TRINITY• God the Father

– The Righteousness, Holiness, Justice of God, the glory of God that is unapproachable by sinful man and fallen creation

• God the Son, the Word– The mediator, the intercessor, that part of God that set

aside His glory and took on human flesh becoming man, to pay mankind’s sentence for sin, making it possible for man to approach God in all His Holiness, Justice, and Righteousness and survive the encounter

• God the Holy Spirit – The Counselor, the Guide, the power of God, the

presence of God that indwells and works in us to make us like our Father who is in heaven in character. The energy and strength of God in our lives.

Trinity: The Triune God The expression of God to Man

While the word trinity does not appear in Scripture, the fact of the Trinity very clearly does.

The church father Tertullian (AD 155–220) was the first to use the word trinity in an effort to summarize the great amount of biblical truth about God and how He relates to His creation.

To say that God exists as a trinity does not mean there are three Gods, or that one God merely manifests himself as either Father, Son, or Holy Spirit on various occasions.

The Bible teaches:

– God the Father The Righteousness, Holiness, Justice of God, the glory of God that is unapproachable by sinful man and fallen creation

• the invisible Father, from whom all revelations proceeds;

• The heart of God

– God the Son, The mediator, the intercessor, that part of God that set aside His glory and took on human flesh becoming man, to pay mankind’s sentence for sin, making it possible for man to approach God in all His Holiness, Justice, and Righteousness and survive the encounter

• the Word of God, the visible expression of God toward man

• the Son, who mediates and objectively incarnates that revelation as an historical revelation;

– God the Holy Spirit The Counselor, the Guide, the power of God, the presence of God that indwells and works in us to make us like our Father who is in heaven in character. The energy and strength of God in our lives

• the Holy Spirit, who is divinely outpoured and subjectively applies that revelation to man.

• The power of God carrying out His will and executing His purposes in creation

03 TrinityThe Westminster Confession of Faith (1647) summarizes the doctrine by saying

“In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.”

Wayne Grudem defines the doctrine of the Trinity as follows:

“God eternally exists as three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and each person is fully God, and there is one God” (Grudem, Systematic Theology, p. 226).

Bruce Ware provides another helpful definition:

“The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that God’s whole and undivided essence belongs equally, eternally, simultaneously, and fully to each of the three distinct Persons of the Godhead.” (Ware, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, p. 41).

Louis Berkhof explained the doctrine of the Trinity under these headings:

There is in the Divine Being but one indivisible essence.

In this one Divine Being there are three Persons or individual subsistences: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The whole undivided essence of God belongs equally to each of the three persons.

The subsistence and operation of the three persons in the divine Being is marked by a certain definite order.

There are certain personal attributes by which the three persons are distinguished.

The Church confesses the Trinity to be a mystery beyond the comprehension of man.

The Trinity is one God who eternally exists as three distinct revelations — Father, Son (Word), and Spirit — who are each

fully and equally the expression of one God.

03 TrinityThe scripture does not use the term, “God in three persons”

“Person” as it refers to God means that each member of the Trinity thinks, acts, feels, speaks, and relates because they are persons and not impersonal forces.

They share and equally possess the divine attributes, such as eternality, omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence.

The doctrine of the Trinity seeks to hold all of the truth that God says about himself in Scripture without dismissing or diminishing any truth.

God’s dealing with Mankind

There is only One God.• the LORD is God; there is no other besides him (Deu

• there is no god beside me (Deut. 32:39).

• you alone are God (Ps 86:10).

• Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me (Isa. 43:10).

• I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God (Isa. 45:5).

• the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God (1Ti 1:17)

• there is one God (1 Tim. 2:5).

All other gods are demonic false gods.• the only true God (John 17:3).

Satan will try to counterfeit the Trinity

You cannot counterfeit something that does not exist.

The same forces are behind world powers and activity today

The Father is God.• God the Father (John 6:27).

• there is one God, the Father (1 Cor. 8:6).

The Son is God.• In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1, 14).

• Truly, truly, I [Jesus] say to you, before Abraham was, I am (John 8:58).

• Thomas answered him [Jesus], ‘My Lord and my God!’ (John 20:28).

• Christ who is God over all (Rom. 9:5).

• Jesus Christ. He is the true God (1 John 5:20).

The Holy Spirit is God.

It must be stressed that the Spirit is a “he” and not an “it.”

The Spirit is not an impersonal force, but rather a person who can be grieved (Eph. 4:30), resisted (Acts 7:51), and outraged (Heb. 10:29).

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 Co 3:17–18).

But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? . . . You have not lied to men but to God’ (Acts 5:3–4).

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Act 7:51 "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

The statement “God is love” in 1 John 4:8 only makes sense in light of the fact that God is a perfectly loving Trinitarian community.

1Jn 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

03 TrinityThis insight also helps illuminate what Jesus said in John 3:35, “The Father loves the Son,” and in John 14:31, “I love the Father.”

Joh 3:34-35 NKJV For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.

Joh 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

Additionally, the echoes of the Trinity in the early pages of Genesis also make sense:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:1–2).

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness’” (Gen. 1:26).

“Then the LORD God said, ‘Behold, the man has become like one of us” (Gen. 3:22).

“And the LORD said . . . ‘Come, let us . . .’” (Gen. 11:6–7).

Two favorite verses on the Trinity in the Old Testament apply directly to the incarnation of Jesus:

“And now the Lord GOD [Father] has sent me [Jesus], and his Spirit” (Isa. 48:16).

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD [Father] is upon me [Jesus], because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor” (Isa. 61:1).

Jesus began his public ministry by reading Isaiah 61:1, according to Luke 4:18-19Luk 4:18-19 NKJV "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS

UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO

The Trinity appears in the New Testament, including

the birth of Jesus

Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

the baptism of Jesus,

Mat 3:16-17 NKJV When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

and the Great Commission of Jesus

Mat 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

The doctrine of the trinity has been at the heart of much theological controversy.

