10 Session Art Class(Course Outline)
1st Session: Talent testActivities:
Talent Test1. Materials: Pencil
Eraser Bond/ Oslo paper
2. 3 test (easy, medium, hard) for 10, 10, 15 minutes each Viewing of the Teacher’s Portfolio Sharing of any Art experiences and expectations.
*materials for next session: 4b pencil, sketch pad (Best Buy at 9x12)
2nd Session: DrawingActivities:
Creating a New Habit- Quick Sketching(10-15 minutes quick sketch of an object before starting any session)
Quick lesson on Pencil and how to use it Basic drawing techniques- Simplifying & Placing of an object Tonal Values- Shades of Dark & Light
Application: Drawing of an object and shading
*materials for next session: Coloring pens
3rd Session: Color pens and ShadingActivities:
10-15 minutes quick sketching Review and further application of the last lesson but using coloring pens Shading techniques
*materials for next session: 1 #1 flat brush (best buy) 1 #4 round brush (best buy) 1 watercolor set (student grade) 1 watercolor paper pad 1 palette 1 masking tape 1 sponge
4th Session: Introduction to Painting: Using the BrushActivities:
10-15 minutes quick sketching Demonstration on different brush strokes by the teacher Practice different brush strokes for the whole session for familiarization To be passed at the end of the session
Assignment: read about color wheel
5th Session: Understanding the Color Wheel and How to Use it Warm and Cool Colors and their meaning Primary, Secondary, Intermediate Colors Mixing Colors Color Blending
Activities: 10-15 minutes quick sketching Quick lesson on colors and the color wheel Create a tonal color wheel study
*can be passed as an assignment if 50% of the activity is not finished
*materials for next week: vellum board/ plywood 10x12 inchesMaterials: watercolor, brush, tapes and board
6th Session: Basic Watercolor Techniques Lesson on wash and its application Soft and Hard edges
Activities: 10-15 minutes quick sketching Techniques will be first demonstrated by the teacher Students will apply it on the watercolor paper to be submitted at the end
of the sessionMaterials: watercolor, brush, tapes and board
7th Session: Elements and Principles of Design Quick lesson on elements and principles of design
Activities: Application of lessons 2-6 Live painting session (still life)

8th Session: Values and Depth
Activities: Live painting session (landscape)

9th Session: Light and ShadowActivities:
