Bakso

Bakso or baso is Indonesian meatball or meat paste made from beef surimi and is similar in texture to the Chinese beef ball, fish ball, or pork ball. It can be found all over Indonesia, from the travelling carts to restaurants.

Sate ayam

Sate ayam is chicken satay. It is basically bite-size pieces of chicken with a flavoured sauce or spice (like honey soy) on a kabab stick.

Rendang

Rendang is a traditional spicy beef dish. It is served at ceremonial occasions and to honour guests.

Gado-gado

Gado-gado is a salad of boiled or steamed vegetables and hard boiled eggs. It is usually served with a peanut sauce dressing.

Nasi goreng is fried rice and can also be stir fry rice. It was chosen by CNN to be in their Top 50 foods in 2011.

Mei Goreng

Mei Goreng is fried noodles. It is made with thin yellow noodles and is fried in cooking oil with spices.

Ayam Goreng

Ayam goreng is fried chicken. This is usually chicken drumsticks deep fried in coconut oil.

Nasi Putih

Nasi putih is steamed rice. It is named nasi putih because of its white colour.

Soto ayam

Soto ayam is chicken noodle soup. Usually it is very spicy.

Sambal

Sambal is a Indonesian sauce made out of chilli peppers. There are many extra ingrediants including garlic and ginger.