The routine objection is that the doctrine of the Trinity supposedly sacrifices monotheism to “tritheism.”

This objection thrives on a misconception of divine personality in the image of ourselves as disparate, individual, distinct humans.

03 TrinityBut, God was not created in our image. We were created in the image, the pattern of God’s existence.

One of the reasons we suffer such misunderstanding is due to our relying on “models.”

Conceptual Models• Power, intellect, will? • Body, soul, and spirit? • Motion, light, heat? (The sun, for example.) • Three tones blending into one chord? • Single ray of light, of three primary colors? • Water: solid (ice), liquid, gas (steam)? • Infinite Series (mathematics)? • Hyperspace: Hilbert Space• Space - Matter - Time

None can exist without the others to define it.• Then there is Tom -

The manager, The engineer, The husband

Scientifically, light is comprised of the primary colors: red, yellow and blue.

Each color is separate, but when blended together, they make “white light” and function as one.

Each person of the Trinity is a separate and distinct but together they constitute the Trinity, the God head and function as one.

As one cannot be complete without the others, the others cannot be complete and function without any one of them.

These models sound good on the surface, but each has its own inherent problems that tend to confuse, rather than clarify, our understanding of our Triune God, the Trinity.

Nothing in creation can fully explain its Creator.

Again, we do not define God. He defines us…

These illustrations may be said to “darken counsel” with misleading analogies.

How do you communicate to an aborigine a TV set or a 747 jet?

Describe the color blue to a man who has never been able to see.

Any explanation will be inherently incomplete.

Even if we’re dealing solely with physical properties, we find our understanding limited by the boundaries of created physical reality itself.

When we talk of the Godhead we’re dealing with something “beyond”.

God can only be known by revelation — not by reason alone.

Divine revelation is a matter of God’s sovereign freedom.

We are only able to know and understand what He reveals to us.

There is no absurdity involved when it is contended that plurality can (and does) coexist with unity. [Adam + Eve = “One Flesh”]

Half of the father’s DNA merges with half of the mother,s DNA to form the whole new DNA chain of the child. The 2 become one.

The Trinity While there are definite distinctions between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit appearing throughout; the unified Trinity is also assumed throughout.

The Sh’ma: Deuteronomy 6:4-5Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God [Is] one Lord: 5 And

thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Quoted by our Lord

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

Also emphasized by God Himself in Exodus 20:3, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Cf. Verse 5.)

Isaiah 45:5 I [am] the Lord, and [there is] none else, [there is] no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that [there is] none beside me. I [am] the Lord, and [there is] none else.

The One, The Only…Deu 6:4-5 NKJV "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD

is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Hebrew words for “one”:

yahidh = “unique” ‘ehadh = does not preclude distinguishable entities

The Sh’ma, Deuteronomy 6:4-5, uses ‘ehadh.

Within the linguistic structure, the fact that unity, or “oneness” is expressed as 'ehadh does not exclude having plurality within it.

Adam and Eve are said to be one flesh.

Gen 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

The One, The Only…PluralityThe names for God are used for each of the persons in the Trinity in different places throughout the Bible.

The different names for God are used to reflect relationship, not specifically the person.

Father: without question.

Gen 1:1-3 NKJV In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, ….

Son: called God (John 1:10, the true God (1 John 5:20), the blessed God (Rom 9:5), the great God (Titus 2:13).

Joh 1:10-14 NKJV He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as

1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

Tit 2:11-13 NKJV For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

Holy Spirit: called God (Acts 5:3-9), and Lord (2 Cor 3:17).

Act 5:3-9 NKJV But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6 And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7 Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much." 9 Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."

2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

El = singular, a general designation for a god

03 TrinityAdding the suffix “-im” changes the singular into a plural word

Elohim = plural (as in cherib vs cherubim, seraoh vs seraphim, et al.).

Elohim is used 2700 times in the Bible is a plural noun, yet it is always used with a singular verb.

Adonai uses plural voweling also.

Every place where Elohim is written in the Bible it is a grammatical error -- the plural noun doesn’t agree with the singular verb.to which it is attached.

It is a subtle clue of “more than one within one.”

In many cases it is carried through to our English translation.

In Genesis 1:1, Elohim [God] is a plural noun but is used with a singular verb bara.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God [H430 Elohim] created [H1254 He created] the heavens and the earth.

Gen 1:26 Let us make man in our own image...

Gen 3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Paul, in the Greek, uses this grammatical solecism, [grammatical mistake in speech or writing; faux pas, gaffe]

1Th 3:11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.

This plurality cannot be associating God with the angels. Angels had no part with God in the creation.

This coupling of the plural noun with singular verb actions taken by the noun is not an error.

It is a revealing of the nature of God which is beyond the limits of the created universe we use as a reference point in our understanding and attempts at explanation,

The Three as OneThree primary names (Elohim, YHWH, Adonai) are each ascribed to each of the three persons we identify in the Triune God.

• Father — obvious.

• Son:

El, Isaiah 9:6; Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is

given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

YHWH, Psalm 68:18; Isaiah 6:1-3; 45:21

Psa 68:18-20 NKJV You have ascended on high, You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts among men, Even from the rebellious, That the LORD God might dwell there. 19 Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah 20 Our God is the God of

Elohim, Exodus 31:3Exo 31:3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God,

in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

In Isaiah 6 we have the famous vision of the throne of God, the scene in the “holy place of the holy ones” celebrated by the seraphim who veiled their faces before them: “Holy, Holy, Holy.”

Notice the place – the holy place of the holy ones

Notice the Seraphim veil their own face before the holy ones and declare Holy three times.

