New Enrollment Requirements for Tricare Prime Beneficiaries
Newborns will have the 120 days “grace period” healthcare coverage in Tricare.
Once the newborn is registered in DEERS the “grace period" ends and the 90 day period for the Qualifying Life Event (QLE) starts. This QLE allows the beneficiary to enroll or change their enrollment.
The newborn will then show as TRICARE Select starting with the date of birth in DEERS.
From the day of the DEERS entry the sponsor has 90 days to enroll the newborn in Tricare Overseas Programs (TOP)‐ Prime or Prime Remote.
