Sarah Webb 11-18-10 Teacher Cadet Today was my seventh day as a teacher cadet. When I first came in the classroom looked like it hadn’t been touched since everyone left the day before. None of the normal tasks were completed like they normally are when I arrive. Nor was Miss Robbins in the classroom. I didn’t really know what I should do so I decided to start getting things in order the way that I had seen them everyday that I had been there. I got the lunch count ready to be taken from the children whenever the bell rang and they came into the class. Then once the students began to arrive Miss Robbins was still not in the class so I told them to go ahead and get out their morning work and begin on it. I also told them to turn in anything that they forgot to turn in yesterday whenever all of their signed papers were due. Thankfully none of them panicked or started asking me any questions about anything. Eventually Miss Robbins came into the classroom and told me she had been on car duty out in the front. This is a voluntary action that the teachers have a choice to do. I also found out that whenever they do this task they get to leave early on the day that they did it on. Everyday the children have a different activity that they go to. Today was computer lab. In computer lab they do different things like math, reading, and history. This week it was reading. I think this is a good idea because it helps the children learn how to use the computer better which will help them later in life and it also helps them to learn reading, math, and history in a different way than the teacher just standing up at the front of the room and teaching it to them everyday. The last thing that I did today before I left was go to another computer lab with my students. On days that they have computer lab they go to another computer lab and work on addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Depending on their math level is which one they work on. They get a grade for

how well they do and they also are participating in a school wide competition. Whenever a

student completes one of these levels they get a certain colored star on a bulletin board in the

school with their name on it to show how well they have done. I think this is a really good idea

because it makes learning all of this stuff that they have to learn anyways a little bit more

entertaining for them.