Is this a declaration of the absolute unique Holiness of God H1254 of the Godhead or both?

This is repeated in Revelation 4:8.

Rev 4:8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!"

In Isaiah 6:8 we see another hint of the plural: “Who shall go for us?”

Isa 6:8-10 NKJV Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." 9 And He said, "Go, and tell this people: 'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' 10 "Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed."

03 TrinityNotice that John attributes this passage to Christ (John 12:41), and Paul attributes it to the Holy Spirit (Acts 28:25).

Joh 12:36-41 NKJV While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them. 37 But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, 38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? Thus, all three persons are included.

God is Spirit

By the nature of God we mean what He actually is,

By His attributes we imply the excellencies that He has.

Jesus taught that God is a pure Spirit of infinite perfections. Holy: Unique, separate and pure

Joh 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Psa 147:5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

Isa 40:25-26 NKJV "To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.

Spirit is the highest form of being, and God is essentially and eternally "Spirit."

This means that He is not confined to the limitations of matter and does not possess a human body in any way visible to the physical eye.

His has an essence infinitely pure in degree, kind and quality; differing from, and immeasurably superior to, any created being.

He is of spiritual substance entirely, and not compounded, limited by body and soul as man.

God is not confined to a physical body

God cannot be understood or confined to some measurable form

We understand based on the limits of our physical bodies.

God is invisible

His being and essence (from our perspective) is invisible.

God became visible in human form in the person of Jesus Christ, but His essence is invisible

Being spirit, God exists without a permanent, confining physical body. Yet God has personality.

God is addressed as a Person and possesses all the attributes of personality such as life, intelligence with self-consciousness, self-determination

Exo 3:14-15 NKJV And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' " 15 Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'

God is not some impersonal force or power, but as Spirit is an intelligent and moral Being whom we can trust, love and praise.

– He is a personality with a personal spirit body, a personal soul, and a personal spirit.

– He has locality.

– He can be understood by the things that are made.

Rom 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

God has a body, a spirit body, like angels and other spirit beings. His body is of spirit substance instead of flesh and bones (Heb_1:3).

Heb 1:1-4 NKJV God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

We shall be like Him 1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not

yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

He dwells in a mansion and in a city located on a material planet called Heaven;

God is distinct from all His creatures in that He is underived and necessarily free and independent.

He exists in, and from, Himself. There is none to control Him. Joh 5:25-29 NKJV Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour

is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

As Spirit, He is not capable of the limitations and imperfections of our humanity.

There is no other like Him who is "glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders".

Perfection

Deu 32:4 NKJV He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

Psa 18:30 NKJV As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Mat 5:48 NKJV Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

If any imperfection is noted in creation or redemption it is sin and rebellion in free moral agents that have caused it.

God does not change His original plan of creation and redemption. He plans to redeem and restore all creation (except rebels) to perfection

Act 3:19-21 NKJV Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

God had to become fully a man to redeem fallen mankind – who He loved. God had to do it Himself because there was no man qualified or capable of paying mankind's debt to God over sin.

He who is fully God became fully man.

From our perspective God had a problem. His holiness and His justice could not ignore mankind’s fall into sin – the sin debt had to be paid and paid in full.

The payment for sin was and is death. Man had to die for his sin.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Each and every man dying would have died for his own sin.

God neither wanted to be separated from man nor did He want man to die in sin which would mean eternal separation.

A sinless man willing to die in payment for the sin of others had to be found - and none was available.

Here was God’s dilemma:

God loved man.

Man had sinned.

Man had to die for his sin.

Man couldn’t pay the sin debt for another since he himself was sinful.

Therefore, God – or that part of the Godhead scripture calls the 'Word' – that part we know as Jesus of Nazareth:

2] He had to live a fully human life as a man – growing, learning, dealing with trouble and temptations like all other men

Luk 2:40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

3] He had to live it without repeating the 1st Adam’s fall

Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

4] He had to die – wrongly from a personal standpoint – willingly offering himself as THE sacrifice for all other men and women’s sins. 1 John 2:1-2

He paid a price no other man or woman could pay. It was a price only a fully human - flesh, blood, and bone man could pay.

Since His purpose was to redeem mankind – and he was successful – it provided the way for we who could not pay the price without dying, to have our debt marked paid in full through faith - placing our confidence in Him – believing who He was and what He did.

We either:

trust Him, obey Him and follow His leading, availing for ourselves His payment for sin or

we reject Him and His actions on our behalf with the result that our debt for our sins remains upon ourselves - due and payable on demand.

Either the Lord Jesus Christ, God become man, pays our sin debt or we pay it ourselves

Jesus, the man, is really like me, physically, emotionally, spiritually.

He had to be in order for his death to be the adequate payment for my sin.

If He was not fully like me in the sense of his human nature, He would have been just another type of lamb, scapegoat or temporary ‘stand-in’ sin offering.

Am I like Jesus? No! He was and is God, God in flesh.

His great love caused Him to leave His exalted position and take on flesh, blood and bone.

Php 2:5-11 NKJV Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

03 TrinityHe succeeded where I and all before me and all who come after me failed.

There is no way that the 'created' can fully understand his 'creator', we cannot understand or describe God's eternal nature.

We are 'created' human - from human fathers.

He was 'manifest' - from His position as God.

The Creator - or at least that part of Him we call Jesus 'put on' flesh and became one of us.

Do not underestimate what this must have meant for Him - it is very nearly incomprehensible.

Is Jesus really like me? - Yes Am I like Jesus? - No

But because of what He did on my behalf, someday I will be like Him !!

1Jn 3:1-3 NKJV Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

God’s great love for us caused the that part of Himself that spoke and expressed His love – the ‘Word’ - to become fully man.

