PRINCIPAL Athletics Carnival: Congratulations to students for displaying such a very high level of participation, enthusiasm, team spirit, athletic skill and good sportsmanship at the athletics carnival on Friday. It was wonderful to have so many entering races and events and enjoying themselves with some very loud cheering! There were some excellent performances on the day in all disciplines. I am also looking forward to cheering on the MPS team that will represent at the Heferen Shield next Monday, 28 th July. Congratulations to the winning house, Gwydir – an excellent team effort! Thank you also to the large number of our parents and friends in attendance – certainly a lovely way to spend time with your children. We greatly appreciated the support of our fantastic parent helpers who carried out various tasks on the day. We couldn’t have done it without your generosity. A big thank you to canteen manager, Mrs Rae and team who assisted with the P&C stall/barbecue and all of whom worked tirelessly to keep everyone nourished with warm, tasty food and beverages. Thank you to Mr Michael King and Mr Kite for their work during the holidays measuring and marking the track. I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the entire staff at MPS for their efforts setting up, during the day and packing up at the conclusion of the carnival – all in rather brisk weather! It was a big team effort. Finally, my thanks and congratulations go to the athletics carnival organising committee led by Mr van Velthuizen and Mr Cooper. Kindergarten 2015: Do you have a younger child or perhaps a friend who has their first child ready to start kindergarten next year? If so, we are now accepting enrolment applications. Children who turn five (5) years of age by 31 st July 2015 are eligible to enrol. Please contact the school office for an enrolment form and submit the completed form accompanied by copies of your child’s birth certificate, immunisation certificate and confirmation of residency. Parents who do not live in the Moree Public School local intake area may submit an application for non-local enrolment. These will be considered as per DEC guidelines and parents will be notified of the outcome by the end of this term. Late applications for non local enrolment will not be considered. Parents seeking non local enrolment are encouraged to also contact their local school. Should you wish to discuss your child’s enrolment, please contact the school office for an appointment with Mrs Hosegood. We look forward to meeting the new kindergarten children in coming months with further details for our Head Start into Kinder transition program to be advertised in the near future. Education Week – Celebrating the 60 th Education Week: Next week we celebrate Education Week showcasing the quality teaching and learning that happens all year round in our school. This year marks the 60 th anniversary of the first Education Week and is an ideal opportunity for us to take stock and measure progress. The tagline for the 1954 Education Week was: Lighting the way to a better world. The NSW Department of Education and Communities has again adopted this slogan for the 2014 anniversary celebration. It is interesting to note the pertinence of the slogan, even in our world of fast paced technology and world affairs. Public schools, like ours, have nurtured the talents of young people and shaped the lives of millions of Australians. Whilst many have excelled in their chosen fields and have helped to build this state and nation, we are extremely proud of all MPS graduates who have grown up to demonstrate decency and commitment to their family and wider community. Moree Public School will have a variety activities on Tuesday and Thursday during Education Week. On Tuesday we will continue our long established practice of having three services of worship to be held at the Anglican Church at 9:15am for K-2, 9:55am for 3/4 and 10:30 for 5/6 followed by morning tea under the school hall with parents and staff. This will be followed by classroom visits between 11:30am and 12:30pm. A warm welcome is extended to parents, grandparents and friends to visit classrooms, admire students’ work and chat with the children and teachers. On Thursday Moree Public School will host the Moree Community of Schools Education Weeks Awards ceremony commencing at 11:00am in the new hall. The awards will recognise the effort and achievement of a student, staff member and community member from each of the participating schools. Tuesday, 22 nd July 2014

Opportunity Class 2015 placement: Best wishes to the Year 4 students who are sitting the test on Wednesday. This test is administered by the High Performing Students Unit (Sydney) for those who seek Year 5 placement in the 2015 opportunity class. Sport: Last Wednesday both the boys and girls hockey teams enjoyed a game at Tamworth against Timbumburi and Oxley Vale Public Schools. While MPS went down in two fast games on the artificial turf, our coaches Mrs Gulliver, Mrs Hattenfels and Mrs Woods were very proud of the team spirit, tenacity and presentation displayed at Tamworth. Well done everyone! Dates still being negotiated with various schools for boys and girls touch football, boys soccer will be advised as soon as they are confirmed. As the attached calendar confirms, planned school activities for this term are quite extensive. Assemblies: This week the infants assembly will be hosted by 1M-4 and Miss McPherson at 10:30am in the hall adjacent to the school office. The primary assembly will be hosted by 4H-22 and Mrs Hunter at 11:25am in the new hall. Do come along and enjoy these special moments.

Hockey: Last Wednesday, the girls and boys hockey teams travelled to Tamworth to play their first games against Oxley Vale PS and Timbumburi PS. After a wet start to the day, the girls began the day with enthusiastic attitudes. With a strong opposition, the girls fought back hard with an early goal from Rachel Hattenfels. Although they were defeated, the girls held their heads high throughout the entire game. Madeline Watts played an outstanding game in the goals with her sister Eliza showing great defence in the backs. The combination of Rachel Hattenfels, Sarah Woods and Abby Newton in the forwards created lots of opportunities. A great team effort – Natalia Stanojevic, Olivia Garland, Rachel Hattenfels, Josie Orr, Sarah Woods, Abby Newton, Alexandra Marchand, Eliza Jackson, Eliza Watts, Millicent Beattie and Madeline Watts. The boys also started the game eagerly against another strong opposition. The final score line did not reflect how hard the boys worked. There were many opportunities but unfortunately the opposition was too experienced on the turf fields. Andrew Kirk, Oliver Marchand and Lincoln McNair, who volunteered to play in goals, had outstanding games. All boys are to be congratulated for their fantastic sportsmanship and attitude throughout the game - Oliver Marchand, Andrew Kirk, Mac Orr, Lincoln McNair, David Stewart, Braith Rohde, Dominic Kowalski, Connor Williams, Will Caccianiga and Tom Watts. Mrs Gulliver, Mrs Hattenfels & Mrs Woods
