Whether that be at the local Senior Center or helping out downtown Toledo at the Cherry Street Missions. Above you will see some of our individuals hard at work, helping Cherry Street Mission in the kitchen. At left, Jeremy and Mike slicing potatoes, with Joe stirring up some delicious pancakes on the right. PCS provides programming that demonstrates the importance of maintaining daily living skills. These skills could be used as a tool to improve their independence. These skills may help with an individual’s opportunity to become employed. Above is Dylan (staff) teaching Betty, Mary Ellen and Diane typewriter skills. Use of a keyboard can also benefit fine motor skills and coordination. A group of individuals wanted to know more about the careers available in the community. It was their decision to ask those at Barnes and Noble those standard five words: Who, What, Where, How and Why. They interviewed staff from the book store and coffee shop. Individuals were exposed to the duties and responsibilities of having a job, and the rewards that comes with being employed. News from Empowering Life Without Limits

Top 10 Things to Know about the New and Modified HCBS Adult Day Array

Beginning April 1, 2017

1. The new and revised services help enhance the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by promoting person-centered practices and community life engagement.

2. They focus on outcomes, not just activities.

3. They balance what is important to people and what is important for people.

4. They allow providers more flexibility in staffing to meet people's needs.

5. All services address the HCBS Settings Rule.

6. Employment services help someone get or keep a job in the community, or find a better one.

7. People can get new services that were not available before, such as Benefits Analysis.

8. Rate modifications are available to help support people in the community.

9. Rate modifications are also available to help support people with more complex needs.

10. Budget limitations are increased from 240 to 260 days of service.

PCS Community Integration tract provides a weekly schedule of community outings, tours and shows.

This month’s performance indicator:

April is Cancer Awareness month. A few individuals visited the cancer center with cookies

and cards.
