ESTEP and the EIB: what about future projects ?

• EIB is already familiar with large steel projects (Automotive programmes, environment…)

• EIB participates in Working groups and in the 3 ESTEP committees

• EIB participation is envisaged for the second and third phases (pilot & demonstration, industrialisation of the ULCOS project ?)

ESTEP: proposal for a JTIESTEP: proposal for a JTI

• ESTEP is focussed on European objectives: the Green House Gas and Energy issues

• A consortium already existing in the framework of ULCOS

• A long term industrial R&D programme• An important financial commitment of the steel

industry• A need for a critical mass of resources

(European, national and regional)• High investment costs
