External USB keyboard
A USB 101-key keyboard can be used with the MFP if the following conditions are met: SP mode 5-075-001 must be set to “1”. The use of USB keyboard must be enabled via SP5-075-001
and user mode. The USB keyboard for SDK is not connected.
24
Auto job promotion (1/2)
The machine can skip specific defective jobs and start printing the subsequent jobs. The function must be enabled in user tools.
25
Auto job promotion (2/2)
Specific error jobs can be skipped. When an error occurs during printing a job, the job cannot
be skipped and the machine will stop with an error message.
To reduce the occurrence of such situations, administrators can set the number of pages for pre-detection of errors.
The machine predicts an error, so the job will be skipped and handled as 'Hold Print'.
26
Scheduled print
This lets users delay printing to a specified time. The time can be input with the printer driver, as shown
below left. The time can be changed with WIM or at the operation
panel, as shown.

46
Fusing drive
The fusing/paper exit motor [A] drives the pressure roller [B].
The fusing belt [C] around the fusing lamp is driven by the pressure roller.
47
Heating belt unit
Cleaning the heating sleeve: Never touch or wipe the heating belt surface with anything. If the heating sleeve needs cleaning (for example: offset
image) feed some white paper through the fusing unit. Replace as an assembly.
48
Warning
Symptom: Poor fusing in solid areas. Cause: Kink/crease in the heating belt.
When the engine stops in the middle of a long run a kink/crease can occur in the heating belt due to the temperature difference between the center of the heating sleeve and the other areas.
Kink 120oC
300oC
This section of the fusing sleeve belt expands when the engine
stops suddenly after continuous printing due to the sustained high
temperature.
49
Output check
To prevent damage to the fusing sleeve belt, the output check for the fusing/exit motor (SP5-804-031~35) is moved to the special service mode.
Kink on the fusing sleeve belt.

50
Fusing shutter (1/2)
The fusing unit has a shutter plate [A] to improve energy efficiency.
The fusing unit shutter plate drive motor rotates the shaft inside the fusing unit through the gear [C]. At the same time the pressure roller is pushed against the
nip pad. The fusing unit shutter home position sensor [D] detects
whether the shutter is opened or closed. The actuator [B] is on the shutter plate.
51
Fusing shutter (2/2)
The shaft driven by the motor (see the previous slide) also has a gear at the opposite end.
This gear rotates another shaft with two cams [F] through the gear [E] and a belt.
The two cams move the shutter.
52
Shutter plate replacement
When reinstalling the fusing upper-cover the ends of the shutter plate may be damaged when excessive force is used. This may cause malfunction of the shutter plate.
53
Fusing temperature components
A. 2 X Non contact sensors (Upper & Lower)
B. Heating sleeve
C. 2 X Thermostats (Center & End)
D. 2 X Pressure roller thermistors (at both ends)
E. Fusing lamp
F. 2 X Thermopiles (Center & End)
54
Pressure roller
After replacement of the pressure roller, lubrication of the bearings (A & B) is not required.
The surface of the pressure roller is fragile, so handle with care. Protect the surface with a sheet of paper when placed
outside the unit.
55
Fax unit
The MBU and FCU are combined into one board. After you replace the FCU, you must transfer the SRAM
data from the old FCU to the new one. This is done by connecting the old FCU to the new one
with a flat cable. A flat cable is provided with the new FCU service part.
The following data will be transferred: TTI, RTI, CSI, bit switch settings, RAM address settings, NCU parameter settings.
56
Boards
The BICU has been divided into two boards: BCU, and IPU. The same BCU board is used for the following three models:
Alex-C2, Apollon-C3, Athena-C3.
IPUBCU
57
Improved airflow (1/3)
The airflow inside the machine is improved to prevent toner clocking.
The air from the PSU will go directly to the outside. To cool the toner and the air around the laser unit more
fan’s in the machine and louvers in the covers are added.
58
Improved airflow (2/3)
A cutout [A] is created on the supply guide plate and the 2nd duct fan [B] is doubled in order to exhaust the air from the main fans effectively.
59
Improved airflow (3/3)
The new duct [A] and the shape change of the drum positioning plate can guide the airflow from the main fan to the QSU-heater cooling fan.

63
SMC data to SD card
All settings (both SP mode settings and UP mode settings) can obviously be printed using SP5-990 (SMC).
However, as of 11A, you can also save the SMC onto an SD card (csv format) SP5-992.
SD slot or Service slot
64
Changes to the PM table
Drum unit (K): Replace at 300k. Drum unit (CMY): Replace at 150k. ITB cleaning unit: Replace at 300k. Ozone Filter/Exhaust Filter: Change at 300k.
New EM item: Toner supply units: 2000k (K), 1500k (CMY). Toner scatter-proof filter: 300k.
Fusing unit: Heating sleeve unit: Replace at 300k.
Counter to set to “1” before replacing parts: New item: Heating sleeve unit (SP3-902-018).
65
Fusing unit
If the fusing unit is not replaced at 330k, the machine will stop, to prevent the sleeve belt from breaking. At 315k, a near-end message appears on the operation
panel. At 330k, an end message appears on the operation panel
and the machine stops. This is the same as the process for the heating roller in the
previous model.
66
Toner scatter-proof filter
This filter prevents toner particles from being blown out of the rear of the machine at the right side.
67
New yield parts
The toner supply unit (includes pump and toner supply tube) is a new yield part. K: 2000 k (5% coverage) Y, M, C: 1500 k (5% coverage)
The machine uses the page counter and the part’s operation time counter to determine when the part must be replaced. This is the same system as for other yield parts.
When either of the counters reaches the maximum limit, the machine indicates that the part must be replaced.
