Response to Suggestion Box(Thank you to Dr. Ugochukwu for supplying this information)

Cottey College has had a practice of not offering classes from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in order to allow faculty, staff, and students to schedule meetings during times when most are able to attend.

Faculty members and division chairs have attempted to maintain this policy; however, in the spring, a couple of classes have been scheduled during the 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. hour due to unavoidable reasons. The classes include those taught by adjunct instructors as well as a Zoology course.

Many adjunct instructors are full-time employees at other institutions or professors who travel daily among college campuses, so Cottey tries to accommodate their schedules; sometimes the free hour is the only time they are available to teach at Cottey.

The Zoology class was scheduled at this time in order to avoid conflicts with other required courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Since many of our students take these courses concurrently in any given semester, conflicts are difficult to avoid.

Academic Affairs monitors the scheduling practices to respect the need for a free hour and will continue to do so.

Students present at interfaith conference

Director of Spiritual Life and Campus Diversity Rev. Erica Sigauke, drove four students to a three-day interfaith and diversity conference in Springfield, Missouri, on Friday, November 11. The students prepared PowerPoints on different diversity topics under the guidance of the director. The conference titled, “inspired to Serve: interfaith Social Justice” served as a potential learning experience for students from various universities and colleges. The main purpose of the conference was to empower and learn from each other about how to build healthy peaceful relationships in our institutions while touching as many souls as we can through our community outreach programs. Also, to encourage dialoguing, promote peace learning, love, healing, tolerance, compassion and reconciliation. The students who represented Cottey College on this outstanding inspiring presentation were cecelia Rose-mackey, our Interfaith leader, taylor cordaro, christi-anne Beatty and ifeoluwa olaoluwa.