As a result, mankind can again enjoy unhindered relationship with God knowing the debt to sin has been paid in full by God who became man – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Once a person realizes the great action taken by God to redeem him and pay his personal debt, it will show in his life by a new and unquenchable love for God AND a bitter hate of sin.

The love of God in the redeemed will cause them want to live in a way that pleases and brings God joy. This will create a hate for sin.

Now that sin is no longer our problem – having been paid in full – we will ‘want to’ live to obey. Our ‘want to's’ will change.

03 TrinityWe will not ‘want to’ sin or give it any place in our lives.

We will ‘want to’ please God in all we do.

Obedience to God, the Holy Spirit’s leading and teaching, because we are in Christ, who is the God-man, our propitiation and intercessor will permit a personal and intimate relationship and fellowship with God the Father, which is why the God, the Word became flesh in the first place.

Only Begotten Son of God We use the term so often, but I think most Church members and most Christians think of the Only Begotten Son of God as His birth at Bethlehem.

God’s plan for taking on flesh and redeeming mankind began long before Adam sinned, possibly following and probably even before Lucifer introduced Sin into God’s creation.

In Acts 13 Paul has come all the way through Christ's earthly ministry, His Crucifixion and then in verse 30:

Acts 13:30-32 "But God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem who are his witnesses unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers."

That takes us back to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3 and even further back to Eden and God’s promise to the Serpent in the garden. Genesis 3:15

Gen 12:2-3 NKJV I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

03 TrinityGod’s promises were repeated to Isaac, and Jacob and the Twelve sons of Jacob.

And then the prophets beginning with Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, all spoke of His first coming.

Acts 13:33 "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that (now watch this) he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, `Thou are my Son, this day have I begotten thee.'"

Psalms 2:1-7 "WHY do the heathen (Gentiles) rage, and the people (Jews) imagine a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers (of Israel) take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying `Let us break their bands (the Godhead) asunder and cast their cords from us (we won't have You rule over us).'

He (God) that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them (the Jew and Gentile Nations) in derision.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath and vex them in his sore displeasure (tribulation).

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion (thousand-year Kingdom rule still future).

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, `Thou art my Son (Christ): this day have I begotten thee.'"

He's not talking about Bethlehem, He's talking about something far different.

Acts 13:34 "And as concerning that (Concerning what?: That thou art my Son: this day have I begotten thee) he raised him up from the dead (do you see that?), now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David."

There's no doubt the Scriptural account of the only begotten Son of God is the Resurrection!

03 TrinityWhen He rose from the dead He became the only begotten Son of God in power.

Romans 1:1-4 "PAUL, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures), Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh (Mary was of the seed of David, as was Joseph); And declared to be the Son of God Swith power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead."

It was the power of God that raised Him from the dead and that declares Him to be the only begotten Son of God.

This is why the Resurrection stands at the heart of the Gospel.

If you haven't got the power of the Resurrection as the basis of your Salvation, then you have none. It all rests on that! That God raised Jesus from the dead!

It's not enough to believe that Jesus was a good man.

It's not enough to believe that He died by Crucifixion.

We must take it to the whole fruition of the Gospel and that is: "He was raised from the dead."

Victorious over sin, hell, death, and everything.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Not only did Christ die in payment for the sins of the whole world, but He arose victorious over our enemy, and was able to break the bonds and shackles of sin and death.

Believe that Christ has done it all. Just simply believe that when Christ finished the work of the Cross, and rose victorious over the grave and death, there is nothing more we can do.

03 Trinity"Is it still necessary to beg the Lord for forgiveness?" No!

"Do I have to pray the sinner's prayer to be saved?" "God be merciful to me a sinner." No!

"All the mercy of God was poured out on that Cross." God has already forgiven all human beings of all sin.

It is paid for in full, and He doesn't expect someone to beg to be forgiven. He says you are forgiven - Believe It!

1Jn 2:1-61 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

The other word He uses in 2 Corinthians 5 is Reconciled.

2Co 5:14-21 NKJV For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has

03 Trinitycommitted to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The world has already been reconciled to God.

Never think that you have a license to sin just because you are forgiven.

God demands a separated walk of the believer.

The work of the Cross was enough for every human being from Adam to the end of time.

Every sin has been already paid for, and now the only thing that God asks is to believe it.

Hebrews 2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man."

The world today is trodding their payment for their sin underfoot.

That's what lost mankind is doing when they reject Salvation.

They are rejecting a pardon.

A pardon is a decree that sets you right back as if you had never broken the Law in the first place.

It's completely wiping the slate clean. And that is what God has done for us.

Jesus only spoke the words His Father gave Him to speak as He was empowered [motivated] by the Holy Spirit

As the Holy Spirit moves (vibrates, flows to and through the) voice box the words of God are formed and spoken as the God the Father determines.

God the Father – the mind (invisible) , the brain (visible)

Jesus – God the Son, the Word of God – the voice box, mouth of God the Father (visible - audible)

Holy Spirit – the breath, the wind (invisible)

We – the church - are the Body of Christ. (the functioning part – hands, feet, muscle, etc,)

(Mat 4:3 ESV) And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

(Mat 4:6 ESV) and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you,' and "'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

03 Trinity

THE HOLY SPIRIT Start here

The Holy Spirit is typically identified as the “Third Person of the Trinity” — the triune God.

God the Spirit is coequal in power and glory with God the Father and God the Son.

As we have seen, all three members of the Trinity are mentioned together in several books of the Bible e.g.:

2Co 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

The Holy Spirit is a coequal member of the Trinity; however, they each have different roles.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, for example, when Jesus obeyed the will of the Father concerning His crucifixion, God the Son placed Himself under God the Father.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

In like manner, the Holy Spirit’s role, in part, is to exalt Jesus Christ to bring glory to the Son.

Jesus said to His disciples, (John 16:14).

