they had thought the project would make people’s lives better. He said the project would also make sure that commu-nity members would use electricity and not strip the environment of its bushes for firewood. Connecting electricity to the area would bring happiness to every resident. “We were very happy that we wouldn´t miss anything that happened in the world,” Mudau said.

Mudau said the community blamed the delays on the municipality.

“They planted poles and installed boxes and cables, but these are just decorations in the village (to fool) the passers-by.”

“They promised to finish the job a long time ago. We are still waiting. We are not even sure whether they will honour their promises this time,” Mudau said. He accused the municipality of wasting taxpayers’ money.

According to Mudau, residents used to collect wood to make fire, so that they could cook. “We also used candles as a means of light at night, which poses risks to the residents,” he said.

Another problem is that thieves, known as ez-inyoka, have been terrorising the area by stealing the electricity cables.

According to the villagers, the theft of the cables is one of the reasons for the poor service delivery in the area. It appears as if the ezinyoka target the long cables from the houses to the poles.

Mudau confirmed that the people of Njhakan-jhaka are upset about the delay in completing the job. “We, the ordinary people, want to know why there is a delay in electrifying our village, whereas others have electric lights,” said Mudau. “Where is the money which was budgeted for the project?” he said.

When asked about the time span within which the project should have been completed, Mudau elaborated that it had been agreed that it should have been completed in a period not exceeding three months. “The municipal officials have never come to this area, so how will they know about our problems?”

The people regard themselves as forgotten and feel that the promises made to them have not been honoured.

Makhado Municipality spokesperson Louis Bobodi said technical problems were causing the delays and the community should expect to receive electricity before the end of June.

A Grade 11 rugby player of Eric Louw High School in Musina, David Mandiwana, suffered a skull fracture during a rugby match a fortnight ago. He was admitted to hospital in Pretoria. As there is an outstanding medical bill of R20 000, and his parents do not have any medical aid, the school established a fund to help support the family. Persons interested in contributing to the fund can phone the school at 015 534 0706. Photo supplied.

Most of the affiliates for the MMK Administra-tors League wrapped up their league activities for the current season over the past weekend. Only two streams, D and F, are still to complete their league programmes. The affiliates for the two streams will play their last two matches this weekend. Makovha All Stars are the Stream A champions.

Shigamani FC finished their league programme close behind, in the second position. Mukula Young Santos are the Stream B champions. They are shining on top of the log with 73 points, 10 ahead of Phandulaluvalo FC. Mukula Young Santos were crowned the champions for the same stream last season, but they failed to make the grade in the promotional playoffs at the Giyani Stadium.

United Artists did it again when they finished their league programme on top of Stream C for the second time in a row. It remains to be seen whether United Artists will again disappoint the fans in the promotional playoffs at regional level.

The fight for promotion in Stream D will be between the Tshakhuma teams, Tshakhuma RO United and Maweja Takers FC. Maweja Takers and RO United are separated by goal difference as they are tied with 79 points each.

Mpheni Home Defenders are waiting for the promotional playoffs as they completed the season on top of Stream E. Western Stars, who were the champions of Stream E last season, are lying in the third spot on the log.

The fight for promotion in Stream F is between Wayeni Sea Robbers and Muziafera Blue Eagles. With only one game to go to wrap up their league programme, Sea Robbers look unstoppable.

Rabali Pull Together are already preparing themselves for the play-offs. They are the Stream G champions. The same goes for Muswodi Happy Fighters, who are the Stream H winners. Ficus FC are the Stream I champions.

Munangwe Brothers through to finalsMunangwe United Brothers booked a place in the final of the MTG and PIB Soccer Challenge by beating Mukula Mighty Killers 7-5 in their semifinal match at the Makwarela Stadium last Sunday.

Although Mighty Killers conceded two silly goals in the opening minutes of the game, they did not throw in the towel. United Brothers played attacking football from the first whistle. Pressure continued to mount on the defence of Killers as the game progressed.

Killers conceded a corner kick in the 12th min-ute. Jeffrey Mabasa scored from the corner spot. The ball hit the back of the net without any further touch. The goal injected more fighting spirit into the strikers of United Brothers.

They initiated several promising moves from the middle of the park. Their efforts did not pass without reward as they scored their second goal in the 19th minute. Khethani Netshishivhe beat the offside trap and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Ntakadzeni Matshivha of United Brothers was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He ob-structed Tshenuwani Maphege just outside the box.

The wheel of fortune turned against United Brothers in the opening minutes of the last half. Mighty Killers pulled one back in the 55th minute. Tshenuwani Maphege forced his way through the defence of United Brothers and beat the keeper with a half volley.

United Brothers effected two changes to their original squad in a bid to neutralize the opponents, but the move worked against them as Mighty

Killers found the equalizer in the 68th minute. The score was 2-2 when the referee blew the final whistle and the winner was determined through penalty shoot-out.

United Brothers converted all their five chances, while Mighty Killers scored three. United Brothers will meet Arsenal FC in the final at the Makhuvha Stadium next Tuesday, June 16.

Munangwe United Brothers and Arsenal will face each other in the match. Brothers’ way to the dream fi nal went via Tswinga Peace Makers, whom they beat 4-2 at the same venue in the quarterfi nal two weeks ago. They went on to beat Mukula Mighty Killers 7-5 in their semifi nal match at the Makwarela Stadium last Sunday.

Arsenal’s way to the fi nal was thorny and rocky. They narrowly beat Tshaulu Powerline 1-0 in their quarterfi nal a fortnight ago. They scraped through to the fi nal after beating Khubvi Peace Makers 5-4 in their semifi nal match at the Makwarela Stadium last Sunday.

The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out after a full-time 1-1 stalemate.

Arsenal will be without their veteran defender, Tony Mudzungwane, when they face Munangwe United Brothers in the fi nal.

Mudzungwane was given his marching orders in their semifi nal. Arsenal must keep a close eye on the Brothers’ fast forwards, Example Chauke and Khethani Netshishivhe, or else they will regret it.

The champions of the competition will take home cash prize of R20 000, a fl oating trophy, soccer kit and gold medals. The runner-up will take home R15 000 cash, soccer kit, and sil-ver medals. A cheque to the value of R7 500, soccer kit and bronze medals await the team that will fi nish in third spot. The fourth-placed team will be presented with a cash prize of R5 000 and soccer kit.
