From the Pastor

Peace be with you.

Here is my tweet that went viral reaching 29.5 million people with 575,000 “likes.” The cap on reads “I can move diagonally on this floor.” It is a pre y simple joke, but it captured the interest of people all over the world. It was even featured on a talk show in Spain!

On a more serious note, two reminders about COVID protocols:

1. Please do not come to Church if you are sick. As you know, I supervise many Churches in the Archdiocese besides this one, so I hear what is happening. I am amazed at how many people come to Church not feeling well, and later test posi ve for COVID. Even if you only have the sniffles or a slight headache, please do not come. Remember, there is no obliga on to a end Mass in person during these mes.

2. When you come to Holy Communion, please keep the mask on while you receive (above the nose as it should be for the en re Mass), hold your hands out flat and s ll, so we do not accidentally touch your hand as we distribute causing us to sani ze mul ple mes. A er the priest or Eucharis c Minister leaves your immediate area, lower your mask, place the Blessed Sacrament in your mouth and return the mask above your nose.

These two things will help to keep us all safe. Thanks so much for your pa ence.

Oh, by the way, if you didn’t get the joke above - the floor is like a chess board and bishops move diagonally on chess boards.

Blessings on you and your families,

Bishop Mark

Mass Intentions

V C is a special crucifix that travels from family to family to inspire prayers for voca ons to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life. We have suspended the ministry for the me being. We ask everyone to

please pray for voca ons to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life.

Please pray for the repose of the souls of Maryclare Collings John J. Sheehan

and all our deceased relatives, friends and parishioners of St. Theresa Parish

Prayer for Voca ons to the Priesthood Lord Jesus Christ, you share your saving work with all your brothers and sisters by their bap smal consecra on. But you call some to be ordained priests or deacons to make you visible in a special way, to proclaim your Good News, to celebrate your saving love in the Eucharist and other sacraments, to lead and encourage your people in their pilgrimage to the Kingdom. May you awaken a generous response in the hearts of those whom you are calling to this work, for the building up of your Church. May parents teach their children the need and responsibility of this voca on. Amen

"How many of you say: I should like to see His face, His garments, His shoes. You do see Him, you touch Him, you eat Him. He gives Himself to you, not only that you may see Him, but also to be your food and nourishment."

- St. John Chrysostom

RESPECT LIFE

“He shall wipe every tear from their eyes and there shall no longer be death or mourning.” REVELATIONS 21:4

Men con nue to suffer from the abor on of their children. Many of them repent of having shed the blood of the person God entrusted to their care, love and protec on.

Others tried to protect their child and were not allowed by the child’s mother or by the law to intervene to stop the abor on. Men in these circumstances need to know that they do not weep alone and that healing is available.

PRAYER: Redeem, O Lord, the fathers whose hearts are torn by the abor on of their children.

Please pray to end the scourge of abor on. We are asking parishioners to pray the Rosary from home for the sanc ty of all Human Life, from concep on to natural death. Our Blessed Mother Mary has said that the one true weapon against all evil, especially abor on, is the Rosary.

Thank you for your prayers. St. Theresa’s Pro Life Commi ee

Gi s for the Homeless in Haverhill

Since 1986, Emmaus has been serving the homeless and people in poverty in the greater Haverhill area.

Emmaus operates homeless shelters for individual and families, and provides educa on and job training with the goal of helping families get into permanent housing, jobs, and self-sufficiency. You can read more about Emmaus at their website, www.emmausinc.org. Our St. Theresa parishioner, Chris na San ago, works at Emmaus House. She has asked us to pass along their request for holiday dona ons for their guests. This year, due to the pandemic, they have put several items needed of varying costs on an online gi registry through Target. The registry can be accessed at: h ps:// nyurl.com/y36ohnpm. Gi s purchased online through this registry will be shipped directly to Emmanus in Haverhill. If you have any ques ons about this opportunity, please reach out to Chris na at csan [email protected]. Thank you for your generosity!

As the days get colder, we will bring our weekly scheduled Confessions indoors on Saturdays from 2-3 PM. We have been doing Confessions in the back-parking lot and they have been well received. If you don’t see Father Tom or Bishop Mark si ng outside behind the rectory, we deemed it too cold, and we will open the side door to the foyer of the hall (the door on the big parking lot side.) Soon we will also have signs to help direct everyone. Please come in and wait in the foyer for your turn. Please know, you can always call and make an appointment for Confession with either Fr. Reilly or Bishop Mark.

Call the Regional Bishop’s Office at 978-531-1013 or, email: [email protected].

Today is the Feast of Saint Nicholas!

December 6th is the day the Church celebrates the great Saint Nicholas, a third century bishop from Asia Minor. St. Nicholas dedicated his life to serving God and the poor, sick, and suffering.

Over the centuries, many stories have been told of St. Nicholas’ life and works. I’d recommend this video for children about his life. It’s available to watch for free on FORMED. Visit our parish website (www.s heresanreading.org) and look for the blue FORMED banner for direc ons on how to sign-up for your free account.

Also, the website “St. Nicholas Center” has more informa on about his life. There is also a special page for kids with cra ideas, games, and coloring pages. You can also read about the fun tradi on of children leaving their shoes out to be filled with goodies at the website: www.stnicholascenter.org.

Legion of Mary

Mary calls upon us. What an honor.

Are we going to refuse her help?

2nd Sunday of Advent When we were in school, the nuns used to tell us that we should always be on our best behavior. “You never know who might be watching and who might think of God and be saved because you did the right thing.” It was heady stuff,

but a lesson that has stuck with me for many years. You never know whom you will influence by even a simple kind word or deed.

Faith is both taught and caught. Some people, like those known as ‘cradle Catholics’ learn about God and the Church as they grow up, receiving sacraments a ending Catholic school or Religious Educa on Classes. Others embrace the faith later on in life, o en through a spouse or friend who introduces them to the Church. Others simply no ce something about us who believe and are drawn to it.

Words and deeds are powerful tools in proclaiming the Risen Lord. These same tools allow us to show our love and respect for those we love and share our life with. What we say and what we do reinforces our commitment to the Lord, showing those closest to us the best possible example and the best possible support. You never know who may be watching. James Gaffney, © 2008 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing

Christmas Is Coming We are looking forward to celebra ng with you the birth of Jesus. To try to accommodate the number of people who want to a end Christmas Mass, we have added extra Masses. In addi on, Cardinal Seán has allowed us to add a 3:00 PM Mass on Christmas Eve so we can offer two Masses (3 & 5 PM) during this popular meframe. There will be limited sea ng so we can follow COVID-19 protocols. A endees should wear a mask. The Masses will also be live streamed.