Joh 16:13-14 NKJV However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

The Holy Spirit is the active presence and power of God in a person’s life.

Eph 3:14-16 NKJV For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be

The word holy in Greek is hagios, which means “to set apart or separate.”

The words holy, hallow, saint and sanctify are all derived from this same root word.

It also carries the implication of purity, fit, complete, without flaw

The Holy Spirit is set apart from all other spirits … which means He is like no human spirit or demonic spirit.

1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

The heavenly Father is referred to as hallowed, set apart . . . which means like no other father.

Mat 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed [holy, set apart, and pure] be Your name.

Misconceptions abound about the Holy Spirit. Christian Scientists call Him “Divine Science,” Jehovah’s Witnesses say He is “an influence or power

exercised by the one God,” and Mormons speak of Him as an “ethereal substance diffused

through space.”

None of these major cults teach that He is the third person of the Trinity, the Triune God.

Likewise, many non-cult members make the same assumption that the Holy Spirit is merely a force or an influence.

When you know the truth about the person of the Holy Spirit, the Lord can use this truth to set you and others free.

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

03 TrinityAlthough the word Trinity is not used in the Bible, the three persons of the Trinity, each with equal authority, are clearly identified in the Great Commission.

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19).

The Father is a person and the Son is a person. The Spirit is also a person, related by the same name.

The Bible clearly teaches there is only one God.

Deu 6:4-5 NKJV "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Note that the Hebrew word for God is Elohim.

· “El” meaning strong and mighty God.

· “Im” is the plural ending.

The God of the Bible is one God consisting of a complex unity seen in . . .

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Gen 3:22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"

Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."

This complex unity is seen in the Hebrew word echad, which means “one.”

• two persons becoming one (echad) flesh

and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

• one (echad) cluster of grapes

Num 13:23 Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs.

Scientifically, light is comprised of the primary colors: red, yellow and blue.

Each color is separate, but when blended together, they make “white light” and function as one.

Each person of the Trinity is a separate and distinct but together they constitute the Trinity, the God head and function as one.

As one cannot be complete without the others, the others cannot be complete and function without any one of them.

The Holy Spirit is “a person” having a personality, a mind, will and emotions.

A force like gravity or electricity does not possess these attributes.

(Forces cannot think. Sentient beings think.)

(Forces cannot give gifts or teach truth. Sentient beings can)

(Forces cannot love, cannot grieve. Sentient beings love and grieve.)

• He knows the thoughts of God

1Co 2:11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

• The Holy Spirit has a mind.

Rom 8:27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

03 Trinity• He gives spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit has a will.

1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

• He teaches spiritual truth.

1Co 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

• The Holy Spirit has emotions.

— He loves.

Rom 15:30 Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me,

— He grieves

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption..

In the Greek Bible, neuter pronouns (like “it”) are sometimes used in reference to the word “spirit”.

Neuter pronouns are appropriate in these cases because the Greek word pneuma (spirit) is neuter in gender.

Many other passages describe the Holy Spirit with the masculine as “His” and “Himself.”

The Holy Spirit is a “he,” not an “it.”

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

At times the Spirit speaks with the personal pronouns “I” and “Me.”

Act 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

The Bible refers to the Spirit as “who” (a person), rather than “which” (a thing).

03 TrinityEph 1:13-14 NKJV In Him you also trusted, after you heard

the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

In the Old Testament, God’s presence was revealed to the nation Israel in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

Upon completion of the tabernacle, and later the temple, God’s presence resided in the Holy of Holies.

In the New Testament God fulfilled His promise of the New Covenant that He made long beforehand to His people.

Instead of manifesting Himself to the masses, He took up residence inside each believer

Today He is at home in each Christian’s heart. He accomplishes this by means of His Holy Spirit.

1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

The Old Testament presents the Holy Spirit as God.

In the Psalms, David ascribes to the Holy Spirit divine attributes such as all-knowing, all-powerful and all-present, totally unique to God.

Psa 139:7-10 NKJV Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

The New Testament presents the Holy Spirit as God. The apostle Peter said,

Act 5:3-4 NKJV But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it

03 Trinityremained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."

Most people “Seek” the Spirit because they want the gifts, but only when they need or want them.

We are told to be continually filled with the Spirit of God indicating there are times when we are not completely filled.

The question is Who has Who?

We receive and have all of the Holy Spirit when we are born again.

The problem arises because He does not always have all of us.

A flashlight with dead batteries when the lights go out is useless. A person who stumbles through life trying to function without power . . . supernatural power from God is just as useless.

God originally designed His Spirit to live in our human spirits, but once Adam and Eve declared their independence from God, sin came in and the Spirit went out. Adam and Eve became like flashlights with no batteries: there was no power on the inside to produce light on the outside.

Although each of us is born into spiritual darkness, God’s desire is for us to come into a relationship with Him and to be filled with His Spirit.

His filling provides the power to light your way through life.

Eph 5:8-10 NKJV For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Eph 5:17-18 NKJV Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

03 TrinityThe work of the Holy Spirit is laid out for us in John 14 and John 16 when Jesus promised He, the comforter would come and never leave us.

The summarized work of the Holy Spirit is to point us and mankind to Jesus as the Christ.

If we reject His work and witness, it is unforgiveable.

If we accept His work and witness, believing in Jesus the Lord, the Holy Spirit enables us to do for God in this life what we are unable to do on our own. But, only if we listen and obey His guidance, teaching and direction.

This is being filled by the Spirit – He directs

Being filled with the Spirit is ours in Christ. We do not need to seek Him we only need to Heed Him.

We can only bear the fruit of the Spirit if remain attached to the vine. Live in the Spirit, not by flesh.

How Does the Bible Describe the Holy Spirit?

The word spirit and the word ghost in Greek is pneuma, which means “wind or breath.”

