Tell the World who is Making a Difference!
• The ISO 14001 Awards were launched in 2006 to mark the 10th anniversary of ISO 14001
• They recognise the achievements of organisations that have successfully implemented ISO 14001 and have achieved third party certification of their EMS
• The 2008 Awards build upon the experiences gained
• The 2008 Awards are being assisted by IEMA and the actual Awards ceremony will take place at the IEMA Conference Dinner in June 2008

The 2008 Award Categories
• SME (fewer than 250 employees and less than £31 millions turnover)
• Large Organisation
• Public Sector Organisation
• Most Innovative Organisation (drawn from the entries for the first three)

Nominations Process
• Open to all UK based or UK registered “branches” of international organisations
• Certification scope must include activities in the UK and applicants must include a copy of their current Certificate with their application
• Details of any prosecutions or pending prosecutions must also be submitted with all applications
• Nominations can be made by:
– The organisation itself
– A Certification Body
– A Trade Association

The Judging Panel
• Drawn from the members of the relevant BSI Standards Technical Committee
• Anyone associated with any of the nominated organisations (including certification body personnel) will be excluded
• If necessary, BSI Standards staff will filter applications to give the Judges a manageable task
• The Judging Panel will however be aware of all applications received

Judging Criteria – All categories (1)
• Demonstration of visible leadership, commitment and involvement of top management
• Integration of EMS within overall working practices, mainstream management activities and at the strategic level
• Evidence of measurable environmental improvement
• Involvement of staff at all levels
• Evidence of programmes for communication and dissemination of achievements to interested parties

Judging Criteria – All categories (1)
• Demonstrated reduction in the overall environmental impact of products and services
• Economic or other benefits resulting from the implementation of ISO 14001
• Indication of period of time for improvements/savings/benefits from implementing ISO 14001

Judging Criteria – Large and Public Sector Organisations
• Supply Chain engagement and use of EMS to influence procurement

Timetable for the 2008 Awards
• October 2007 – Announcement of Awards on BSI Website
• 29th November 2007 – Launch of Awards at today’s event
• 1st March 2008 – Deadline for applications to be submitted
• Early May 2008 – Shortlisted organisations will be informed
• 4th June 2008 - Awards made at IEMA Dinner in Bournemouth

• The BSI Standards ISO 14001 Awards are a real attempt to recognise those making the best use of the Standard
• They are open to all organisations that meet the criteria set out above
• The Judging Criteria will be used to assess applications so make sure that you clearly demonstrate them all in yours!
• Remember the timetable and deadline
• Start preparing your application as soon as you get back to the office
