About Furugrund
• Furugrund Preschool was opened on April 8th 1978. Initially the school had two (2) classrooms. On Agust 1988 a school expansion was taken into operation and now the school has four (4) classrooms; Dropasteinn and Mánasteinn for 3-6 year olds, Álfasteinn and Dvergasteinn for 1-3 year olds. Simultaneously the school can accommodate 80 children.
Child development program
• Learning through play– Play in all its variety is a key element in all child development programs.
• Learning to communicate– The ability to communicate is fundamental to living, working and playing
with others in peace and harmony.
• Learning by means of creative work and creative thinking – To sense, understand and create is a skill that children need to develop.
All preschool layout plans and equipment should be designed to stimulate children’s curiosity, initiative, involvement, interests, pleasure, and to strengthen their independence.
• Learning through preschool daily routines– Childcare development is an integrated program where, under different
circumstances, the child is learning all the time.