— The wind is invisible, but you can see the effects of the wind.

— The wind is powerful because it causes movement and change.

The Spirit of God, with invisible power, moves a sinner to be like the Savior.

Joh 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

The English word ghost carries the connotation of being a spook, goblin or disembodied spirit of a deceased person wandering the earth … something to be feared.

03 TrinityWhen the King James Version of the Bible was translated in 1611, the word ghost simply meant the invisible part of a person.

For example, when facing death, Jesus cried

Luk 23:46 KJV And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

To avoid confusion, most modern translations choose to translate pneuma as “spirit” instead of “ghost.”

New Testament word pictures reveal Him to be gentle as a dove and mighty as the wind, but

the Holy Spirit is not merely a supernatural power or an invisible force.

He is a person,

His name is presented over 35 different ways in Scripture.

These names serve to define His position, His character and His work.

— He is the Spirit of God the Father.

Mat 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

— He is the Spirit of Jesus the Son.

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

— He is the Third Person of the Trinity.

Act 2:32-33 NKJV This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

— He is the Spirit of Holiness.

Rom 1:3-4 NKJV concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to

03 Trinitythe flesh, 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

— He is the Spirit of Grace.

Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

— He is the Spirit of Truth.

Joh 14:16-17 NKJV And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

— He adopts you into God’s family.

Rom 8:13-17 NKJV For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

— He teaches you all things.

Joh 14:23-28 NKJV Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me. 25 "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will

Joh 16:7-15 NKJV Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

Saints and SanctificationAuthentic Christians are called saints in the Bible.

Saint is the same Greek word as is translated Holy

God has determined that they are to be set apart from sin and set apart for God; pure and separate from all others.

Sanctification is the process of separating, cleansing, and purifying something. Sanctification is not a onetime act but is a continual process of change that takes place of over time.

03 Trinity2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for

you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

Rom 12:1-2 NKJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Rom 8:29 NKJV For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. \

Jas_4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Christians are in the process of sanctification … we are to conform to the image He has declared and intends for us to be.

It is the Spirit of God who provides the power for believers to be set apart for His primary purpose and to purify their behavior and attitudes conforming to the character of Christ.

Rom 8:28-30 NKJV And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

In times of weakness, the Holy Spirit intercedes on behalf of believers to help them do the will of God.

Rom 8:26-27 NKJV Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for

SELF-CENTERED OR SPIRIT-CONTROLLED?

The Three Parts of a Person1Th 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you

completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Every person is created with a body, a soul and a spirit — a tri-part person or trichotomy.

The body is your physical makeup (flesh, bones and blood).

Your soul is your behavioral makeup or personality (mind, will and emotions).

The human spirit is your innermost being (that which needs salvation, craves gratification of deep inner needs and, in the believer, houses the Holy Spirit).

When you enter into a personal relationship with Christ, God places His Holy Spirit with-in your human spirit.

Through the presence of His Spirit in you, God will meet your inner needs.

By refusing to rely on God’s provision of the Holy Spirit to meet your needs, you are choosing to rely on your own resources to meet your God-given needs for:

— Unconditional love

Rom 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom 8:14-16 NKJV For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you

Right Belief: Life isB not to be lived in my own strength but in submission to the Holy Spirit, giving Him complete control.

God designed your human spirit to be the home for His Holy Spirit. Adam and Eve were privileged to have this perfect oneness with God.

They had spiritual life because their human spirits were alive to God.

Warned by God that eating from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” would bring death, Adam and Eve disobeyed God

You and I are born in the likeness of Adam . . . dead to God’s Spirit until we stop running from His presence, from His gift of a new life in Christ Jesus.

Rom 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

From the nursery to the nursing home, we try to control our own world. We think that freedom to indulge our natural desires will bring ultimate fulfillment.

Yet God’s ways are not our ways. He has designed us differently.

When we indulge selfish desires, we close the door on freedom and come under bondage to sin.

Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Instead, you can choose to . . .

Self in Control of Your Soul Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be

transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Our natural instinct for responding to life’s problems is with self in control of the soul – a self sourced emotional response.

Emotions are merely responders to what the mind thinks.

Emotions only control us when we let them.

Negative fear filled thoughts produce negative emotions, which in turn produce negative actions.

Human Response of the Soul:

— Your mind records a real or perceived injustice and thinks angry thoughts.

2Co 10:4-6 NKJV For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

— Your emotions respond with angry feelings and you mind builds ‘vain imaginations’

2Co 4:17-18 NKJV For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

— Your body experiences physical tightness, release of negative chemicals and other physiological problems.

God’s Spirit in control of the Soul:Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be

transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

God’s will for responding to your problems is for His Spirit to control your soul.

Instead of responding in a sinful way, you allow the Spirit to change your thought patterns. As you begin to see life from God’s perspective and as you stand on His promises, the Holy Spirit transforms your life.

— The Spirit teaches your mind how to think about the offense.

Joh 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

— As your Counselor, He reminds you to pray for those who persecute you.

who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

— The Spirit directs your will toward the right choice.

Joh 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

— The Spirit controls your emotions.

Rom 5:3-5 NKJV And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

As your Comforter, He draws out loving compassion toward the unjust person who is spiritually needy.

He convicts you to pray whether you feel like it or not. It is an act of obedience and submission to God, not yielding to emotion.

— Your body is at peace, relaxed and free of many debilitating physiological side effects of mental stress.

Rom 8:5-6 NKJV For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

The Makeup of a PersonIn certain places, the Bible refers to the “spirit, soul and body” to indicate the whole person, while in other places the terms body and spirit are used.

The use of all three terms spirit, soul and body used together indicates a clear distinction between soul and spirit.

