The Statistic Platform Lake Constance is a working group organized by the Economics Commission of the International Lake Constance Conference (IBK). It comprises representatives of statistics offices and other institutions in the Lake Constance region. The Bureau for Statistics of the Canton of St.Gallen is responsible for managing this project. The Statistic Platform Lake Constance provides interested parties from administrations, business and society with statistical figures on various relevant themes for the international Lake Constance region (IBK region). These are mainly based on existing data from the various public statistics systems in Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland, which are harmonized across borders as far as possible. Background information on the figures published in this leaflet as well as more detailed data on the Lake Constance region can be found at www.statistik-bodensee.org .

The GDP in the Lake Constance region amounted to some 205 billion euros or 253 billion Swiss francs in 2011. It therefore accounts for around 6 % of the total GDP of the four countries that make up the Lake Constance region and is higher than the national GDP of Finland (2011: 189 billion euros).

Cross-border commuter flows in the Lake Constance region (2012)

The figures displayed only apply to accommodation in the hotel segment (hotels, inns, guesthouses) with at least 10 beds. Data on overnight stays on camp sites, in youth hostels, recreation and holiday homes, private and commercial holiday apartments was not available and is therefore not pre-sented here. The overnight stays listed represent approximately 30 to 50 % of all overnight stays in the Lake Constance region based on expert estimations. The duration of stay refers to the number of nights spent in the same hotel. Customer groups (e.g. cycling tourists) who stay in the region for a longer period but frequently change their accommodation are therefore not included in these figures.
