2SAFETY

Important: Hydraulics are under pressure. Never attempt toopen or work on a hydraulic system with the equipment running.Care should always be taken when first opening a system thatwas previously pressurized.

When disconnecting the hydraulic hoses or when purging is required, be awarethat the hydraulic oil within the machine system may be extremely hot and underhigh pressure. Caution must be exercised. Any work carried out on the hydraulicsystem must be performed in accordance with the machine manufacturerersapproved maintenance instructions. Raven Industries recommends that appropri-ate protective equipment be worn when working on the hydraulic system. Ob-jects or materials that are able to bypass the machines hydraulic filtration systemwill adversely reduce performance and possibly damage the hydraulic valves.

Do not reverse the power leads. Doing so will cause severe damage to theequipement. Always check to make sure that the power leads are connected tothe right polarity as marked. Ensure that the power cable is the last cable to beconnected.

3MOUNTING THE UNIVERSAL BRACKET AND VALVE

1. The bracket mounts to the right side of the machine directly above theexhaust pipe.

2. The flat universal bracket is mounted above the exhause pipe using theexisting exhaust support bolts.

3. The T-shaped bracket is then attached to the previously mounted bracketusing the provided 3/8 bolts.

4. The Raven valve is then attached to the mounting bracket using theprovided mounting bolts (as sown in picture).

4HYDRAULICS

Installing Pressure, Tank, Left & Right Counterbalance toOrbital Hoses

1. Access to the steering orbital is located on the front left side of the cab.

2. The ports are marked on the orbital. Label hoses before disconnectingthem.

3. The Pressure and tank hoses are removed and re-installed with a #8ORFS run tee.

4. The supplied pressure hose (P/N 214-1000-279) is routed under the caband the 90 end is connect to the branch fitting of the tee on the pressureport.

5. The other end of the pressure hose is connected to the P port on thevalve using a supplied #6 JIC 90 fitting.

6. The supplied tank hose (P/N 214-1000-276) is routed under the cab andthe 90 end is connected to the branch fitting of the tee on the tank port.

7. The other end of the tank hose is connected to the T port on the Ravenvalve using a #6 JIC 90 fitting.

8. The Counterbalance (CB) to Left Steer hose (P/N 214-1000-281) isattached to the A port on the counter balance using a #6 JIC end anda 90 fitting.

9. The Left Steer hose is disconnected from the orbital and the free end ofthe CB to Left Steer hose is connected to the left port on the orbital.

10. The Counter Balance (CB) to Right Steer hose (P/N 214-1000-280) isconnected to the B port on the counter balance using a #6 JIC end anda 90 fitting.

11. The Right Steer hose is disconnected from the orbital and the free end ofCB to Right Steer hose is connected to the orbital.

Counter Balance valve is plumbed in-line with the shown left and right steerhoses between tess and steer orbital.

NOTE: This figure shows the machine plumbed without the counter-balance. It is necessary to use the provided Counter Balance valve.

Installing the Left and Right Steer Hoses

1. Attach the provided #8 ORFS run tees to the ends of the original left andright steer hoses using the straight fitting of the tee.

2. Connect these run tees to the ORFS ports on the counter balance. TheLeft Steer hose and fitting connects to the opposite side of A; port. TheRight Steer hose and fitting connects to the port opposite the B port.

3. Route the A Port to Left Steer hose (P/N 214-1000-277) up under thecab to the counter balance. Connect the 90 end of the hose to the branchfitting of the tee on the original left steer hose.

4. Route the B Port to Right Steer hose (P/N 214-1000-278) up under thecab to the counter balance. Connect the 90 end of the hose to the branchfitting of the tee on the original right steer hose.

5. Connect the supplied left steer hose to the A port on the Raven valve andthe right steer hose to the B port on the Raven valve, both using a 90 JICfitting.

Installing the LS-Steer and LS Priority Valve Hoses

1. To install the LS-PV hose, it is necessary to remove the original Load Sensehose, which connects the Priority valve to the steer orbital.

NOTE: The Priority valve is located below the front right sideof the cab corner. The Load Sense port is on the left side of theorbital.

2. The supplied LS-PV hose (P/N 214-1000-275) is then installed by attachingthe 90 end to the previously disconnected port on the priority valve and theother end to the LS-PV port on the Raven valve using a 90 #6 JIC fitting.

3. Route the LS-Steer hose (P/N 214-1000-274) from the Raven valve to theorbital going between the cab and exhaust.

4. Connect the #4 ORFS end of the hose to the orbital.

5. Connect the LS-Steer hose to the LS-Steer port on the SmarTrax Valve.

6. Connect the Pressure Switch directly to the PS port on the SmarTrax Valve.

5MOUNTING THE STEERING POSITION SENSOR

1. The Steering Position Sensor (SPS) mounts on either side of the frontaxle.

2. One end of the SPS mounts to the outer end of the steering tie rod by theball joint using the supplied hose clamps and mounting tab.

3. The opposite end of the SPS mounts to the bolt on the top of thedifferential housing.

4. Part of the supplied bracket can be used to make a small mounting tabfor the SPS.

NOTE: Be sure not to over extend or over compress sensorupon initial startup!

After installing the SmarTrax on your machine, always follow these start-upprocedures.

Make sure the Steering Position Sensor does not over-extend or over-compress when turning the wheels.

Turn the wheels fully from side to side numerous times to remove airfrom the hydraulic system.

Important: Time the wheels for a full left to right andright to left time of approximately 5 seconds. Refer tothe Universal Kit Manual for additonal instructions onthis.

Adjust the pressure switch to the most responsive setting. Refer to theUniversal Kit Manual for instructions on this.

Bring the defective part and proof of purchase to your Raven Dealer.If your Dealer agrees with the warranty claim, the Dealer will send the part and proof of purchase to their distributor or to Raven Industries

Upon confirmation of the warranty claim, Raven Industries will, at our discretion, repair or replace the defective part and pay for return

freight.

This warranty covers all defects in workmanship or materials in your Raven Applied Technology Product under normal use, maintenance,

and service.

Raven Applied Technology Division products are covered by this warranty for 12 months after the date of purchase. This warranty coverage applies only to the original owner and is non-transferrable.