Job_7:11 "Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Isa_26:9 With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Isa_42:1 "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

Mat_12:18 "BEHOLD! MY SERVANT WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN, MY BELOVED IN WHOM MY SOUL IS WELL PLEASED! I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT UPON HIM, AND HE WILL DECLARE JUSTICE TO THE GENTILES.

Because the words soul and spirit are presented in different ways, the context must determine the way to interpret the makeup of a person.

The Body (soma in Greek) is the material part of a person that constitutes the physical anatomy (flesh, bones and blood).

· The Soul (psuche in Greek) is the immaterial, rational part of a person that produces behavior through the mind, will and emotions.

Act 15:24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, "You must be circumcised and keep the law" — to whom we gave no such commandment —

Eph 6:5-7 KJV Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

— emotions (feelings, affections)

1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

· The Spirit (pneuma in Greek) refers to the immaterial, innermost part of a person. The human spirit . . .

1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Joh 4:23-24 KJV But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

When Jesus walked the earth, he was one man,

dwelling in one place, Close to only one small group of people at any given time.

life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

The Holy Spirit is God not only with us but God IN us,each of us, all of us, all at the same moment, empowering, teaching, leading and guiding

every single one of us.

Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Ro 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our Spirit, that we are the children of God:

Ro 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: • but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us

We are to be “led by the Spirit of God.” (Rom 8:14)

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Gal 5:25).

Do not quench the Spirit. (1 Ths 5:19)

The Holy Spirit is not an added ingredient, an additional component in our lives.

He is to fill us, to be our leader, to be the power by which we live.

Jesus asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit of God to indwell His people and to empower us in our walk and in our work for Christ.

It’s the Holy Spirit who lives the life of Christ through us

It’s the Holy Spirit who achieves the work of Christ through us.

Ask God daily to fill you with Himself through His Spirit, to have mastery over your actions and reactions, and to control and

empower you in your life of service.

The self same person of God – the Holy Spirit – who energized creation at the beginning of time, the same person of God who raised Jesus from the dead, is dwelling in us !!!

What Is the Holy Spirit’s Role in the Believer Today?

1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

At the moment of salvation you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The Greek word baptisma was used to mean immersing a person or thing into a new environment or into a union with something in order to alter its condition.

When you are saved, you are baptized into a life-changing union with the Lord Jesus Christ … taken out of your old condition and placed into a new condition.

Your identity is changed from being a lost sinner with a sin nature to being a justified saint with a divine nature.

Every believer is spiritually baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit.

Joh 3:5-6 NKJV Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Act_2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Rom_6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

Gal_3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

He buries your former life, washes your sins away and raises you to walk in a new life.

Water baptism follows later as a symbolic picture and testimony to others that your sins are washed away.

The Holy Spirit abides within your human spirit to bring about God’s purposes in your life. Envision the battery of a flashlight and the power and light it produces. In a similar way, imagine the

Refusing God’s Provision When you enter into a personal relationship with Christ, God places His Holy Spirit within your human spirit. Through the presence of His Spirit in you, God will meet your inner needs.

By refusing to rely on God’s provision of the Holy Spirit to meet your needs, you are choosing to rely on your own resources to meet your God-given needs for . . .

· Unconditional love

Rom 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

· Significance

Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

2Co 1:21-22 NKJV Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

“What is blaspheming the Holy Spirit?” Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit — the only unpardonable sin — is a complete and total hardening of the heart, resulting in an unwillingness to yield to the convicting work of the Holy Spirit.

One of the major roles of the Holy Spirit is to convict unbelievers of their sins and their need for the Savior.

03 TrinityIn Mark 3, the teachers of the law refused to believe that the miracles of Jesus were from God and instead attributed them to Satan.

While God certainly has the power to forgive this sin, these unbelievers completely and repeatedly rejected their need for forgiveness and reconciliation to God.

You cannot have true faith in Christ without recieving the Spirit of Christ.

The Scripture explains that those who are Christians have all three persons of the Trinity living within them.

The apostle Paul uses the word filling to mean “under the influence of” (in a positive sense) much as you would speak about someone who is intoxicated as being “under the influence of” alcohol.

Eph 5:15-21 NKJV See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

The term be filled is a continuous action verb, literally meaning continue to be filled.

If you were under the influence of wine, your walk … your talk . . . your thoughts would be affected.

In the same way, to be “filled with the Spirit” is to yield every part of your life to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

A person who stumbles through life trying to function without the supernatural power from God is useless.

God originally designed His Spirit to live in our human spirits, but once Adam and Eve declared their independence from God, sin came in and the Spirit went out.

Although each of us is physically born into spiritual darkness, God’s desire is for us to come into a relationship with Him and to be filled with His Spirit. His filling provides the power to light your way through life.

Every authentic Christian is sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a guarantee, a promise from God that we will be physically redeemed in heaven.

To stay continually filled with the Holy Spirit

Submit to the authority of Jesus Christ.

· Recognize God’s claim on your life.· Realize God’s plan is to conform you to the image of Christ.· Relinquish your right to be in control of your life.

Mat 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Pray for conviction of sin.

· Acknowledge your natural inclination to sin.· Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of your specific sins.· Agree with God about your need to change.

Psa 139:23-24 NKJV Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Identify with Christ’s death on the cross.

· See Jesus as living His life in you.· See yourself as dead to the power of sin.· See the Holy Spirit as your power to overcome sin.

Rom 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Recognize the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to teach you and to guide you.

· Listen with your heart.

The sap inside the vine carries life-giving nutrients to the branches, enabling them to bear grapes.

In a similar way, the Holy Spirit inside a Christian is a life-giving source that enables a believer to bear spiritual fruit … qualities that are evidenced both inwardly and outwardly.

Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

Gal 5:22-23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Evidence of Being Filled with the Spirit· Am I seeking the highest and best for others or seeking to

serve my own needs? — Love

· Am I living with gladness over what I have or fretting over what I don’t have? — Joy

· Am I resting in the strength and security of God or worrying about my circumstances? — Peace

· Am I enduring difficult trials calmly or complaining and becoming bitter? — Patience

· Am I exhibiting a benevolent heart by helping others or resenting having to meet the needs of others? — Kindness

· Am I displaying godly character with purity of heart or adopting the world’s standards of morality? — Goodness

· Am I trusting God in the midst of suffering and sorrow or doubting His perfect and persistent love? — Faithfulness

harsh and short-tempered? — Gentleness

· Am I rising to God’s call to do what is right in His sight or giving in to my feelings and selfish desires? — Self-Control

Gifts of the Spirit

Understanding your spiritual gifts and using them to benefit the body of Christ are vital for spiritual growth and maturity.

Spiritual gifts are . . .

· Supernatural abilities that the Holy Spirit bestows upon each believer at the time of salvation for the purpose of strengthening the church (the “body of Christ”)

· Unearned, undeserved empowerment from the Spirit of God

· An opportunity for the Lord to accomplish His personalized plan and purpose for your life

· A means through which you express God’s love to others

1Co 12:4-6 NKJV There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

A spiritual gift is given to every believer. If you are an authentic Christian, you have been given at least one spiritual gift, even if you don’t know what that gift is.

1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

God doesn’t give everyone the same gift.

1Co 12:8-10 NKJV for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

— Giving — a supernatural ability to entrust assets where they are most needed

— Leadership — a supernatural ability to administrate, organize and coordinate efforts

— Mercy — a supernatural ability to reach out with active compassion to comfort others

— Knowledge — a supernatural revelation

— Faith — a supernatural ability to believe God will provide

— Healing — a supernatural ability to believe God will cure human illness

— Miraculous powers — a supernatural ability to perform feats outside the laws of nature

— Prophecy — a supernatural ability to proclaim or reveal what is hidden

— Discernment — a supernatural ability to distinguish between truth and error, as well as good and evil spirits

— Tongues — a supernatural ability to speak in a language that the speaker has never learned

— Interpretation of tongues — a supernatural ability to understand and interpret messages in tongues

The gift we receive as a believer in Jesus as Christ is chosen by the gift giver, the Spirit of God.

1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

God is the One who places you and prepares you for a specific place of service in the body of Christ.

God uses the analogy of the physical body to explain how spiritual gifts function, and He makes it clear that if He made you a “hand” in the body of Christ, you should not try to be a “foot.”

In the same way that a hand remains a hand in the physical body, so spiritual gifts do not change.

1Co 12:12-31 NKJV For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not

And yet I show you a more excellent way.

Each Gift in the Body of Christ plays a vital role. Gifts that seem less honorable are still necessary and indispensable to the functioning of the whole body.

Seek to serve the Lord where He places you with the gift you have been blessed to receive. That is the best gift for you in fulfilling your place in His Body.

Pro 18:15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Pro 19:20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.

03 TrinityThe Spiritual gifts we receive mean nothing if they are not administered with a heart of love without lust or envy.

1Co 13:1-3 NKJV Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

To know and reveal your gift, serve God in the Body where you are.

See a need? Meet that need!

God will direct you to the task, the place, the ministry where His gift to you will be revealed and most beneficial.

Establish God-given priorities in your life. Once you have discovered it, make it your priority to serve Him in that way. The place where you serve must be in line with your spiritual gifts and God’s truth.

1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Experience the joy of being used by God:

Act 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Build up the church, [real eternal Body building]

Eph 4:11-16 NKJV And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but,

03 Trinityspeaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Discerning Your Spiritual Gifts

Pro 18:15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

· Make sure you have come into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

· Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead you to the truth about your personal spiritual gift(s).

· With a humble heart, desire only the gift(s) that the Spirit has given you to serve others. Don’t covet the gift of another.

· Make a list of all the gifts and mark off those that you do not enjoy.

· Think about the times when you as a Christian knew God successfully used you to help others. Evaluate those successes in light of spiritual gifts.

· Be aware of God’s confirmation through your own joy and fulfillment when helping others.

· Ask one or more mature Christians who know you well for their observations regarding your spiritual strengths and giftedness.

Prov 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

CAUSES FOR HINDERING THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRITOne of the symbols used in the Bible to represent the unseen power of the Holy Spirit is the wind.

Conscientious pilots check the wind condition to determine the feasibility of flying,

03 TrinityIn the same way, some people ignore the Spirit’s call and conviction. Though “the Wind” speaks, they resist Him and refuse to obey.

Joh 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

Unbelievers demonstrate their resistance to the Holy Spirit

— by ignoring their God-given conscience

Rom 1:18-20 NKJV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

— by rejecting the claims of the Lord Jesus Christ


— by holding to a form of religion without having a relationship with Christ

Act 7:51 "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

2Ti 3:1-5 NKJV But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

03 TrinityIn Scripture, another symbol for the Holy Spirit is fire . . . representing His judgment and purifying presence.

Believers hinder the work of the Spirit in their lives . . .

— by refusing to act or speak as the Holy Spirit leads

— by resenting circumstances that God allows to come into their lives

1Th 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.

Another symbol in Scripture for the Holy Spirit is a seal . . . indicating ownership, security and a completed action. Believers bring sorrow to the heart of the Holy Spirit . . .

— by doubting and distrusting God’s love and promises

— by refusing to submit completely to God

— by neglecting personal time with God through His Word

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit

The self same person of God – the Holy Spirit – who energized creation at the beginning of time, the same person of God who raised Jesus from the dead, is dwelling in us !!!

Romans 8

Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not

the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Ro 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our Spirit, that we are the children of God:

Romans 826 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: • but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us

with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

• because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
